Frostlands Expeditions: Fenrilik So Far [Scarred Lands]

Hi all,

Travis Legge here to talk to you a bit about Frostlands of Fenrilik. As the year wraps up, I wanted to give a quick look back on how this new addition to the Slarecian Vault for Scarred Lands has done so far, what sort of creations it has inspired, and what I would like to see.

In case you are unfamiliar with Frostlands of Fenrilik, here’s the blurb:

Frostlands of Fenrilik is an expansion for Scarred Lands 5e OGL that explores the frozen continent of Fenrilik. Known as the Roof of the World, Fenrilik is a massive frozen tundra filled with unique creatures, dangerous weather and deadly Titanspawn.

This book is created through the Slarecian Vault Community Content program and is designed to not only permit your party to take their adventures to Fenrilik, but also to allow you to create your own Fenrilik content for release via the Slarecian Vault!

Frostlands of Fenrilik includes:

  • Information on the history, geography, civilizations and religions of Fenrilik
  • New rules for travel and survival in the arctic wastes
  • New player options including 3 new races, 4 new subclasses, and 8 new spells
  • Over a dozen new monsters, and guidelines for creating more
  • An introductory adventure designed to take a party from levels 1-3

Exciting stuff, right? Since Frostlands of Fenrilik released, there have been eleven books released for Fenrilik. Of those, we have:

  • Five bestiaries
  • One adventure
  • One character sheet
  • One core setting expansion
  • One new playable race
  • One set of ready-made characters
  • One set of subclasses

Each of these offerings have been high-quality and a great deal of fun. These are perfect to add to your Fenrilik campaign, or drop into any snowy, northern, or otherwise frost-covered setting. I’ve featured a few of these offerings on the blog before, and I plan to do a deeper dive into more in the coming weeks, but today I just wanted to illustrate the type of content that is already out there. Hopefully, this breakdown will help you decide what type of content you want to make for Fenrilik.

Personally, I always love new adventures and new player options. Adventures save me a ton of time on game prep, even if I make changes, it’s nice to have an outline to fall back on. New player options are always fun and a great way to evoke the feel of the setting. Several classes have not been touched on yet in Fenrilik material, so here is a chance to truly break new ground!

I would also like to note that all of the content published on the program so far is for the 5e OGL. The Slarecian Vault explicitly allows Pathfinder 1e products, and I know there is a segment of the fan base who prefer that ruleset, so I would encourage you to adapt some of these items to the Pathfinder ruleset. I would honestly love to see someone make a system guide for Fenrilik for Pathfinder.

Lastly, I want to thank the creators who have supported the release of Frostlands of Fenrilik. In addition to the wonderful community content creators who have put out material for the setting, we have had great support from the streaming community. Our friends at Vorpal Tales ran a few games on the Onyx Path Twitch, as did Frostlands of Fenrilik authors Ayli Katt and Sarah Stewart, who you can see every Monday on Scarred Lands: A Family Affair. We have also been fortunate enough to have the fine folks at Nerdsmith run a Fenrilik actual play, as well as the grand gamers of Blackwater DND. I would especially like to thank Kyle Gould for his outreach and coordination with all those actual plays.

If you have thoughts on Frostlands of Fenrilik, content you would like to see, or general Scarred Lands feedback, you can let me know in the comments below, at the Onyx Path Forums, or on the official discord! And don’t forget that the Scarred Lands: Dead Man’s Rust Kickstarter is almost at an end! Head over and get instant access to manuscript previews to start your adventure TODAY!
