I really like this illustration by Andrew Hepworth, but didn’t get a chance to feature it during our just finished Buried Treasures crowdfunder, so here it is now! Yep, the BackerKit crowdfunding campaign for Secrets of Kalm and Kaos and also for The Delver’s Guide, both important books for The World Below, finished up last Thursday, so they are done and done!
This was a different kind of crowdfunding campaign as the monies raised are earmarked for both getting a little more art for the books to complement the cool visuals already revealed during the campaign, and mostly to fund the Stretch Goal big adventure: The Advent of Silt!
Thanks to everybody who pledged and sent in comments and errata: Matthew is already going through those comments for tweaks to the manuscripts, and hey, speaking of Matthew: he’s here with some wrap-up thoughts about the books and the Buried Treasures campaign:
Thank you to everyone who supported The Delver’s Guide and Secrets of Kalm and Kaos for The World Below! Hitting over $16k on a crowdfunder for PDF and Print on Demand books is a pretty big achievement. Now comes time to review and incorporate changes from the crowdfunder feedback and get the amended manuscripts over to our art director for review, so we can finalise our art buy and start on layout.
The main takeaway I’ve made from the discussion surrounding these books is that people love to find connections between The World Below and the other games in the Earthbane Cycle. I’d be very interested to see what links people discovered that connect these books to At the Gates and Monster Kingdoms, and what links you would put in to make those connections for your campaigns. I know people spotted the dreadnaut armor in the manuscript, but what else lurks in there?
Otherwise, it’s been spectacular to see my local gaming groups using this material to create new characters using the new Callings and Dialectics. As mentioned elsewhere, the Soulweaver is a definite favourite, and players seem to love their creepy, oozing Ichori. I don’t know what it is that attracts players to gunk and slime, but people seem to enjoy playing amorphous characters.
Once again, a big thank you to everyone who helped us with this campaign. I’ve heard of adventures using the Obscura and Fadeward, new stories involving fishing minigames, crafting, and games of WAR!, and a settlement rising to crush Mud Town once and for all (they don’t deserve it, but roleplayers do like to burn things down). Let us know how you’re using the material in your games!
Thanks, Matthew! And again, thanks to everyone who jumped in to back this! It was a fun double campaign, I thought, and the last-minute rush of pledges was both surprising and gratifying!

A new Bundle of Holding, this time for Scion, launched today with a lot of great deals for Scion PDFs, so if you have some books you’ve been thinking of filling your collection with, or if you’ve ever considered getting into Scion: this is the time and place!

There is also a Fantasy Grounds Sale for PDFs/VTT stuff for Scarred Lands running for a few more days!
And since we’re speaking of Scarred Lands, here’s Travis Legge to let you in on the newest exciting Savage Worlds (SWADE) version of a Scarred Lands project:
Scarred Lands Creature Collection 1 (SWADE) in Advance PDF!
A Land Where Legends Walk
Drawing enthusiastically on Greek mythology, Scarred Lands offers a world shaped by gods and monsters. Only the greatest of heroes can expect to be counted among them. The Divine War left the world of Scarn ravaged. From the battle-scarred continent of Ghelspad to the desert wastelands of Asherak, the wounds of war still fester. The jungles of Termana are corrupted by titanic influence. The Blood Sea is tinted red because the titan Kadum lies bleeding at the ocean floor. The Dragon Lands and the frozen north of Fenrilik were spared the worst of the Titanswar, yet these lands carry their own perils.
Scarred Lands Creature Collection 1 (SWADE) gathers all monsters & NPCs presented in the Spiragos Trilogy as well as those covered in the 2025 Scarred Lands Creature Profiles. This volume presents updated and expanded information on dozens of entries, providing you with over 140 stat blocks ready to be dropped into your Savage Worlds campaign.
Scarred Lands Creature Collection 1 (SWADE) includes:
- Game traits and setting information for over 65 monsters.
- Over 60 NPCs.
- New Powers.
- Edges and Hindrances used in the NPC traits.

I mentioned last week that I sensed a strange disturbance. That weird and scary manifestations would be, uh, manifesting in the Onyx Path vid space. And lo and behold, this showed up:
What does this mean, this pesky teasing teaser? Is that a Sorcerer of some kind? A Hyde preparing a transformation potion – or an elixir that holds back transformations? Or…something else? Why is it labelled “Sacrifice”?
I ain’t tellin’

We’re still awaiting news that the US-bound Exalted Exigents books have arrived in port; hopefully on Wednesday. But shipping delays do seem to happen all the time, so fingers crossed. From there to Studio2 and from them to backers! One step at a time in this topsy-turvy world right now.
Which is very much how our processes are working, too. Get this part done, get the next part done, and so on, and so on…
And sometimes, make sure something gets even more done! I’m adding in Knacks and Boons and the like into the Pandora’s Box PDF thanks to all of you Advance PDF purchasers who pointed out missing ones! And then that’ll go out to the devs for review. So maybe a little longer on waiting for the PoD, but a lot more complete!
Yep, one step at a time. One step out of many to get to our:

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!
Happy birthday to Akira Kurosawa (March 23, 1910 – September 6, 1998), my favorite Japanese filmmaker, who directed 30 feature films in a career spanning six decades. With a bold and dynamic style strongly influenced by Western cinema and other media yet distinct from it, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. Known as a hands-on filmmaker, he was heavily involved with all aspects of his productions as a director, writer, concept artist, producer, and editor. Kurosawa directed approximately one film per year throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, including a number of highly regarded and often adapted films, starting with Rashomon (1950). including Ikiru (1952), Seven Samurai (1954), Throne of Blood (1957), The Hidden Fortress (1958), Yojimbo (1961), High and Low (1963), and Red Beard (1965). He became much less prolific after the 1960s, though his later work—including two of his final films, Kagemusha (1980) and Ran (1985)—continued to receive critical acclaim. In 1990, he accepted the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement. In his acceptance speech, he famously said “I’m a little worried because I don’t feel that I understand cinema yet.”
did not see the Seattle / cities book in the above. is that because there was just no New notes about it? It’s certainly one of the books I am most excited for
That is correct, you only see a book listed when we have movement during the previous week that puts it into the next stage. There is plenty of internal progress of one sort or the other, but we don’t get that fine with the detail for this weekly report. If you want to see all of the books being worked on at whatever stage they are at, check out Ian’s Monthly Roundup. Thanks!
