Yes, we’re in October: the scariest month. And it is the 13th of October: possibly the scariest day. And we’re not yet halfway through the Kickstarter for the Curseborne Player’s Guide…which is the scariest KS we’ve done so far this year!

We’re a hair away from 800 backers and also closing in on the next Stretch Goal of more short stories based on the PG. And, as I said, we’re not even half-way through! Thanks to all of you who have backed!

For you, and for folks who still need to know more, we are amping up our Curseborne PG KS outreach with a variety of events that may pique your interest, with more Gentleman Gamer vids on Facebook and Actual Plays on our Twitch and other venues, the Curseborne Player’s Guide intro brochure and the Curseborne Ashcan both free PDFs on DTRPG, and much more!

Curseboi here with another big update from the front lines. I hear there’s some hubub about the Curseborne Player’s Guide on Kickstarter and the release of new Families and even Orphans. I’d be an orphan myself if it weren’t for all this sweet money my Family keeps funneling into me. Sometimes you put up with some really crappy people just to survive, am I right? Anyway, I’m pretty sure they’ve also got info on Venators coming up, along with all the juicy details on how Families interact with their members (spoiler: poorly). If you want my opinion, this book is essential to understand the inner workings of Accursed life. It’s all the stuff they wouldn’t let me share with you last year, so you should really look into getting it.

Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, Danielle here to actually talk about the Player’s Guide in a less silly way. I’m really proud of this book and everything in it. While the core rulebook took years to get to this point, this book happened in what feels like a flash in comparison. Everyone who worked on the book was so tuned into the tone, themes, and presentation that development was a breeze. It just goes to show how a lot of hard work up front makes for a lighter load later. I’m also really happy with the responses we’ve been seeing to the manuscript previews so far. I honestly can’t wait for you all to get the whole manuscript, because while we’ve released some really good material, there’s so much good material in this book. You’re really in for a treat. And I’ll be honest, I’m most looking forward to when you get access to the Venators, because I spent a lot of time considering how people who know about Accursed enough to hunt them, but don’t just become Accursed themselves, look in the world we’ve created. And that is something I think a lot of you will enjoy seeing. So keep the input coming, and if you haven’t backed, you’re missing out on so much good stuff!

Hey folks! Excited that we passed the 150% funded mark, and that people are chatting about the manuscript! There’s a lot going on (because people are also reviewing the core rulebook for errata), but already there have been a few places I’ve seen where we can clarify the Player’s Guide. I should put out a couple of general reminders about errata/feedback:

  • Please submit any errata or feedback to the provided Google forms. With conversations happening in many different places, it’s very hard to stay on top of it all, so for our own sanity we ask people to put it in the form so we can review it all in one place. Messages on Discord or comments on blogs or Kickstarter will be missed.
  • We’re human, not algorithms, so we’re going to make mistakes, or just have a different design ethos than you. Insulting the writers who worked hard on these books isn’t appreciated, nor is relentlessly interrogating them at all hours of the day because you don’t understand something. If you put feedback in the form, I promise we’ll review it, and if it’s a genuine error or unclear section, we’ll do what we can to fix it!

One area that got a lot of discussion are Orphans, and an assumption that they’re characters who have not quite gained their Accursed state. That’s not accurate, because pre-Accursed are a separate thing that’s also in the book! Here’s a sneak peek at that section.

To create a character suitable to become Accursed who is not yet over the threshold, follow the normal character creation process (see Curseborne, p. XX), with the following exceptions.
Steps 2-3: Do not gain an Inheritance or torment.
Step 5: Do not gain any Entanglement. Your character can only hold curse dice if they take one or more of the Pre-Accursed Edges.
Optional: You may reserve your contact choices for either or both of your Lineage and Family Paths. For each contact you reserve, you may also reserve up to two points to distribute between them.
Step 6: Do not gain spells. You cannot select any Supernatural Edges, but you can choose from the Pre-Accursed Edges.

Manifesting Your Curse
When bringing your character from their lives before they were Accursed to when their Damnation fully manifests, use the following to bring your character sheet to the fully Accursed state.
• Gain a personal and Lineage torment.
• Whichever of your Family or Lineage Paths are major, gain the associated Inheritance.
• Gain the appropriate Entanglement as laid out in Curseborne p. XX (typically 1).
• If you took the optional choice to reserve your contact choices for either or both your Lineage or Family Paths, make those choices now and then distribute the points you reserved, if any, between them.
• You may replace any or all of the Pre-Accursed Edges you with supernatural ones, redistributing the dots you had in the Edges.
• Gain 3 spells from either your Lineage Practice or your Family Path’s secret spells.

Yes, it’s so spooky the sheer amount of horrific material that is in this book!

Apparently, some of our Monday Meeting crew are fans of that old show. Who knew?

We’re hearing from Jack Berkenstock of the Bodhana Group that they are going to be sending out the Backer PDF links for the Branch Riders TTRPG this week – maybe even on Tuesday, tomorrow!

For those of you who missed it, last year Onyx Path and TBG teamed up to create Branch Riders, and we are very close to offering this innovative and kid-friendly game to the public on DTRPG once a few more steps are gone through! Or as Jack himself shares:

We are nearing the end of a long journey that began six years ago with a dream of a world based on our heroes of the game chibis.  Tomorrow, backers should look to Kickstarter for their updates where they will receive a link to download their Backer Proof.  This marks a great step where we finally get to show you the layout for the final book.  From here Backers will have one week to be able to send us feedback and notes.  (Don’t worry about any Page XX’s – we got those already – LOL).  This book is looking great and we are excited to see the reaction folks are gonna have!  After we have a chance to go through your notes and make any changes needed, we will be sending out updates on how to redownload your final copy of the book.  After that we will be gathering a set of files together for printable condition cards, character sheet and exposure tracker.  Our goal was to have the main book out as soon as possible so you can start playing.  We are also putting finishing touches to the Facilitators Guide for those who backed at that level.  We could not offer enough thanks to everyone who has been a part of this journey and especially to all of those patient backers.  If you’re not yet a backer, you have a limited time before we close the late pledges, so if you want your chance to protect the realms and join the Branch Riders – do so now!  Remember there are Eight Realms… One Mission!
