Thanks everyone who commented on our blog posts last week. Hearing from you was both informative and very helpful. As you might imagine, we spent a fair amount of time during this week’s Monday Meeting discussing the reactions we’ve encountered.
End of the day, we’ve tried from the beginning of Onyx Path‘s existence to bring in new and diverse creators onto our projects, and now that we’re starting to make that work, we’re not going to let them feel threatened here.
While it might seem like a tonal shift to now start talking about the Lunars Kickstarter; all of last week and into the meeting today we looked to this KS as an awesome positive example of what we do in the midst of a lot of negativity.
Gotta have light shining in the dark, gotta have the good with the bad.
Part of why we’re grooving on the Kickstarter and all the great comments and posts about Lunars as we “leak” out parts of the manuscript, is that we’re hearing so many folks enjoying what they are reading. That’s great, and it is what we hoped for, as there’s always been a feeling on the creative level that the last two editions just didn’t do full justice to the Lunars.
As per the blog title: 3rd time’s the charm. (All the puns and allusions intended).
Here’s hoping everyone’s enthusiasm stays stoked once all the text is revealed by the end of the Kickstarter – we certainly think it’s all great!
Something else that I’m personally thrilled by is the Scarred Lands game being played by Devil’s Luck Gaming on their Twitch channel here:https://twitch.tv/videos/385880467
For me, I was very impressed by the costuming and design of the promo I saw, but started chortling when I saw the Slitherin ratman all made up and squeaking! See, I was the one who originally wrote their first descriptions in the first Creature Collection.
And no, I did not name them after the House. I had not even read those books when I gave them that name, but boy did I realize how it sounded after I did! I was going more for the feel of them slithering up out of the ground and from sewers, with dirty jagged daggers in hand.
So it’s an absolute thrill to see one of them being played, and played so well. Check it out if you can.
Finally, we talked about the Onyx Pathcast interview with Eric Zawadzki about his work on Deviant, and how he has stepped into Dave Brookshaw’s shoes as developer of the book.
You can hear Eric’s enthusiasm for Deviant, and how infectious that is during the interview, and we’re all extremely excited to be getting closer to presenting this new kind of supernatural for Chronicles of Darkness.
Eddy notes several times how the themes of Deviant are very basic, very grounded, and very evocative for our current time. Deviants are very accessible as characters, and very flexible in what could inspire them. There are just so many pop culture references that could be drawn from, as well as classical stories of quests for revenge and payback.
Take a listen, if you have the time, and I think you’ll agree just from listening to Eric, Dixie, and Eddie talk about the game. Link down below in the BLURBS! section.
Until next week, remember:
Many Worlds, One Path!

ELECTRONIC GAMING:
As we find ways to enable our community to more easily play our games, the Onyx Dice Rolling App is now live! Our dev team has been doing updates since we launched based on the excellent use-case comments by our community, and this thing is both rolling and rocking!
Here’s an update from the App devs:
Onyx Dice! We’ve recently released the Changeling: The Lost, Trinity Continuum: Aeon dice, and now the Geist dice. Next up on our radar is: Demon: The Fallen, Mummy: The Resurrection, Kindred of the East, Vampire Dark Ages, and Mummy: The Curse.
We have a serious issue on the Pixel and Motorola phones that prevent the user from using the app correctly. A fix is coming shortly. A temporary workaround is to minimize the app without shutting it down, and then restore it.
ON AMAZON AND BARNES & NOBLE:
You can now read our fiction from the comfort and convenience of your Kindle (from Amazon) and Nook (from Barnes & Noble).
If you enjoy these or any other of our books, please help us by writing reviews on the site of the sales venue you bought it from. Reviews really, really help us with getting folks interested in our amazing fiction!

TODAY’S REASON TO CELEBRATE:
Today in 1971, Sean Astin was born and then was raised by Gomez Addams. Later, he searched for pirate treasure with his goony friends, played football, and became a gardener for the Baggins family. After a long journey to return a particularly memorable piece of jewelry to the manufacturer’s facilities for a refund, he was elected Mayor of his town of residence. Let’s hear it for “our Sam”!
Geist 2nd ed is in “2nd proof”, is that code for “out to backers soon”?
It’s code for “The streetcar goes up the hill”. Something is definitely wrong with our Enigma machine.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to ensure the quality of Onyx Path products
Oh glorious day! Wr20 at my door!
The chains! I didn’t even know about the chains! What a beauty it is. 🙂
Glad you like it! Check out the spine button in the dark if you leave it out in the light all day.
Very niiiiice! 😀
I noticed that Trinity Core and Aeon are in mind meld. Does that mean that the books have to be shipped to planet Vulcan for approval? That’ll take a while, I suppose, but they’re sure to catch any errors in logic therein.
In the unlikely (riiiight) event I’ve misunderstood the meaning of the phrase “mind meld,” could you be so kind as to clarify?
And the happiest of birthdays indeed to the Fat Hobbit!
Or, we have to arrange for Vulcans to join each of our contributors and then do the ritual of Tu’u Naak Pa Phar to connect all the meld at a distance.
