The Index Is Done

And it’s going into W20 now!

AS Rich mentions in the latest Kickstarter update, the Index is going into the book now. Once that’s done, every Kickstarter backer gets a PDF to make sure that their name is in right. At the same time, we get files sent off to the PoD and Deluxe printers.

I don’t want to say how long this last step will take. If I say “by X”, it’ll end up being the day after X just to make us look bad.

But it’s coming.

I caught it on the Kickstarter proper, but thank you for posting it here as well.
Information is key and I think we’re all chomping at the bit to get our shiny new toys.

    Thanks again Stew.

Thank you for posting this, Stew.

One nitpick, though, shouldn’t it be ‘the PDF’ as it refers to W20 rather than ‘a PDF’?

‘a PDF’ for backers to check their names. Once any mistakes are corrected, it becomes ‘the PDF’. 🙂

So, no PDF in this week either.

So in effect, this book has now taken a year and a half to make. I’m not angry, I’m not blaming you. But I hope with Mage 20th, W20’s production has served as a lesson in doing these 20th edition books.

Most books take one to two years to make.

Welcome to Traditional Publishing. There’s a reason Onyx Path quit this game.

W20 only started being written in December, so it’s not a year and a half until June. A year for a book is about right; the over-run here is due to a number of factors including a hurricane.

        All right.

I’m not trying to guilt anyone here for the lateness, stuff happens ^^”

Sorry, I’m probably being a bit shorter than I intend — I injured my back at the weekend and painkillers are messing with my brian. Brain. One of those.

Back in the olden days, books generally took 1-2 years to make; generally, we as writers would expect the book to come out around a year after final drafts. Sometimes we could condense that time-period (Hunter: The Vigil’s core was quite condensed, but the supplements slipped despite our best efforts). Sometimes, it was nearer to two years, when the schedule had to be re-jigged during/after writing.

Our sweet-spot right now for a kickstarted book is nowhere near that long. W20 was abnormal — a few of us went quite over our allotted wordcount, so the book itself is about 10% thicker than V20, then the Kickstarter was delayed while Rich worked out the best way to handle shipping and tried to get the Heavy Metal Edition sorted. Then, as mentioned, we had the hurricane that scuppered us near the end of the Kickstarter.

In other, better news: keep an eye on the email address you used for the Kickstarter. I don’t want to promise when, but sometime in the next couple of days I’d think something might show up.

Yeah, Rich updated the Kickstarter page. Can’t wait ^^
