Changing Breeds Kickstarter Status

The Deluxe W20 Changing Breeds Kickstarter is going strong. It’s got three days to go, and so far people have blitzed through our stretch goals. So, for those of you on the fence, I thought I’d run through what the current state of the book looks like:

• A 10,000 word section on the Hengeyokai and a 10,000 word section on the Ahadi included as an extra chapter in the book.

• An 8-page colour introductory comic, written by myself and illustrated by John Bridges.

• Extra words in the Camazotz section, covering their main populations around the world and the events that drove them to extinction around the world.

• A section on the Khara, the “extinct” were-sabretooths, providing similar information to the Changing Breeds write-ups in W20.

We’re also putting out a Changing Breeds fiction anthology, which all backers receiving a PDF get a free copy of. So far, we’ve funded two stories for the anthology but it’s going to grow and grow.

Announced stretch goals include extra words for the Grondr, and a Lost Breeds writeup for the Okuma werebears, along with extra stories in the anthology.

The people who’ve pledged to the Kickstarter have crammed the book full of extra material that we wouldn’t have had a chance to include otherwise. Please check it out.

We managed to churn about 114 000$ So pretty much all the KS-rewards and then some got added in.

It will also mean that some parts will have to be written & edited anew pushing the originally planned release date forward. Though I’m sure most of don’t mind waiting a bit longer when it means a lot more content and write up’s for breeds which previously had none.

I’d rather wait longer so it can be well-researched, well-written, and well-edited, than expect the authors to rush it. The cool thing about WoD20 is that they don’t have to do _anything_ on a supplement treadmill anymore, so they can take as long as we let them to create high-quality books.

I’d love to know how many words (or pages?) we’re talking about for the other additions (Camazotz, Khara, Grondr, Okuma, Apis, Ratkin Bards, turtle Mokole, Australia).

Somewhere between fifteen and twenty thousand words for the extra content over and above the Ahadi and Hengeyokai, or about 40,000 extra words total.

The book as it stands (as linked on the Kickstarter, for example) is over 120,000 words. The Kickstarter has added almost another third to the length of the book.

Considering the amount of pages that have to be rewritten and edited I’m assuming that we won’t be seeing our books before early December?

If it means we get more on lost breeds. I’m willing to wait. Heck. I’ve been waiting a very long time for cWOD to make a meaningful come back, I can wait a few months for this. 🙂

Hi Stew! I was wondering if you planned on giving us a peak at the Umbra book outlines when it’s ready? Just curious. 🙂
