I Only Need Two Things: Dragons and Cthulhu! [Monday Meeting Notes]

Of course, I’m referring to our current Kickstarter for Scion: Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos, which is still going strong not quite two weeks in!

Over 1600 wonderful backers so far (Huge Thanks to each and every one of you!), and 17 Stretch Goals achieved! In fact, here’s a list Impish Ian Watson presented in his January wrap-up post. (I’ll be stealing more of Ian’s post a little later, so stay tuned).

  • Dragon Companion: Another book to accompany Scion: Dragon that contains sections unlocked by Stretch Goals during the Kickstarter for creating your own Flight, The Bearers (giant turtles), Greater Wyrms
  • Mythos Companion: Another book to accompany Scion: Masks of the Mythos that contains sections unlocked by Stretch Goals during the Kickstarter for additional Mythos creatures, Great Old Ones, Legacy characters, new fiction, Y’ha-nthlei, and the Elderian home planet.
  • Dragon Reference Screen
  • Dragon Jumpstart including Dragon Ready-Made Characters, x2
  • Mythos Reference Screen
  • Dragon backer shirt
  • Mythos backer shirt
  • Dragon desktop wallpaper

Oh, and the symbols heading off our MMN blog today, those are the overall Mythos symbol and the symbol for the Draq Dragon Flight (Dragon‘s version of Pantheons). I had a lot of fun creating these symbols after years of making the Pantheon ones.

In a way, it was actually harder to design them as their cultural references, when they had them, were a lot less focused than those for our real-world myths that came out of actual human cultures.

But much like the Pantheons, I was trying to make a striking image first – something that would present what would be cool for players to enjoy, rather than creating some sort of cultural icon. Hope that they work that way when you look at them!

While that Kickstarter is running, we continue to prep for the next ones. One of those, but not the next, is the Kickstarter for the long-awaited pulp-genre addition to the Trinity Continuum: Adventure! If you remember, we ran a multi-part web-comic in the month leading up to TC: Aberrant, and we wanted to have another fun lead-in for TC: Adventure!.

We considered a pulp magazine story, with b&w illustrations and all that, but that was sort of the look for Adventure!‘s first edition. It’s not a bad idea, but I was looking for another way to present a TC: Adventure lead-in story.

It has always seemed to me that podcasts like Welcome To Nightvale are very much following a grand tradition of the great old radio series that were such an important part of people’s lives before the onset of television. Which led to asking: what better way to give the feel of 1930’s media than to do our own radio drama?!

So starting on Wednesday, we will release a weekly serial episode – short, like many of them were – for six weeks as we lead up to the Trinity Continuum: Adventure! Kickstarter.

Here is some info from our legendary lead writer of Tales of the Aeon Society!: Mr. Eddy Webb:

Follow along as Max Mercer, a cunning daredevil with extraordinary luck, leads an amazing group of daring humans known only as the Aeon Society. These heroes travel all over the world to investigate strange phenomena, right wrongs, and protect the innocent.

This week’s episode: Deadly Eclipse!

Who are the Aeon Society? What is going on with the strange eclipse? And what has Doctor Primoris discovered?

Written by Eddy Webb
Directed by Drew Profit and Austin Beach
Sound Design and Production by Austin Beach
Musical Score by Dayn Leonardson

Cast (in order of appearance)
* Narrator, played by Austin Beach
* Max Mercer, played by Drew Profit
* Helen Perkins, played by Jessica Rainville
* Dr. Primoris, played by Mike Janson
* Danger Ace, played by Dayn Leonardson

Tales of the Aeon Society! Available every Wednesday wherever your favorite podcasts are found, and absolutely on our site on Podbean!

And Then We Talked About Stuff:

During our Monday Meeting today, a lot of what we discussed was prep for our Onyx Path Summit on Wednesday. Not surprisingly, the snack boxes Lisa and I sent everybody so our attendees could nosh while we met were a big topic, as our team summoned the peer pressure to wait until the meeting to consume the treats.

Like I mentioned last week, we normally make the OPSummit a face-to-face physical meeting, but… well, you know. This year, it’s not happening that way. So snacks and Zoom (or Discord), instead.

What won’t change is that we’ll be reviewing last year, looking at what is in the pipeline for this year, and setting plots and plans in place as we prognosticate the next couple of years. A few things have already popped up in January that will change how we look at the next year – in good ways, don’t worry!

Mummy: The Curse 2e art by Vince Locke

We’ll be including Ian’s wrap-up of 2020 from Dec 31st in our discussions so it’s worth checking out if you missed it, and here’s some of his look back on January, 2021:

I feel like I say this every month, but what a wild month this has been.

Sales

Storytellers Vault had a Dark History sale, with special offers on Onyx Path’s Dark Ages and Dark Eras titles!

