Pope Unseated Due to Vampire Plot: Inquisition Called In

I was going to use another full-page piece of art from The Hunters Hunted II as the header art for this post, but then the Pope resigned, and how often can you use this Palpatine-looking photo on your blog? As for the title, well it’s pretty interesting that this Pope news is breaking just as we’ve added The Inquisition and Project Twilight write-ups to The Hunters Hunted II because of passing Stretch Goals on it’s Deluxe version Kickstarter- and are heading towards adding The Arcanum into the book as well. Coincidence?! I think not!

We’ve never used a Kickstarter to add actual content to the book being KS’d before, so it’s been a pretty cool experiment. You can check it out here because we still have a week to go:  http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/deluxe-hunters-hunted-ii

Also, here’s an article with an interview with Justin Achilli with one of our German friends: http://obskures.de/2013/world-of-darkness-deluxe-hunters-hunted-ii-an-interview-with-justin-achilli

Eddy and I talked a fair bit about the economics of RPG production and how “sharpening the saw”, getting your internal processes in line, doesn’t directly affect how well a project sells, but is so very important in making sure you can produce those projects. Certainly, Onyx Path is in need of, and is currently doing, just that. Eddy’s favorite example is how easy it was to get an answer to a question about something, or to brain-storm ideas, when you could just pop down the hall in the old WW days. Now we need to use Skype, or Goggle Hangouts, and schedule a meeting that works for everyone. But we can work with folks all over the world. So that’s the trade-off.

Then my computer crashed, for no particular reason except it heated up. Finished up on the phone discussing who could write the extra Hunters Hunted II content that has been added on by the KS Stretch Goals, with Eddy stepping in to Develop that stuff so Justin can concentrate on the other stuff.

And stuff:

God Machine Chronicle (nWoD) is in Layout and some art is being CCP Approved.

Strix Chronicle Fiction Anthology (VtR) Strix is into Editing.

- Mummy the Curse - Gathering all the Backers’ Credits names from the Surveys so Mike can add them to the book. CAS has culled the various bits of errata, and Mike has already changed them. Working the Mummy schedule still.

- Exalted 3rd Edition:  First art sketches coming in. Our intention is to have some smashing new pieces ready for the EX3 Kickstarter in February. The DEVs are currently head down and deep into the Charms section. Lots of stuff on the Reddit AMA about EX3.

- V20 Hunters Hunted 2 is in for CCP Approval. Obviously, we’ll need to run all the extra sections past CCP after they’re written and laid out as well. The Kickstarter for the Deluxe edition has already done wonderfully well, and we’re excited to see what additional Stretch Goals will be revealed (see above for how you can determine the added material for the book).

- V20 Anarchs Unbound is almost done in post writing Development. You can check out Unlife in the Anarch Domains here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ymvzia_aSfCtl501GyJE1JH39VMBkW2Xs-xsOuyW1kA/edit

- Deluxe Werewolf 20th Anniversary Edition  Kickstarter  Mike Lee is half-way through his novel. W20 to the indexer. The Storyteller Screen and Wallpaper are up for CCP approval. Bill is preparing the W20 Anthology outline and looking for prospective writers.  Putting the W20 KS Stretch Goal projects into the schedule. The Skinner is ready for Editing.

-Deluxe Mage the Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition has been confirmed for September-ish 2013 and Phil Brucato has started assigning writers and has started writing his part. Talking to a guy about the art.

- W20 Changing Breeds is also in Art Direction and Editing.

- W20 Rage Across the World is in Art Direction.

- Guildhalls of the Deathless (MtC) is being written.

- Conventionbook: Progenitors (cMtA) is done in Editing, art is going to CCP for approval.

- Mage Translation Guide has begun being written, we have an Editor ready.

- W20 Book of the Wyrm is being written and red-lined. Check out the W20 blog notes: http://whitewolfblogs.com/w20/

Reason for Drinking: Early Valentine’s Day dinner (the only one we could schedule) with my beautiful wife is at a place with both a Pimm’s Cup and a Capt. Morgan’s Old Fashioned on the menu.

Awesome stuff! Really pumped about getting W20 and Mummy physical copies. Pretty stoked for the EX3 Kickstarter too.

Back in December I asked about how to apply to OPP as a writer, and you made mention that the applications aren’t up on the website and to e-mail you in order to get them. I’ve e-mailed you three times in the past three months, but haven’t heard a response.

I totally get that you, Eddy and the gang are super busy working on a bunch of great products and that your e-mail must be swamped with more important stuff. Is there a different place I should apply or should I send you another e-mail in March?

Thanks for the submissions- you should totally keep submitting. Generally, what you’re looking to have happen is that your submission comes across a developer’s desk as they are looking to give somebody new a chance, and your submission is good enough that they see the potential in it and give you a shot. Most of the time, we’d love to get back to you and give you encouragement and even some pointers, but the reality is that there are only so many hours in the day and being responsive to your submission is likely going to mean carving away time from a project. But: Don’t be discouraged, the chances are that your work is really good, but there wasn’t a need to pull in somebody new right when it came in. So keep polishing and submitting.

