Fhtagn! [Monday Meeting Notes]

Fhatgn. In Cthulhu-speak it means sleeping or dreaming.

Which ties into our Scion: Dragon dragons and their shared memories in a kind of parallel way, creating a thematic connection to Scion: Masks of the Mythos with but a word.

Another word that ties them together is “ending”, which their shared Kickstarter is, in a few days.

It has been a delightful run with this KS, and thanks to all of our backers who have made it so with pledges and commentary. We had to devise a few extra Stretch Goal projects to cover the distance – and here we are: ready to bring both books into the home stretch!

So, if you’ve been waiting – now’s the time to jump onboard! If you’ve backed, please talk up this KS and “like” the various social media posts and ads in order to spread the word. We have some super late-stage Stretch Goals to achieve!

We’ve just sent the set-up page for our next crowd-funding project over to approvals at Paradox. That one is Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition’s Victorian Age deluxe edition. Very importantly, when this one goes live, don’t look for it on Kickstarter!

As I’ve been mentioning these last months, we’re looking to try out new ways to push and deliver our projects, and so we’re going to try out how Indiegogo works as a crowd-funding site!

We’ve heard good things, and that some of the set-up is a lot easier to use, so fingers crossed and here’s hoping we all get the hang of it fast and without too much confusion – creators and backers together!

More news on that as things solidify and both Paradox and Indiegogo approve the set-up, but we’ll go live as quickly as we can! Keep an eye out for the date!

Yes, But, Tell Us About the Meeting Besides Con Talk:

There’s not a ton of it actually.

Related to the Gehenna Games Virtual Horror Con, our sales partners at IPR are running a sale starting Thursday and while the con is running: a mix of our books and dice will be discounted. The link won’t be active until Thursday, so we’ll share it then.

Also we talked about some PDF bundle deals on DTRPG over the weekend of the convention.

A surprising bit of news on the sales front!

RedBubble is running a sale until February 17th that’s 20% site-wide! They almost never run a multi-day sale that I hear about in time to include in the blog. Use this code to get the discount before it expires: 3DAYSALE

Heirs To the Shogunate art by Gong Studios

We talked about marketing and demographics. A lot. Our survey, etc,

We continue to examine how best to talk. How do we talk to all of you loyal readers, and how do we talk to other gamers out there? Who is where and can we talk with them there? Can we make it easy for them to come here?

We think we do a pretty good job at providing venues for that communication: this blog, social media, all of our actual plays and media like the Onyx Pathcast and our Twitch and YouTube channels. At least to our current community.

But we’re always reviewing and looking at new ways to get new folks into our community, to enable them to enjoy all the terrors and delights we have in store for those who explore our:

Many Worlds, One Path!

Virtual TableTop!

Two Virtual Tabletop adventures: the Gauntlet of Spiragos and the Dagger of Spiragos for Scarred Lands on Astral TableTop and DriveThruRPG!

Scars of the Divine War, which ended less than 200 years ago, have still not healed. One such scar is the Chasm of Flies, a rent in the earth created when the titan Spiragos the Ambusher was smote down by one of the young gods, Vangal the Ravager. Now, the Chasm is inhabited by spider-eye goblins and their spider allies, but it is also thought to be the resting place of powerful artifacts from that elder age.

Astral TableTop is the easiest way to play any tabletop RPG online, free. Astral already supports popular systems like D&D and Pathfinder, and Astral can support virtually any tabletop roleplaying game. Get started quickly with built-in support for most popular game systems. Whether you’re brand new to TTRPGs or a veteran tabletop gamer, Astral‘s ease-of-use and built in automation is designed to streamline gameplay.

Astral is browser-based and uses the latest technology to streamline your storytelling experience. Connect with your party online and run your campaigns however you like. Astral offers tools optimized for phone, tablet, and desktop devices, no installation required.

Build epic battlemaps using Astral‘s enormous collection of scenery, props, and tokens or upload your own. Pro users gain access to over 12,000+ assets and fresh new packs every month. Add weather, visual effects, triggers, and so much more with easy-to-use tools

Build your own adventure, or choose from pre-generated game kits like Gauntlet of Spiragos and Dagger of Spiragos. Create character sheets, craft maps, or just jump right in to connect with your friends and start your adventures!

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!

Today is President’s Day and a Monday holiday here in the US. It’s also ENIAC day in my hometown of Philadelphia, PA to celebrate the “birth” of the first general-purpose electronic computer in 1946. Which, you know, eventually totally changes the world and all of our lives. The computer, not all the Presidents.

May I ask if the Victoria mage Indiegogo manuscript campaign will have manuscript previews?

    1. Ian A. A. Watson Avatar
      Ian A. A. Watson

The manuscript preview process was not required by or specific to Kickstarter. It’s part of Onyx Path’s crowdfunding process. That hasn’t changed with the move to Indiegogo.

One thing I’ve heard about is that IndieGoGo takes a smaller percentage of the money you raise. From a business perspective, they’re a better choice if you’re looking to maximize your profits.

Makes sense, because I do wonder how rising shipping costs have affected these kickstarters. I know VTM has sizable European auidence and I imagine lot OPP’s lines are in same boat.

There are always going to be trade-offs and pros and cons to any platform. As we roll through this M20 Victorian Age campaign, I’m sure we’ll find even more. In fact, I think next week’s MMN blog will run through a bunch of the ones we’re aware of so far, and try and let folks know what to expect. End of the day, we’re less concerned with maximizing profits compared to maximizing the crowd-sourcing experience – both for our backers and for our team – and are trying this because it’s another way for us to provide a way for you folks to support your favorite game lines and company. 🙂

As Rich says above (emphasis mine):

As I’ve been mentioning these last months, we’re looking to try out new ways to push and deliver our projects, and so we’re going to try out how Indiegogo works as a crowd-funding site!

I’m not sure if this is a thing that’s possible, but I’d be interested in a standard print run of the CofD lines that never got one, namely VtR 2e, WtF 2e, MtAw 2e and, (I think) PtC 2e. Is that something that could be tacked on as a separate tier in another kickstarter campaign? Or is it cost prohibitive?

    1. richt Avatar
      richt

It’s really of such a cost that a traditional print run of even one book, nevermind several, would take a KS to handle it. It’s not impossible, but we have a long list of new games that could really use the marketing oomph that a crowd-funded project garners. Thanks!
