Charming Alchemicals! [Monday Meeting Notes]

As the Exalted: Alchemicals BackerKit crowdfunding campaign is into its second week, we’ve been releasing sections of the book text containing sets of Charms for these “mechanoid” Exalted. There are a lot of them, of course, but folks seems to be enjoying the staggered release of the Charms – maybe because it gives folks a chance to review them.

I dunno, but the response has been great and very helpful and constructive – so THANKS to all you backers who have been commenting all over social media and on the campaign’s Comments section!

Please keep letting our team know your thoughts, and especially send in any feedback using the official form so they can get everything all in one place!

Here’s a note from Danielle:

I normally don’t take as strong a role in development on an Exalted core book as I ended up doing with Alchemicals. Our developers, Chazz Kellner and Robert Vance are both super skilled, but needed some help figuring out how to structure and present the setting information for Autochthonia. I understand the difficulty, as the setting for Alchemicals is both rooted in the trappings of Exalted, but entirely outside of Creation. There’s a ton of information not only on how the people live inside a titanic machine that is a god, but also the environment itself and how to tell stories within it. Understanding the people helps understand the Alchemicals themselves, letting you know what you’re going to be doing in the game. But understanding the people requires understanding the environment. We went back and forth on what parts should come first, and what was necessary to give context to other parts. We eventually settled on something I think flows well and gives some very fun setting and story hooks in the world and makes Alchemicals probably the most unique of all the Exalted games.

And if you haven’t yet backed, we’d sure love it if you could join us in Autocthonia!

I Just Got In From Pittsburgh, and BOY Are My Arms Tired!

Not referring to the old joke, I actually did just drive back from the Eternal Weekend convention in Pburg which was my first ever US Magic card signing event. Four days of autographing the cards I did art for, doing sketches, and generally talking with the super-nice people at the con.

Really nice time, very different than my normal day-to-day experience, but, yeah, pretty brain dead right now. Just got in in time for our Monday Meeting, though, so we could cover ongoing Onyx Path stuff, like the Alchemicals campaign, ongoing books, and more.

Speaking of conventions: next week we’ll have a booth, #4359 at PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia that we’re devoting to running demo games of Curseborne, and handing out info including special cards that include the link to the CB Backerkit page for folks to order their copies now that the Kickstarter is almost a month behind us!

Hard to believe!

Here’s a map of the hall and we went all the way in the corner so we can hopefully demo more dramatically. Plus, you’ll still be able to buy our stuff at the Studio2 booth as we’ve been doing at recent conventions!

We have a few sales going this week as Black Friday looms, with our ongoing IPR Dark Eras sale, plus CofD Screens and Pugmire/Mau books, screens, and dice 50% off at Studio 2, and the DTRPG/Roll20 Black Friday Sale starts this week, too!

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!

This Thursday in the US is our Thanksgiving holiday – and so let’s celebrate the sentiment behind that! Giving thanks, in general, is a great way to really look into your past year and see those sparkly bits that shine out even if all around them is utter darkness. Or not – maybe you just like football (US), eating turkey, or the MST3K Turkey Day Marathon! That’s how I got into MST3K years ago, and it’s been a lot of fun since then – including working with Joel to fine-tune the They Came From Beneath the Sea! ads that appeared on the show a couple of years ago, as it’s always a joy to watch (and participate with) a master doing his thing!

  1. “M20 Forbidden and Forgotten Orders – Art is all in except the splats.”

Mr. Thomas, can you tell me what “splats” mean in this context?

    Reply
    • The art for the character types, usually full body illustrations with very minimal backgrounds. Also could be called “template characters” in our notes.