Ah. Cool. So we should be submitting mechanics and/or story? Should we focus on any particular product line? And should we send them to richt@theonyxpath.com or somewhere else?

I’ve been submitting credentials rather than material, but I can definitely change that.

Credentials are nice, material is the crux of the matter. What do you write best? Systems or setting? Submit your best, and yes you can send it directly to me until we get the Onyx Path submissions email to work. Make sure any submissions are accompanied by the form on the Onyx website.

As an interesting aside, the current Pope was head of the Inquisition from 1981-2005, or the ‘Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith’ as they are now called; because you know the term Inquisition brings up less family friendly images… It’s hard to market yourself under a name where people associate you with torture as well as burning women and children.

I forgot to mention, I’m really enjoying the progress updates via this form. Though I would kinda like a ballpark estimate for the Red List pdf, even if you tell us an estimate that is 2-3 months later than you actually think it’ll be ready.

I will give Updates, but have found that estimates freak people out. Right now, Matt is reworking some sections of the V20 Red List based on Justin’s feedback.

Good stuff. Any chance the God Machine Chronicles will also hit kickstarter? Can’t wait to start pledging… ;)

Neither Chronicle (God Machine nor Strix) needs a Kickstarter, so we first have to be sure that those that need them for Deluxe editions can get them. I really don’t want to do a KS a month even if the KS guys would let me.

    Hi Rich,

Is the intention that the new content kickstarted into HHII (Inquisition and Project Twilight) will be included in the PDF and PoD versions that come later, or will they only be available to the kickstarters, or possibly seperately later?

    • richt
      February 12, 2013 at 8:57 pm

The intention is that the KS Stretch Goals being passed have added the new material to the product itself.

As promised, I’m doing better this week! :)

    1.0 Schedule.
Looking at the schedule found here: http://theonyxpath.com/schedule/
I notice that a lot of stuff are headed out way in February. Is the plan to kickstart all of that this month or will some of those KSs get pushed back?

    2.0 New Stretch Goals.
Bravo on the new stretch goals idea for HHII. Seriously. I’m am quite happy to see that the book is getting more material with stretch goals. Just saying, I would be quite happy if Changing Breeds, World of Rage and Book of the Wyrm (especially Book of the Wyrm) had those too. :)

    3.0 Submissions
Just saying, I’d love to have the answers to Grim’s questions above too. I am still very much motivated to try and find new book or stretch goal book ideas for Onyx Path. Of course, I know you guys are awesome, and don’t even remotely lack for ideas. I just think sometimes a fresh perspective can point out interesting and unexplored areas to expand upon.

    4.0 Pledges
Any chance at all that an upcoming KS will allow us to get our mugs immortalized in the art like W20 did for Changing Breed’s art? I’d love to follow up on Tomakahn’s suggestion :)

    Thanks! :)

The posted schedule is temporary: we haven’t yet assembled an updated schedule to account for the slippage that happened last year, so stuff is currently just getting pushed back month-to-month until we get the new one up. Not every product is Kickstarted, anyway.

Thanks. :) Might I reorient my question then?
Without giving actual dates and in full knowledge that this is likely to change, would it be possible to have an idea of the order of the upcoming next few kickstarters?

        Thank you,

      Ian answered #1 pretty well.

#2- We’ll see how we handle each of these moving forward. I’m open to playing with the format as much as we can.

#3- See answers to Grim above.

#4- Pretty sure every one of our KSs has included that Reward Tier- it’s really popular.

So is there a soft date set for the EX3 AMA? Are you guys planning to host it in r/RPGs or in an other subreddit?

    • IanW
      February 14, 2013 at 1:26 pm

What Rich said was that the AMA we did had a lot of info about Ex3; we’re not planning on a separate Exalted AMA.

Hey all. Hm… I’m currently reading the NWO book that came out recently (Enjoying it a lot so far too), and I was wondering: would there be an opening to also remade Iteration X if the others books sold well enough? (I unless it’s already planned and i just didn’t find it in the schedule)

I know it’s been done before CWoD ended, but it’s the only not getting the 2012-2013 post avatar storm era do-over.

    Thanks. :)

      February 18, 2013 at 12:21 am

We’re doing the rest of the Revised Convention Books because ItX stood by itself. Releasing a New New Edition of ItX would sort of defeat the point.

      • Yiodan
        February 19, 2013 at 11:48 am

        I do see your point.

I guess my concern was in regards to the changes in all of the conventions that was brought up by the avatar storm. But, I remembered later that the storm what already up in revised, so, I suppose the book already had that covered. I’ll have to read it soon.

        Thanks. :)
