The Bindings of FateNews, Open Development, Scion, Scion: Hero
More right than you know, Loki Lie-Smith. From Loki: Agent of Asgard.
Greetings, true believers! It’s been a while, I know. But I’m Fated to do this post, so here we are. Let me start with another quote from our inspirational material, The Wicked + The Divine:
“You are of the Pantheon. You will be loved. You will be hated. You will be brilliant.”
Love. Hate. Brilliance. Are these destinies, as we think of them in the Greco-Norse conception of fate? Preordained events? Or are they a declarative statement, instead saying that a person’s predilection and actions leads them inexorably to an end? Fate is defined by drama and tragedy, which makes it fond of statements like, “You live by the Sword, you die by the Sword.”
Fate isn’t something that “applies” to a Scion or a god, at least not truly. A Scion’s actions ripple throughout the world, causing people to become bound to her destiny. Those ripples of her actions are Fate at work. These ripples are referred to as Fatebindings, and they’re why Gods refrain from overt action, because doing ...8 COMMENTS
Awakening 2e Errata [Mage: The Awakening]Mage: The Awakening
Hello, faithful readers!
We are now done with the errata pass on Mage: The Awakening second edition. The book now needs to be corrected, relaid-out, and sent to a professional indexer before the print on demand option goes live on DriveThru.
While the majority of errata were typos, visual glitches, and the like, the changes do include some mechanical changes. So as to not leave Mage troupes hanging, I’ve summarized those in a document linked to here.
Awakening 2e Mechanical Errata.
Thanks, and I’ll see any of you coming to GenCon at the con!

Open Dev: Closing the Review Window for Hunter: The Vigil 2E SubmissionsHunter: The Vigil, Open Development
Hunter: The Vigil logo Hey folks, long time no see! First, thanks so much for sending in your submissions and following my instructions. I wanted give you a short update today to let you know where we’re at, and what my plans are over the next couple of weeks.
Closing Submissions for Review – Submissions sent to us after July 31, 2016 will not be considered for the core rulebook. While Open Submissions for Onyx Path itself will not close, I need to make this a cut off date so I can formalize the team for the core rulebook. Once again: Open Submission will not close; this is my internal cut off date, so if you planned subbing do so now. I will and do plan on hiring and training up new writers, but I have to balance open submissions against our existing cabal of freelance writers so I can deliver the core rule book per the schedule I’m firming up. There may be other opportunities in the future for the line, but right now my primary concern is the ...7 COMMENTS
Now Available: Curse of the Blue Nile, and V20/W20 Starter Bundles!Mummy: The Curse, Sales, Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse
Now available in ebook and print formats from DriveThruRPG: Mummy: The Curse’s Curse of the Blue Nile
What is the Blue Nile?
An image of rare beauty and terror, fashioned of the unbound portion of an angry, deathless soul.
A very special child who violates the natural laws of the living and the dead alike.
An ancient sculpture that opens pathways of glory to anyone who dares possess it.
An instrument of profound sound and meaning, drawing the ever-hungry to its prescient wave.
To Know the Nile, Know its Curse
Welcome to the first anthology of original fiction set in the world of Mummy. With Curse of the Blue Nile, the veil draws back to reveal a host of dark glimpses into the power of a single relic… and of the lengths to which the Deathless of lost Irem will go to secure it.
Each tale is a novella, spooling out the unique nature of the Blue Nile within its encapsulated view of the world’s setting, and each story touches on a different one of the five Arisen guilds: The Alchemists, Laborers, Masons, Priests, and Scribes. Five dark turns at the wheel, helmed by the ...1 COMMENT
A Bit o’ Beckett & a Gram of Gen Con [Monday Meeting Notes]Monday Meeting, News
Ash by Ken Meyer Jr for Beckett’s Jyhad Diary
“Beckett’s Jyhad Diary is the update for every single lingering plot thread of 20 years.”
A very nice quote, and we’re glad that our V20 community are enjoying the book in the way we intended. Beckett’s Jyhad Diary was the project we earmarked as the book that brought forward into V20 as many of the storylines from previous editions as could be fit into the project. We knew, originally, that we couldn’t cover everything just because of space considerations, but then we thought: how about using Kickstarter to enlarge the scope of what we could cover like we did for CofD Dark Eras?
Developers Matthew Dawkins and Neall Reamonn Price (who have both been incredible during this Kickstarter) first created a complete and compelling set of chapters that hold together as a fascinating narrative of the travels, trials, and tribulations of our Gangrel diarist Beckett, and then compiled a list of additional storylines that could be added depending on how backers would vote.
So far, we have added the first triad of three extra chapters, ...46 COMMENTS

The Pain from an Old Wound [Vampire: the Masquerade]Open Development, Vampire: The Masquerade
Don Draper: Nostalgia – it’s delicate, but potent. Teddy told me that in Greek, “nostalgia” literally means “the pain from an old wound.” It’s a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone.
Beckett: If I see so much as a flickering shadow, I’ll be moving to rip your arms off.
Talley: I’ll be on my best behavior. Consider this an exploratory expedition into the heart of darkness. The horror. The horror!
Melinda Galbraith, Beckett’s Jyhad Diary, by Ken Meyer Jr.
The Beckett’s Jyhad Diary Kickstarter only has nine days left on the clock. As we pass some stretch goals and reach others, Neall and I reflect on the work we – and the excellent crew of writers and artists – put into this book. It’s with some pride we realise how well-received the backers are finding the texts I’ve been uploading for preview (you can view them on the Kickstarter page). We knew this book would be popular, just by dint of its subject matter. We strived to ensure all the content would be useable in chronicles, exciting to read, ...42 COMMENTS
To Be Continued…[Monday Meeting Notes]Monday Meeting, News
Hesha In Cairo from Beckett’s Jyhad Diary illustrated by Mark Kelley.
Nothing ominous, it’s just that Eddy and I were talking during our lunch meeting about serials and one-shots and whether Tabletop RPGs are something that also needs to deal with the changing way we are consuming our entertainment.
What I mean is, we have television moving from the classic episodic (info is self-contained and it is assumed that folks will miss episodes) way of structuring the shows to a serial (info exists across episodes that matters to the current episode) way of presenting the shows. Our thinking is that this shift in storytelling technique started with viewers being able to tape episodes on VHS and is now really being assumed to be status-quo with how shows are being written to take advantage of how we binge watch via streaming.
We have films being written with the assumption that the audience knows info not in the film about characters and their previous history, like Captain America: Civil War and the newest Star Wars movie. Because, who doesn’t know about Han and Leia, or what ...42 COMMENTS
