Monday Notes: I didn’t do very well at my video game and also I have perforated my left eardrum. Again.
Well, that’s accurate for my Monday notes, technically, but that’s because we didn’t have a meeting today! (The above things were not caused by lack of meeting, I don’t think, but if I perforate my eardrum next time we don’t have one I’m considering blaming someone internally.)
I know it’s odd, as we usually have these every single Monday, but this week we had a slew of vacations, appointments, and other sundry things that meant over half the team couldn’t be there. Without us, you know, updating each other on what was new, it wouldn’t have been a very good meeting.
I did manage to note that the Trinity Continuum: Aether Kickstarter is chugging along, even though we’re still in that muddy middle bit of most crowdfunding campaigns. As I’m typing this, we’re just over 900 backers, and I hope we get to 1k soon!
Oh, and here’s another of our MST3K spots for They Came from Beneath the Sea! This one is my personal favorite, so if you’ve seen it already, I won’t get mad if you watch it again.
I’m personally pumped that it’s Scarred Lands month, especially because it means we got to play it for a few upcoming Pathcasts, and we were allowed to start at level 10! This also means there are 90%-off sales on over at our usual venues, which I think is an incredible deal.
Also, we did Gen Con Online last week, where we had our usual What’s Up With Onyx Path? panel, along with a Storypath Q&A and a panel about our 5e games. All of those were on our Twitch and will eventually be on YouTube, so keep an eye out if you missed them! I’m sure we’ll have a more in-depth report about Gen Con Online soon, but I had an absolute blast on the panels and always love seeing people get excited about our work. In the Storypath one, we dropped a few new tidbits on The World Below and Storypath Ultra, so check out the VoD for more information
I honestly don’t know how Rich finds things to talk about in these every single week, because about here is where I start slowing down. I mean, I guess I could have gone the Eddy route and set Rich’s house on fire (see MMN from June 27), but that seemed a bit extreme for this bit. Therefore, my medicated self (but not self-medicated) shall drop a final piece of art to show off and then get to to the part you’ve all scrolled past this to look at!
There we go, art is all lovely and previewed so I can say:
TEN YEARS, MANY WORLDS, ONE PATH!
BLURBS!
KICKSTARTER/CROWDFUNDING!
Trinity Continuum: Aether is live on Kickstarter until Thursday, August 18th, at 2pm EDT!
Back it here!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/trinity-continuum-aether-tabletop-roleplaying-game
For some of our previous backers, the indomitable James sent out a small peek into what TC: Aether is about. And now you can see it as well!
Call it what it was: hubris, arrogance, a collective delusion of grandeur… We thought we were the only beings in this universe and that with our grand intellect and glorious empires we were the best humanity would ever be.
And then came Aether.
And along with Aether came mental expansion, form mutation, matter warping, time manipulation, and the discovery of new worlds, new peoples, new and terrifying possibilities.
And with Aether came the doom of humankind. Aether brought the Martians to our world, and the unraveling of the reality we knew.
Aether is a full rule and setting expansion for the Trinity Continuum line of games, set in the year 1895, at a time when humanity has conquered its own world, and now seeks to conquer the limitations imposed on us by the laws of all the sciences known to our kind. Inside, you will find:
- A complete Victorian-era setting and Paths for characters to embark upon within it.
- Aether powers allowing you to manipulate fate, space, time, and even your own bodies in wondrous and horrifying ways.
- Societies both lawful and rogue, looking to leave their imprint on the world, from those in league with Mina Harker to those affiliated with Dr. Jekyll and Moriarty.
- Storyguide advice, secrets, hooks, and plots, to enable you to start your game of Aether off with a bang.

