Hacky Coughy Edition [Monday Meeting Notes]

Beckett Logo on Background

This is going to be a brief one, as I spent all last week ailing with the coughs. The worst part was how tired this cold made me; I’d be talking to someone and realize I was drifting towards sleep. Today, I’m still only summoning bursts of activity and energy, but they are longer bursts, so hopefully the thing is on its way out.

And I felt bad about not finishing up some quote requests, Scion symbols, and the Kickstarter whose title page is featured above, but then I noted that it looks like half our crew was down with something, or at a convention last week. Among the other medical things last week, Fast Eddy Webb had his sinuses purged, and on a good note, freelance writer, Developer, and bon-vivant Matthew Dawkins welcomed a baby boy! Congrats Matthew!

But, we’re catching back up now, so expect us to go live with the Deluxe V20 Beckett’s Jyhad Diary Kickstarter at 12 noon Eastern US time, this Thursday the 23rd!

Children of the Unconquered Sun arise!

Exalted 3rd Edition in both PDF and PoD versions is now on sale at DriveThruRPG.com: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/162759/Exalted-3rd-Edition

This is your tale. This is Exalted. What legends will they tell of your deeds?

Exalted 3rd Edition depicts both a revitalized and expanded Creation, and the triumphant return of the Solar Exalted—but whether their rebirth will herald the salvation or destruction of the world, none can say. The system redesign takes the best parts of the previous editions and streamlines the mechanics for maximum playability.

EX3

Exalted 3rd Edition includes:

  • New Fiction – Read a new tale by original Exalted developer and author Geoff Grabowski.
  • New Artwork – See the Realm in a new light with stunning artwork by both new and classic Exalted artists working under the direction of Maria Cabardo.
  • Expanded Locales – Expand your campaigns with a detailed overview of the sprawling and decadent Second Age of Man. In addition to classic locales such as Chiaroscuro and Nexus, find many new locations not detailed in previous editions, from the treacherous intrigues of Port Calin to the proud warriors of the frigid plains and forests of Medo, held in check only by the iron hand of the Realm.
  • Intrigue and Mystery – Discover a revitalized Realm, still standing at the brink of civil war, but more dangerous than ever before; and the Lunar dominions which harry its borders, seeking redress for ancient crimes while pursuing modern ambitions.
  • Expanded Character Creation – Create and play Solar Exalted characters and compelling mortal heroes with more information and fleshed out details.
  • Combat System – Fight with a new cinematic combat engine, primed to deliver dynamic, exciting, and easily resolved battles between heroes, gods, and armies.
  • Charms – Explore a vibrant new Charm set encompassing both classic Solar powers from previous editions and all-new powers to shift the course of Creation.
  • …and much, much more!

  1. And now for some completely un-doctor advice, Hot Toddy’s. Tea, honey, Bourbon & Lemon, cures what ails ya. Hopefully y’all be better soon
When DaveB finishes the last bits for Mage, is he moving to Deviant or is there a project between the 2?
Thinking this year or next for Trinity Continuum Kickstarter?
With the emphasis on GenCon, when do you start planning out the holiday scheduling?
    Rabbit season or Duck season?

  2. Ahhhh man, Beast: Prestige Edition is printing. So excited!

I promise not to get impatient: I remember how long it took for the M20 books to get out. I’ll sit here like a Good Dog.

  3. Please do more stuff for Exalted. I think we all want to know more about how Exigents and hybrids and such work in 3e, in addition to more about Evocations.

After reading about Promethean, I am now overly excited for the new edition to come out. I really appreciate the amount of effort and attention you’ve all been putting into these projects.

  5. Get well soon 🙂

I am really excited about V20 Lore of the Bloodlines’ progress. Can we get some more information about it? Like how much coverage each of the bloodline gets? (Although anything more than a splat will be fine *wink*)
I know, that’s all extra work for you guys and you have to fit it into your timetable somehow, so a ‘No’ is perfectly fine – I’ll just keep gnawing on my finger nails then 😀

    Thanks 🙂

    • Each Bloodlines gets a chapter, and they are: Baali, Daughters of Cacaphony, Gargoyles, Harbingers of Skulls, Kiasyd, Nagaraja, Salubri, Samedi, True Brujah. As per the Lore if the Clans KS stretch goals. Hope that helps!

