The Quick & the Dead [Monday Meeting Notes]

Promethean Premium

We’re quickly finishing up a bunch of Gen Con last minute details in order to take quick planes to the con this week. And we are all still alive and planning on getting lively at the con (for all you wanting to explain what “quick” means in the blog title).

Meanwhile, we are releasing the Advance PDF of Promethean: the Created Second Edition this Wednesday! Dead parts that are now alive and all that.

So first, more Gen Con info!

index

That’s our spot, right in the front. Check out our video this year; we’ve added a few new sequences as well as a special message for our Trinity Continuum: Aeon fans. We’ll have devs and writers coming by and many of them would love to run you a shortΒ game-play or character creation demo.

And remember that Dave Martin, the living legend, and the Wrecking Crew are running longer games over in the Marriott in Ballroom 10. A whole friggin’ room for our game lines: WoD, CofD, Exalted, Pugmire, Cavaliers of Mars, Trinity Continuum, Scarred Lands, and especially Scion. They will also be demoing the finalized Prince’s Gambit card game created by Justin Achilli!

Mirthful Mike Chaney wants all you interested illustrators and layout graphic designers to know that he will be in the booth and waiting feverishly to look through your portfolios – so bring them by! I’ve heard he is more likely to be in the booth in the mornings and gets the wanderlust in the afternoon. So if you want to apply your prodigious talents to our internationally recognized visual freelance team, now is your chance and Gen Con is the place!

Also about art, sort of, and more personal: as I have every year, I’ll be signing Magic the Gathering cards (the ones I did the art for, at least) when I’m in the booth. $1 a signature, and we’ll talk if you are looking for a sketch or whatever beyond the signature. Be sure and bring your own pens in the colors you want!

If you’re a podcaster that is interested in talking with me or any of the Onyx Path crew about what we’re up to, please feel free to stop by the booth and talk with Boppin’ Bill Bodden or the ever-loverly Mike Hollywood, our booth maestros,Β and we’ll get you set up.

If you are going, hope to see ya there! If not, keep an eye and ear out for our many social media tweets and posts! And if you have a question for any of the gang at our panels you’d like us to ask in absentia, post them in the comments here.

Extempore Spread from Promethean 2nd Edition
Extempore Spread from Promethean 2nd Edition

Promethean: the Created 2nd Edition‘s Advance PDF will come out on Weds at DTRPG, while we’re at Gen Con, but we’ll have a thread ready on our forums to take any errata you might find. It’ll take us some weeks to let folks post errata and then gather, review, and implement them, and then we’ll need to get the index created and the updated PDF and PoDs approved. So this is just the first taste of a splendid Promethean 2 release meal of several courses. Thanks!

And, of course, PtC2 developer Matt McFarland will be at Gen Con, too, so you can pepper him with questions about the new edition if you are there!

I hope you agree that this edition takes all the fantastic ideas that really made Promethean something special to play, and adds to them, while toning down some of the aspects that made the game seem difficult to play in groups or at all.

Finally, next week we’ll all be returning from Gen Con and we’ll be very, very tired. So no Monday Meeting and therefore no Monday Meeting Notes. But we’ll have stuff going on, so I’m sure you’ll have enough to read!

  1. This Monday Meeting Notes couldn’t have come at a better time. A Very Frustrating set of morning events has been all but forgotten thanks to updates and GenCon prep news here πŸ™‚ thanks OnyxPath team!

  2. One of these years I hope to get out to Gencon.

I forget what was said in previous Monday blogs, will there still be a product brochure? And if so, will it be available on DTRPG like before?

  3. I’m so, soooo EXCITED for Promethean: the Created Second Edition! EXCITE!

A lot of that is because my troupe was among the playtest group, and I cannot wait for everyone else to see what really wonderful stuff is in that book. Without breaking my NDA, I will say that Promethean’s core remains intact (or rebuilt, as the case may be), but this version is both more focused AND more expansive than the original. I mean, see that really wonderful addition of Extempore, above? There’s a lot of that kind of ‘mentioned one place but NOW it’s in the core book’ stuff, but it does NOT take away from what I loved about the game to begin with.