On Sale This Week!
Down in the Hole will be available in PoD! This is a modern take on a classic dungeon crawl for 5e, set in Rich Thomas’s personal setting, the Crossroads Continent!
I’ve played through part of this (and edited the whole thing) and I can say it’s a straightforward, yet interesting dungeon crawl for starting characters, levels 1-2 or so. There are lots of secrets and treasures for characters to uncover if they choose, or they can just run through and fight monsters, fall down loose rocks, and have at least one strange encounter with a fish.
You can definitely also drop this into any established 5e setting and run it just fine, as it being in the Crossroads Continent isn’t necessary to enjoy the adventure. Since it’s me writing today and not Rich, I can say I highly recommend this book!*
*To be fair, I highly recommend most of our books, but it often feels weird to do if you’re the one who wrote it.
Conventions!
Because dates for physical conventions are subject to change due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, we don’t yet have a list of upcoming physical conventions. Instead, keep an eye out here for more virtual conventions we’re going to be involved with!
Game Night With Onyx Path Publishing at Start.Playing are the last Fridays of the month! Please spread the word about GMing and playing games as much as possible! Details on how to list a game are at the bottom of the page in the FAQ, and our next event is August 26th, so you’ve got some time!:

Tabletop Scotland is due to take place on 27th and 28th August 2022 and will play host to at least four Onyx Pathers running our games and sitting on panels live and there in the room with you! If you’re UK or Europe based, it’s an excellent con to visit and within traveling distance from Edinburgh, which takes flights from a lot of places! Consider paying Tabletop Scotland a visit. https://tabletopscotland.co.uk/
And now, the new project status updates!
Our full list of projects will be available monthly on our blog! Check out July’s full list report here: https://theonyxpath.com/release-roundup-july-2022/
DEVELOPMENT STATUS FROM EDDY
Here are the projects that moved to the next stage of production:
First Draft
They Came From – They Came from Beneath My Bed!
- Matthew: Time for the They Came From players to get some goosebumps, as the range of youthful Camp Murder Lake-esque Archetypes expands and our stories turn to evil piano teachers, cameras that erase people, and parents who turn into plants.
Development
TC Aberrant – From the Shadows
- Eddy: The final drafts of our Aberrant espionage book have all rolled in, so now it’s off to development!
Manuscript Approval
They Came From – They Came from the Danger Zone!
- Matthew: The Clone, the Combat Master, the Cop, the Commando, and the Cyborg march into the office of one Richard Thomas, a real ball buster, seeking approval. But you just know that if he throws paperwork at them, tries to take away their badges and guns, and reads them the riot act, they’re going to go rogue.
Scion – Scion High
- Eddy: The final drafts were quick, and I had some great discussions with the writer, so this is now off to approval!
Editing
TC Adventure – Danger Skies! (was Thrilling Tales)
- Eddy: Our stretch goal adventure for Adventure! went through a quick development pass, so now it’s off to editing as we work on art notes!

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!
As someone whose love of musicals was initiated mostly by Disney films and whatever VHS tapes we had growing up, I am saddened today to learn that Dame Olivia Newton-John, of Grease, Xanadu, and “Physical” fame passed away today.
I mean, to be honest she was probably also the first woman I saw wearing a cute leather jacket with an all-black outfit on TV, and I turned out to be a goth-y weirdo…so yeah, it was formative.
In (slightly) less depressing news, it’s been four years since the release of Wraith20, which was a beast of a book to edit, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
*sees Kith and Kin progress* WOO YEAH BAYBEE THAT’S WHAT I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THATS WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT WOOOO
Storypath Ultra?
It’s the current name for our refined version of Storypath that we’ll be using in The World Below. We talk about it quite a bit in our Gen Con Storypath Q&A, which just went on YouTube! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u52K_kfQYOk
That’s five books coming my way from kickstarters which look very close. An embarrassment of riches. I’m particularly keen for Kith and Kin to land. Feels like we’ve all been waiting a very long time for that one to make its way free from the Hedge.
Kith and Kin and Book of Lasting Death… be still my CoD fan heart!
Which KS was Scion: Saints and Monsters the character companion for?
None of them! It’s a separate project.
Thank you! I thought I missed something on backerkit ??
