Yep! The Trinity Continuum: Anima Kickstarter crossed over to Funded in about seven hours last week, so we’re all thrilled that this cool new game – I mean it’s two games in one – is now crossing Stretch Goals off its list!
We just crossed past this Stretch Goal: the Terra Surge specific Reference Screen – “A three-panel Storyguide Reference Screen with charts and information for running a game set in the virtual world of Terra Surge will be created and offered as an Add On to any hardcover reward tiers.”
And so it is!
We also just went past 680 backers, which is delightful, and we’d sure like to add you and your gaming friends to that total! TC: Anima is the first full new era of the Trinity Continuum, and so doesn’t have a previous edition’s worth of lore and fans – it needs folks to check it out in order to demonstrate just how cool it is!
So please do pass around this link to the KS:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/trinity-continuum-anima-tabletop-roleplaying-game
And if you can use a teaser to tickle folk’s curiosity, here’s the third of our teasers we released a little over a week ago:
Now, with all the talk these last few weeks and now the Kickstarter starting to release the text to backers and previews for everybody, folks are going to start having a pretty good idea of all the fantastic material in the book. The city of Cascade with its “cyberpunk” feel, and the Terra Surge MMO that so many people in the game world are obsessed with. The Glass implant, and the secrets of the setting.
So I thought that today I’d touch on a bigger-picture aspect of TC: Anima: the fact that the setting exists within the Trinity Continuum and just what that means. First of all, it means that the setting “era” it covers does work on a timeline that a lot of fans of the previous edition’s three games will recognize:
We see that it fits between our old favorites TC: Aberrant and TC: Aeon, and when working on the project we had Trinity Continuum Content Lead Ian Watson there taking his ideas – no doubt things he considered during the “Empty Years” between the last edition and when we at Onyx Path started working on this new edition – and weaving them into the timeline so that TC: Anima could fit right there.
Yes, it could, or the nature of the concept of the Continuum is that it might not be there. Or it could be but TC: Aberrant isn’t there. Or none of the other settings we’ve released so far. They’re all bubbles floating along through time and are connected only so long as it works for you at your table. You can look into the book itself and make similar alterations: maybe it’s not Terra Surge that everyone is playing, maybe it’s Grand Theft Auto XXXI, or that MMO you made up years ago on paper!
You know the one I mean. Reread your notes, it actually was pretty good!
Our objective is to give both you and ourselves the freedom to add what we think would be fun and cool to the Trinity Continuum line, but without needing to rationalize every element for each setting because it needs to fit the other ones – both earlier and later eras. The through-lines remain: some form of the Aeon Society, the themes of Hope, Sacrifice, Unity. These, as well as other elements that thread through the books, are all important towards our main thrust for the Trinity Continuum: it is a series of settings where the universe rewards attempts to alter the status quo.
This is great for a TTRPG, as the ability to “change the world” is a heady reason to get out there and do stuff, and actually succeed at it.
Which is not to say that everybody playing is playing a Big Damn Hero, although the world does reward that, and to prove that, right on time, we have the next Trinity Continuum setting book: TC: Assassin. Where, as the title suggests, you play killers plying their trade in the shadows of the Trinity Continuum Core standard world.
Trinity Continuum: Assassin isn’t going to be up as a Kickstarter project, instead, you’ll be able to Pre-Order it from DriveThruRPG very soon! Because this is such a fantastic spin on the TC Core, and has the potential to do well wherever we put it, I think we’ll be able to get it out into people’s hands faster as a Pre-Order than we could do by any other means.
I’ll let you know about it here, we’ll announce it and share the links on our many social media venues, when it is time to launch the Pre-Order page. Keep your senses alert to every footfall, and you won’t miss it!
Yay, TC: Anima, and Then We Talked About…
We talked a fair bit about our schedules over Thanksgiving, and as usual, some of us are taking some time off, others are going to use the holiday to get more work done, and a bunch of us are doing both. Or at least that’s the plan(s).
Some big welcome news is that the Trinity Continuum: Aberrant community content tools are ready to go live on Wednesday, and the TC: Aberrant part of the Storypath Nexus Community Content site is opening up next week (the week after this one, not the week today is in).
I know a lot of TC: Aberrant fans have lots of ideas for additional material for the game line, so I hope you’ll use the templates and get some projects knocked together before we go live so you can be among the first Novas to burst upon the scene!
