Eddy Remains Not Dead for Thanksgiving. [Monday Meeting Notes]

Mage_004_final

In the category of “things to be grateful for”, we have the fact that Fast Eddy Webb was not killed by terrorists as he watched the WWE in Atlanta. As we understand it, there was a threat made about the event.

So that’s a good thing.

The Eddy not being dead part, not the threatening.

Yes, it’s the time of the year where we here at Onyx Path give up some thanks for our Thanksgiving holiday here in the US (which we’ll be celebrating Thursday and I hear some of us might take Friday off too!) I’ll slide in a few comments about how stuff is going here along with them, too.

To start with, I’m thankful that things are starting off great with our friends at the new White Wolf Publishing as we piece together a new working relationship with a team that truly is excited and cares about the two World of Darknesses and Exalted.

  • Fast Eddy Webb sez: “I’m thankful for a community that’s excited and enthusiastic about Onyx Path trying new things like Pugmire.”

I remain thankful that Onyx can work with both new talented folks and with long-time creators like Andy Trabbold who illustrated the full page piece of art from Mage: the Awakening 2nd that heads up this blog.

  • Multi-talented Monica Valentinelli (upcoming Hunter: the Vigil 2nd Edition developer and marketing maven) suggests: “I’m grateful that we have the opportunity to be transparent in the way we create games, and that we can include fans in that process.”

I’m very thankful that I can have a chat with a guy who makes plush dolls, switch to a Skype call with Stew Wieck about our Scarred Lands Kickstarter, email Steve Secchi, my old client for Talislanta, just to catch up after 20 years, send Eddy some Pugmire symbols for the rulebook, run through V20 Lore of the Clans tweaks with Martin from WWP, discuss both the StoryPath system and Scion with Neall, and send out quote requests to our printers for Changeling 20th all in one afternoon. What a job!

  • Rollickin’ Rose Bailey is thankful for: Cavaliers of Mars moving forward.”

We have so many talented creators we work with without whose efforts none of our projects would be possible, and I am thankful every day that I get to work with these maniacs. From the freelance artists, writers, editors, designers, and developers, and our friends like the Wrecking Crew, Dead Gamers’ Society, By Night Studios, and Nocturnal Media, to our Onyx Path crew, the sheer effort everyone puts forth because they love this business is staggering.

  • Mighty Matt McElroy yells in from his DTRPG desk: “I’m thankful for the awesome team at Onyx Path that makes these projects come to life and the fans that tell their stories with them.”

I’m thankful that Onyx Path has been able to accomplish our big goal of revitalizing the two Worlds of Darkness with 2nd and 20th Anniversary Editions, and to deliver, finally, a version of Exalted whose rules both work and which complement the setting. We have a lot more to deliver with these game lines, but to the point: today I almost never hear the oft-repeated cry of several years ago that “White Wolf Is Dead”.

  • Impish Ian Watson affably adds: “I’m thankful the community’s being patient with us while we put together a Trinity Continuum we can be proud of.”

You can also hear our Impish friend chat about Onyx Path and Wraith: the Oblivion in this podcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC5mLqR2Sxk

I’m thankful for the many friends I’ve made in these decades of making tabletop RPGs, who contacted me with their concerns and ideas for Onyx Path after the news about Paradox buying the WW IPs came out and nobody knew what was going on. Good feelings and good ideas there, and they were all appreciated, even if things are looking excellent right now.

  • Lovely Lisa Thomas is thankful for: “My first full year at Onyx Path and the opportunity to work with such a great team.”

I was almost not going to include this because I say it all the time, but you folks make it worth it every single freakin’ day that we do what we do. So I’m saying it again, I’m thankful for our amazing, impassioned, and vocal community of players and fans. You folks!

And here we go: tell me of those things you are thankful for in the comments here. Personal, professional, gaming…lay them on me. And if you are not all about exposing your personal thoughts about this, how about telling me what your favorite character is thankful for? Be as obscure in your references as you like.

I’ll start: my monk, Lupo Vossi, from the Bellaluna Pathfinder campaign Justin Achilli runs at odd intervals through the year, is thankful that the non-violent priest he was bodyguarding finally went to his just deserts while Lupo was paralyzed. (Lupo was forgiven by his bishop). Now Lupo can actually use his maneuverability and get stuck in without having to wait to see what incredibly stupid thing the priest might be trying, like trying to mediate between two factions firing crossbows while standing between them. Madonna!