      Reply
    • I’m really excited about that book too. From what I remember of the Kickstarter each Bloodline will be laid out in a similar way to the Clans in Lore of the Clans (a mix of lore and mechanics) but with each one getting a lower word count than the Clans did.

      Reply
      • You are quite correct! I wrote Kiasyd and Harbingers of Skulls for that upcoming book. I think players, Storytellers, and readers will all have a reason to be cheerful when they get a chance to look at it.

  6. I hope whatever’s got ahold of you clears up soon. I recently had something that took about a week and a half to clear up.

Something I thought of at work last night after reading your comment regarding the Scion KS: the post-KS survey always asks what stretch goals/add-ons we’d be interested in. I for one would always be interested in a translation guide (in this case, bringing Scion 1st edition up to 2nd edition).

  7. Product idea. Mental Condition Cards. Simply a port of the mental Derangements of 1st edition/Asylum to 2e. I don’t think Asylum needs a reprint, but having conditions like Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Multiple Personalitiy, etc would be nice (and I think some of these are valid in more than “mentally ill”).

  8. Hope you feel better Rich, I like a little corn whiskey and ginger beer when I’m under the weather myself.

Have you talked to Phil recently about the M20 books? Seems like they have been in frist draft phase for a while now.

    Reply
    • We can’t move them forward until he gets all the material out of that phase, so with him doing a lot of the primary writing, it takes a while.

      Reply
    • I’m hoping since he’s doing most of the primary writing there will be less time spent in the redline and dev stages. I seem to remember that being how things went for HDYDT and M20, but I could be remembering those phases fondly. I mean BoS is a pretty beastly tomb (appropriate given the size of M20). It and Wraith are the two projects I check first every Monday. I suspect in both cases once they move from their current phases things will be pretty exciting. At least that’s my MMMN manta.

  9. Mage 2nd Edition is going great so far. Very excited for the print edition; players find the new creative spell system much easier to understand and more encouraging of developing a unique magical style for each character.

  10. Under Redlines, it says, “Dagger of Spiragos – Pathfinder Version (Scarred Lands)”

Under Development, it says, “SL Dagger of Spiragos (Pathfinder – Scarred Lands 2nd Edition)”

Are bits of it further along than others? This is a case where, IMO, the more detailed explanations given for some items would come in handy.

Also, what’s the current status of the Cavaliers of Mars quickstart and/or the Scion alpha slice? They haven’t been on the update list for a couple of whiles now.

  11. Here on the Onyx forums and Reddit site, I’ve been talking with a lot of fellow gamers and we’d really love to see a V20 version of Chicago By Night. It was such an archetypal piece of vampire lore and perfect for the social interaction and low-key adventuring which was the game’s signature personal horror.

The 2nd Edition lost some of the originals’ quirkier loser Kindred but it’d be awesome see a toolbox version containing an updated description of the city, the original classic NPCs, and maybe some fixes (like the fact some of them had Humanity 0 but carried on normal lives).

Besides, what is any vampire edition without the Succubus Club?

    Reply
  12. Becketts sounds awesome. Any thoughts of doing this for mage (porthos view) or werewolf? Totally unrelated, any idea on if/when we will see a print on demand for Adventure! ?

    Reply
    • Or Wraith? Man is love to see a diary of the Skeletal Lord. See what it’s like as each new Wraith “promoted”to the position is subsumed by the mask. That would be amazing.

  13. Can you refresh my memory on what stage of the process ‘Development’ is? Asking for a friend ;p

Super excited about all of this CoD 2.0 stuff in the works!

    Reply
    • Development actually occurs all through the writing process, but the specific stage takes place after the final writing drafts are turned in and the developer makes sure the various authors’ text is as required. Formatting, confirming word count, and overall tone, are all things that could be part of the development stage.