How much longer for Gods and monsters
Depends on Satyr Phil and how long it takes to input the errata changes.
I love that list of Scion materials at the very end. It’ll be nice to have the physical books and I still don’t know what the dice look like (the last time I saw a picture was the mock-up for the KS).
I’ll try and remember to include a pic next week.
Check out the Onyx Path dice roller. The virtual dice are there and I suspect they’re the same as their physical counterparts.
Any updates about hunter the vigil second. Its the third week with no update
Thanks in advance for any answer !
Sorry, I don’t know what you mean. It’s listed in the Development phase.
I think they are asking if there’s any news on where in development it is. I did notice there is new Art stuff being done (I think) So I’m hoping that means good things!I’m definitely looking forward to it.
When I saw the pledge price for a print copy of Lunars, I was flabbergasted. Usually, print books are around $60, but the print is $ 120, so I pledged for the PDF and will get a print later. I’m wondering if the high price is because of the added PDF, or is their something else you’re not telling us.
It’s a deluxe edition, and the price is in keeping with the other deluxe Exalted books (and deluxe WOD 20th anniversary cores) they’ve Kickstarted before.
As marin says, this is the *deluxe* edition, not the normal one. You will be able to pick up a Print-on-Demand from DrivethruRPG after the kickstarter, and usually they offer coupons to backers to pick up a somewhat cheaper PoD at or very slightly above cost.
(For example, the Exalted 3rd core deluxe has a number of cloth bookmarks, gilded page edges, and a very nice cover with the title in High Realm glyphs. The print on demand is just a normal book.)
Like the other folks said. Basically, the Deluxe cover treatment is extremely expensive for us, so that is reflected in the pledge amount. It was actually that cost that originally led to us doing our very first Kickstarter back in the day, as we couldn’t have afforded to front those costs.
The Onyx Dice Rolling App will have V5 rules support in the future?
We’d like to, but that’s up to WW.
I have to be honest: based on last week’s blog post, I feel pretty threatened around here. Plz understand I’m not saying this to stir the pot or create controversy or anything else. I genuinely feel like I have to walk on eggshells and I shut my mouth and don’t say anything because I’m terrified I’ll be accussed of… well, anything! Just to shut me up when I cross the wrong gender/identity/protected group.
Plz. Not looking for anger or sticks. Looking for understanding that this is having a visible effect on those of us who don’t always share every leaning Onyx Path has. We go quiet and just hope not to get shelled.
Truly sorry you feel that way, and I do understand. It can be scary and threatening when you’re not used to the rapidly changing world we are in and aren’t sure how to phrase things. And it can seem that something you are trying to get across with the best intentions is going to trip alarms you didn’t even know were an issue. It might seem that you’re going to get lumped in with the kind of harassers and abusers we talked about last week, and I do appreciate that.
Up to a point, though. Because we made it clear in the blog, and in the only response I personally made in the comments, that our actions are not knee-jerk or unconsidered or driven by other responses on other sites. If you define us believing that there’s room in our company and our hobby for all types of people as a “leaning”, then I’m afraid there’s not much I can do for you.
“If you define us believing that there’s room in our company and our hobby for all types of people as a “leaning”, then I’m afraid there’s not much I can do for you.”
That feels to me like an incredibly uncharitable reading of what I said and is exactly my point.
I see it as being specific, rather than “uncharitable”. We’ve been dealing with these sorts of cases as specific individual issues, and that’s the content of these blogs. Our audience and our creators run the gamut of just about every spectrum you can name, so pointing at our corporate entity’s “leanings” sounds like you aren’t looking at this specific situation as a specific situation, but through a lens that is more about the overall climate that is disturbing you, that feels threatening, and less about our specific situation and company. If you had said you feel threatened on our forums, or on our Facebook pages, or even in these comments, then those are also specific venues I’d be willing to examine what’s up and see what can be fixed. I can’t fix something as vague as “leanings”, hence my quoted note.
While I don’t think you should be made to feel threatened, I don’t think “walking on eggshells” around the extremely sensitive topic of such allegations is an unreasonable expectation. OP clearly put a great deal of thought and care into the post, and we have the responsibility to do likewise in our responses (even if we don’t believe other people are).
So Scion 2 is close to dropping and Aberrant is written but needs approval, WOOT! I want these two so much, and when I have both the first thing I’ll be doing is comparing how they handle powers. I’m hoping to use Storypath for many many settings, so the more variety in handling powers the better.
Mike / Rich,
Thank you so much for contracting Priscilla Kim to work on Exalted. I had the pleasure to meet her at DragonCon this year and she is as fun as she is talented. Your pool of artists continues to impress and I love the diverse direction you have taken for Exalted.
Also thrilled to see the progress on Geist and Memento Mori!
Priscilla’s a champ and a phenomenal talent. Also, very fun to play D&D with.
So, when Abberrant comes out, can we get a VIBRANIUM cover edition. Full metal goes super comic geek
You’d have to get all five Wakandan tribes to agree.