  1. Those kids at school, they tease you, Kenny, because they’ve never tasted Hell. Today, we turn the tables.

(I’m Canadian, but Thanksgiving MST3K is something we can all be thankful for. Also Onyx Path!)

  2. The second proof for demon, is that the pdf proof or does it still have to get to paradox for a once over? I’m getting irked over paradox if it takes them this long to approve a single book. Like they’re trying to drag their heels into the new year.

  3. Whoo Pugmire! Very excited to get my hands and the game and take it for a spin.

I’m thankful that it appears things are shaping up well with Paradox. I’ve been concerned about that since the announcement, and every update seems to bring more good news.

  4. Since you can’t bold deleted lines, am I right in thinking that Promethean 2e has finished development and is now entirely in art and layout? And that the main Dark Eras book is also out of development and into art and layout?

If I am right, yay! Really looking forward to both of those.

    • Yes, I pledged on the first day and while I’d love to see the old gang in various combinations get back together if they could do an episode here and there, Joel’s plans for hosts and robots and bads sound pretty interesting.

  5. About Scion. Would it be okay to ask about a recap of where we stand? Wasn’t there a change in the team? If so, how does it impact what Joe had said so far about his goals and core concept?

    Thanks in advance.

  6. Ok Rich, roger that:

I’m thankful for my group of friends, wich whom i’m actually playing tabletop rpgs (after 10 years).

I’m thankful for having some mental peace, after a couple of rough years. More importantly for my wonderful family.

I’m thankful for today’s walking dead episode ;)… Ohh and i’m thankful for the onyxpath marvelous work and the new wwp deserved recognition.

Ohh and for the Steam controller, playing Castlevania with your keyboard it’s hell.

  7. I am thankful for having the chance to bring together a great group of players. While some members come and go, the core of their ranks remain consistent and are willing to save me from eternal GM hell.

I never have a game with these guys that I can’t wring some enjoyment out of. My best roleplaying memories are with them. I had the privilege of bringing them into the World of Darkness when I chose to ST a Vampire: the Requiem game for them. I am thankful they gave me the chance to do so after we had a rather awful experience just before that with Mage: the Awakening under a first time ST.

Now I’m getting the honor of bringing my friends into my love for Exalted, and I am so very thankful that Third Edition has been an edition I could feel proud to introduce them to.

  8. I am thankful for Mage20, and how it gave me a chance to coer– I mean, *convince* a group of fine folks to subm– I mean *join* me in playing the first White Wolf game that truly changed how I see the world.

It has been an unexpectedly wild ride that has suddenly taken a very strange direction, as they build a spy car out of a german sedan. I swear I did not know a brief and unpredictable encounter with some slightly offended technocrats would get them this antsy!

It has been a fantastic year, so I am also thankful for finding and regularly meeting to play with these crazy mofos.

And finally, yes, I am thankful for you, Rich, and the entire Onyx Path family, for being excellent, all in all. Cheers!

  9. Though not an American, let me just say in the Thanksgiving spirit that I am also thankful that things between Onyx Path and White Wolf are working out! You guys at Onyx Path have been doing an utterly outstanding job with the World of Darkness and I would love to see it continue!

  10. Changeling 20.
In December? What fresh hell is this????

Couldn’t you guys have chosen a month with the possibilities for more spare cash? Christmas is going to leave me strapped for cash as it is.
January is at least just the fallout from the Holidays, but my bank account is going to be reeling as it is?….

    Bah. Humbug.

    • You’re doing it wrong – you need to get cash for Christmas and hoard it waiting for cool things like the C20 KS. Not spending it on other people! Pshaw!

  11. Not in the US here but thankful for a lot of things; In terms of gaming I’m thankful for a really great E3! Also for the other posters in the forum – I learn a lot from there!