DriveThruComics had an Art of/Making of Sale, which includes four from Onyx Path:

Kickstarter Update

The following community-created content for Storypath has been added to the Storypath Nexus in the last month:

I reprint this here, because this was actually a light month for us, and sometimes it is great to see the whole forest even when you’re looking for your favorite specific tree.

Mummy: The Curse 2e art by Brian LeBlanc

Like I mentioned, some things we had expected to resolve in 2020 were actually resolved in January this year. One of those I can let you folks know about is that we received the OK from Paradox to pitch or re-pitch projects for Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition. A bunch of pitches for M20 projects are now in their hands.

Which feels pretty great, I have to say. More news to come as the year gets really revved up, and we get the opportunity to create more projects for our many, many,

Many Worlds, One Path!

Virtual TableTop!

Two Virtual Tabletop adventures: the Gauntlet of Spiragos and the Dagger of Spiragos for Scarred Lands on Astral TableTop and DriveThruRPG!

Scars of the Divine War, which ended less than 200 years ago, have still not healed. One such scar is the Chasm of Flies, a rent in the earth created when the titan Spiragos the Ambusher was smote down by one of the young gods, Vangal the Ravager. Now, the Chasm is inhabited by spider-eye goblins and their spider allies, but it is also thought to be the resting place of powerful artifacts from that elder age.

Astral TableTop is the easiest way to play any tabletop RPG online, free. Astral already supports popular systems like D&D and Pathfinder, and Astral can support virtually any tabletop roleplaying game. Get started quickly with built-in support for most popular game systems. Whether you’re brand new to TTRPGs or a veteran tabletop gamer, Astral‘s ease-of-use and built in automation is designed to streamline gameplay.

Astral is browser-based and uses the latest technology to streamline your storytelling experience. Connect with your party online and run your campaigns however you like. Astral offers tools optimized for phone, tablet, and desktop devices, no installation required.

Build epic battlemaps using Astral‘s enormous collection of scenery, props, and tokens or upload your own. Pro users gain access to over 12,000+ assets and fresh new packs every month. Add weather, visual effects, triggers, and so much more with easy-to-use tools

Build your own adventure, or choose from pre-generated game kits like Gauntlet of Spiragos and Dagger of Spiragos. Create character sheets, craft maps, or just jump right in to connect with your friends and start your adventures!

  1. I cannot wait for Crucible, Exigents and Essence.

I am however enjoying the manuscripts for Scion 2E. Might run a character through gen to see…Kind of want make a Scion of Nyarly.

  2. I was really looking forward to Digital Web 3.0 for M20. I know you got a piece of it into the Technocracy Operative’s Dossier, but I would really like to see us get the rest of the book as originally planned.

    Reply
    • OK, well that wasn’t a piece of some longer book we’ve already created. It’s the M20 take on the Digital Web at this time, and if our creators come up with an expanded pitch that looks good then we’ll consider an additional book. Thanks!

  3. Hello!
we who kickstarted the Cult of teh BLood Gods for V5, when will we get our copies now that the plebs who did not KS it can buy it on Drivethru as they please?

    Reply
    • We publish three ways: PDFs, Print On Demand books – both via DriveThruRPG- and traditionally printed books, either the kind we then put into stores or Deluxe editions. You backed a Kickstarter to create a traditionally printed book, and at the time we were unable to offer a PoD option like we did with V5 Chicago By Night and our other non-V5 KS projects. Things changed as work on the traditionally printed book continued, and we were given the OK to create a PoD version of Blood Gods as well as the books coming out of its KS as Stretch Goals.

Due to restrictions and complications because of Covid, we and our printers have had all sorts of schedule delays – which means that the traditionally printed book has taken longer than planned. It should have been in your hands in 2020. We’re sorry about that, it’s as frustrating for us as it must be for all of our backers.

But, one of the reasons that we put PoD options in most of our KSs is so that backers can choose, if they want, to buy a PoD version if they can’t wait for the nice traditionally printed book that they backed for to go through the traditional print process and then the shipping process. When we first included a PoD version of V5 Cults of the Blood Gods, we made sure that backers received a link first, before it went live on DTRPG, so that any backer could take advantage of getting a PoD if they wanted to.

Meanwhile, you can see in the weekly progress report that the traditionally printed V5 Cults of the Blood Gods is with the printer going through the printing process. As that gets finished and the books are shipped to the fulfillment shippers, James will notify KS backers as to what is going on.

Hope that answers your concerns, and one other important thing about how we handle comments: I almost trashed your post because there is no need to call your fellow V5 fans “plebs”. We don’t do that here as we’re all fans, no matter how we play or buy the game.