Seriously, it’s a great opportunity to get your work out there, and to get paid for doing it, too!
DTRPG‘s Wolfenoot Sale is, unfortunately, almost over and because of the way info flowed last week, I wasn’t able to let folks know about the huge savings on Pugmire and other canine-oriented PDFs in the sale.
Sorry for that, but do check out the last day of the Wolfenoot Sale!
https://www.drivethrurpg.com/promo.php?manufacturers_id=4261 with 1 day left as of this writing!
I let the gang know that not only have I been reading the script for the pilot pitch for the Scion TV show, but also the scripts for the promos that will be running on MST3K when it begins its new season next year. They are hilarious and I can’t wait until you see how they turn out!
We talked a bit about how much we’ve been enjoying putting together the monthly Tasty Bits PDFs, and whether to continue them all throughout next year. They really do give us a chance to highlight elements of our games, and they are excellent for mixing and matching into other Storypath (or other) games.
This discussion came out of last Friday’s Onyx Pathcast where Dixie, Eddy, and Matthew reviewed our recent releases. It was both a grand overview of the most recent projects we’ve put out, as well as providing lots of insider info on how they were made. You can hear that on your favorite Podcast venue, and, as always, on Podbean:
It’s well worth a listen as they hit all sorts of our various gamelines, which is what you want: coverage of our:

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!
On Thursday we celebrate Thanksgiving here in the US. I get it that folks have mixed feelings about this holiday – everything from awful family get-togethers to the stories we were told about the people who held the first Thanksgiving, why they held it, and what actually happened (and when). There’s a lot there to be legitimately pissed off and uncomfortable about. Which is all the more reason, I think, to hold to the concept behind this holiday – giving thanks for the good stuff, and even the not so good stuff that we still got through. Because there is good stuff, always. There are good people that you know. Maybe not paragons of ideal virtue, but who is?! But they try, and you try, and we all deserve to celebrate that. But watch out for that deep-frying turkey stuff – boom!
Hey Richt, any plans for an exalted sheet construction app? Maybe even a kickstarter? The game becomes complicated quickly and it’s hard to take everything on account.
Not really something we can do – that sort of stuff would need to be handled by Paradox, we are licensed to do the books. I do agree that gaming aids are fantastic and it’s why we are pushing forward with character sheet apps with our VTT venues for the games we actually can make them for. That being said, did you find Exalted Essence to be in need of the same gaming aids, as its complication level has been much reduced?
I’ve been away for half a year playing d20, and the app resources are great. This is certainly worth pitch a project for the paradox overlords. And I’ve been hype ever since I saw the world of darkness nexus trailer with the digital toolset.
I’ll probably wait until the essence is released and someone makes a game review. Everything I’ve heard seems to be exalted light and it’s kind of weird to me, as I really like the mechanics and options of the 3rd edition.
Love seeing Exigents is getting closer to it’s Kickstarter! And that Across the Eight Directions is steadily moving through development.
I am thrilled, as well!
When Assassins finally is available for pre-order, what is the guesstimate of when it would be released? Like 4 weeks? 2 months? I get that things can arise. I also get that what you say is not a definite, but do you guys have an idea?
This was just the teaser for the Pre-Order. You’ll get more involved info once we get the Pre-Order page up, plus insert our usual disclaimer about not setting release dates and all that…
You know, a friend and I had the idea to make nWoD (1st edition, so quite some time ago) characters who were playing a VR MMO which would use D&D 4E as its “engine.” Too bad we never got it off the ground, 4E would have worked well as the MMO, I think.
Nice! TC: Anima might give you the framework to revisit that very cool idea. The MMO rules are simplified towards MMO-logic, if that makes sense, as a lot of folks described D&D4 as being, so there’s a similar line of thinking there.
After reading of Nightfall Games issues with starting a new KS due to tightening of restrictions on unfulfilled campaigns in EN World after running into a limit of 3, I was wondering if Onyx Path is going to have issues with that?
So far, no issues. We’ll see as we get out of this year and into 2022. Thanks!
I’m curious to know when the Proteus compendium will move out of the editing stage. Thanks in advance!
Our procedure is to show where things are — each project is unique, so the time they could spend at each stage varies. So we can’t give you an ETA, but if you keep an eye on the weekly status update, you’ll be able to see when it moves into the next stage.