…I’m sure that it was some kind of lucky charm thing that I brought my copy of Prommie 2: Alchemical Boogaloo (yes, that’s what my printed-out playtest rules binder says). You bet I believe that *I* made the book come out. Uh, not really, but I did help a little. πŸ˜›

      • Yes, RichT… My brain that I found, along with some spare parts, a bit of electricity, stuff like that. πŸ˜‰

Big congrats to Matt and all his team of writers and artists for getting this out!

  4. I’ve noticed that Deviant: the [???] still isn’t on the Dev Status list. Has writing begun yet? When can we learn a little about it?

  5. When will the brochure go up online? Always one of the most fun things for those poor souls who can’t make the con this year.

    Reply
    • Probably Thursday. Again, this one is set up differently and contains a different emphasis, and doesn’t have a multi-page list of upcoming projects like in previous years.

      Reply
      • We’re almost out of Thursday and I’m not seeing them. Were y’all too busy to put them on DTRPG, or just too busy to flip the switch that makes them available to the public? πŸ™‚

  6. I just looked at the info on Deviant the ?, it looks like it’s going to be amazing. I would certainly kickstart this one.

  7. I love that cover. Probably my favourite RPG book ever, if only for the look. The way the face fades into the skull gets me every time.

      • My copy of Promethean: the Created (first edition, needless to say) was kinda beat-up when I purchased it, but I didn’t notice until much later, due to how well the creases fit that image… I kinda thought it was actually PART of the cover treatment! I say this as a testament to its greatness, of course. Also, a few scars TOTALLY increase the book’s street cred, yeah?

  8. We’re more than a year past the projected completion date for Wraith 20, is there a new projected date? Thanks for the great games, and good luck at GenCon!

  9. I know you do not like to give estimates, but I would thing the Exalted printer may be more likely to have some estimates.

Any idea on when all the interiors will be complete as well as when the final product will be done?

    • If we were going to KS it, we’d do that before we put the Advance PDF up for sale. No plans for a CtL2 KS, but after that, the future is yet to be written.

      Reply
    • I personally don’t have the links, but there are probably a hundred MtG sites that you can look up cards by artist on. Thanks!

      Reply
        • Did that very thing for the artists anniversary book, and redid one of the Stuffy Doll cards. Think it was The Wrack. Generally, there’s a technique alteration that might be good for some cards (going from the watercolor/line style to the opaque paint style that I’m using now), or a redo in any medium because the composition or color scheme or underlying drawing no longer matches up with how I’d do the piece now. But you can drive yourself nuts trying to “fix” your older work, and now the art for the cards, warts and all, are really important to a lot of people as they are. So changing them seems a bit, to me, as a bit of vanity.

What I am working on, which was a bit of a surprise, are Token card illustrations in the old style. So if you liked Wall of Water, for example, I’m using the same kind of imagery from that for the new art for the Blue Elemental Token card.

  10. I don’t remember is that has already been said, so, sorry if it has but, will Promethean 2 be a limited release as well? 7 books or will it be continuously developped?

BTW, I am happy either way. Just curious.

    Reply
    • We’re not really working off a limited/unlimited publishing model. If a line sells and we have a cool idea for a book in that line, we’ll get it OK’d and put it together.

      Reply
  11. Hold the presses. Stop everything. WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT!

How have I missed the annoucement of the Bunyip tribe book? (Or forgot it was coming?) And who do I thank for that?

Man! Onyx Path is just too darn awesome!

    Reply
    • The brochure says it is. Also, the brochure reveals the full title of Deviant: The Renegades, and claims that Miracles of the Solar Exalted (which I take, from its description, to be the Ex3 backer Charms book) is already available.