Something character-wise? Easy. My VtM Lasombra who’s been played through from DA and has existed for years and years – He’s thankful for Abyssal sorcery and his Infernal contracts (Yes, plural) as he’s a devious creep and somehow manages to always come out on top; he’s especially thankful for his debased Garou minions. Cultivating a Rev family over centuries through Ghouldom, Dominate and Abyssal sorcery really does give you the warm and fuzzies. Especially if their changers. 🙂

  12. Well, I’d say that the not being dead thing is a great one to be thankful about. I would say also that I am thankful to see Scion stir again. I am thankful to Richt for being here every week to entertain us and keep us posted. I am thankful someone realized it was a crime the these licences were not used in other media and finally bought them with the full intent to do something about it. I am thankful for the moral endurence of the OP team who have continued on even if many of us homids can be quite insensitive at times.

I am thankful to have such a great community to come back to every week. Happy thanksgiving everyone!

  13. I am deeply thankful to be alive and to be getting my deluxe Vampire Dark Ages from the post office later today. I am also thankful that C20 is next month. My character, an Ecuadorian pest controller who is descended from a Brazilian wandering spider, is thankful that nobody has yet twigged he isn’t human, and for the abandoned and flooded silver mine which he found in the jungle and which makes a perfect Sylie. Bastet, Garou and especially Ratkin KEEP OUT!

  16. Ah, I see some second edition Mage art! Could this be deliberately whetting our fangs–errr, acting as a teaser to keep us hyped for the release? I do think so…

One mustn’t rush greatness, but…no seriously, do hurry up, I needed a copy of this book over three months ago, I must run a tabletop game! >;[

  17. I’m thankful for Onyx Path and nWoD. I’m thankful that someone writing something that is entirely and blessedly fictional can inspire me to reinvigorate my love of history. I’m thankful that they can also inspire me to pick up the pen as an author instead of an academic for the first time since grade school and push me to writing something worth reading. I’m thankful that they have an open door policy when it comes to freelancers so that one day I may get to look at things from the other side of the sourcebook page.

All of these are little things that I’m greatful for, and there are much bigger ones in my life like family, good health, and an awesome job. But the little things matter, and they have helped push my mental health from good to great! That’s worth the thankfulness and the thanks.

    • You are very welcome and yes, isn’t it great when one thing in your life build up or upon another like that? One of the things Eddy and I often talk about is how to stay open to other possibilities in your life even while working intently on projects because nothing we do exists in a vacuum. I took a break from painting a few years ago, was just feeling frustrated with my efforts, and painted up some miniatures including a Blood Bowl team, and just doing that gave me ideas for how to technically approach 2-D painting and drawing and got me revved up again for illustration. And that’s an example of two close experiences, never mind the far out ones that shouldn’t connect, but do.

  18. It’s somewhat late and there in Hungary we haven’t a Thanksgiving Day, however, I’m thankful about the positive hints about WWP and for OPP for bringing back to life the games which have been always resonating very deep in me.

Simply, the good ‘ol world won’t be the same place without books and enthusiastic people about cWoD, our glorious, beautifull, horrific and magical twin.

  20. Damn, so many things to be thankful for! Let’s start with:

    – MAGE 2e!! Oh baby, my body is ready.

    – My chapter of Shattered Dreams (War of Dragons) was revealed on the KS, and people (seemed to have) liked it! /relief

    – On that note, I am incredibly, indescribably thankful to have written on not one but TWO WoD books. Seriously, that is something that teenage-me could only have DREAMED about. 😀

    – Lastly, I have a craft beer advent calendar, and I am counting down the days to Dec 1st.

    All in all, good times!

  22. I’m grateful for Onyx Path. I move through a world of work and mundane obligations. I’m not getting any younger and sometimes feel like I don’t know who the person in the mirror is anymore. But when I sit down with friends and step into the world of darkness I feel a vital energy and imagination return. Sometimes I only feel alive when I’m playing the dead. Thanks again and again for keeping this amazing world going for us.

  23. I’m thankful that RichT responded to my Kickstarter gripe right away (and not, as I explicitly TOLD him to do, AFTER the turkey feast day)! I mean, he and the rest of Onyx Path are a treasure no matter what… I mean, DUH!

Further, family who feel like friends and friends that really are family, reasonably good health after nearly 25 years of World of Darkness, and my high-speed internet connexion are all worth thankfulness. Also, I hope that the rest of all y’all have a very best weekends, whether you’re giving thanks or not!
