Labor Day +1

Our friend Eddy continues to be out, but he’s doing a lot better with the aftereffects of his ear operation, and we’ve even started sending files back and forth again. Inner ear issues: not fun.

So here is a brief smattering of where things stand with our projects- an update with little movement, but so’s you knows:

W20 Kickstarter is still waiting. I have several folks who have stepped forward with possible solutions to the high shipping cost I mentioned last week and as soon as I can get hard numbers, because the soft numbers ooze off the desk, I will be able to submit our KS with confidence that we’re doing the right thing with shipping- not too high for folks, but covering the expense so Onyx doesn’t drown in fees.

-Ethan is writing the W20 SAS called The Skinner.

– Speaking of Kickstarters: people as far away as Australia report they are getting their copies of the deluxe V20 Companion (which is also available in PDF and PoD versions on DriveThruRPG now) . Yay! There have been some folks who let me know that they got a misprinted version or similar issue, but fear not, we’ll get you out a new one as soon as I can get reasonable assurance from the shipper that everyone should have gotten their books. We have to expect some mis-shipments, so I want to be sure we have enough on hand to deal with both issues.

– And to finalize our trifecta of KS goodness: I’m actually hammering out some iPad bugs in the V20 Children of the Revolution PDF right now- I took a break to write this- so it’s very close to when that will go out to the KS backers and then to press. Matt McElroy continues to write the V20 Red List.

Blood Sorcery: we were so close to getting that out in August, but because of the holiday/con weekend craziness I’m hoping that the PoD proof gets here very soon and we can go live ASAP.

Book of Nod Restoration Edition is in a similar situation with hard copy PoD proofs flying hither and yon across the country. Sooooon.

Silent Knife, the VtR novel, is waiting for a cover and needs to go through approvals with CCP as a full product, cover and all. Really pushing for this month.

Mummy is still in layout and almost all of the art is in. Approvals, etc still await. Going to try and avoid as much overlap between it’s Kickstarter and W20’s as possible.

– Justin is wrapping up his development passes on the text of Hunters Hunted 2.

– Art is coming in for Left Handed Path for Mage and the NWO Convention Book. Layout next.

– Lots of creative folks are busy writing W20 Changing Breeds and Rage Across the World, the God Machine Chronicles Anthology and gamebook, and the Strix Chronicle Anthology.

– I’ve been having status report meetings with our devs- Holden on Exalted 3rd, some other folks on Scion and Trinity, and will continue to chat up more awesome devs this week on future project plans. I also owe the EX3 team sketches of the sig characters. They’re coming! Really!

So lots of stuff is getting done, and lots of stuff is in progress, but we still keep slipping schedule-wise as I mentioned during our Gen Con talks. Something we’re really trying to catch back up on.

Reason to Get Drunk: Trying to juggle all these great projects πŸ™‚

    • You got what we have to give- there’s not a lot to share right now as basic ideas of timing and scope are really what we’re discussing. Don’t worry, there will be more on both Scion and the Trinity Continuum.

  1. Really appreciate the rolling updates, even if there’s only a step forward on a project between them. Thanks very much and get well soon Eddy!

  2. Thank you on the update of W20. I really hope that the shipping issues from V20 Companion are being addressed (remember to remind your new shipper: in the UK, “Books” might have a lower VAT than “Merchandise”, but mid-marking them as “Gifts” should be a no-no.)

Is there any chance that W20 Changing Breeds will get any sort of Open Development, Q/A , Input process, or will it pretty much just be presented to us in the old-fashioned “Take it as it comes” sort of way with maybe a few previews to get us enticed before it’s released? I think Holden was giving a little info and taking some suggestions un-officially, but I was just curious if I should look forward to anything other than just forking over my own money to get the book. πŸ™‚

W20 SAS is getting written, I see (both here, and with Ethan’s own blog posting), but my hope is that when it’s run at Atlanta by Night, players and STs will come back with feedback and hopefully be able to add to its contents before its put to publishing–with W20 likely not hitting the proverbial “shelves” until December, do you think this is likely? Might there be an official “input” section somewhere (development blog, forums, etc.) for players/STs to give their input on the SAS after AbN?

And, finally… when is your “About richt” sig here going to include “Lord God and Protector of The Onyx Path”, or something similar? πŸ˜‰ Or does that only change once you’ve made the switch over to TheOnyxPath.com’s blog server?

    • Every developer and project will have different degrees of Open Dev that they engage in, whether through preference or by the nature of the project. Stew Wilson has been blogging for Changing Breeds but has a very tight deadline wherein he has to pull the book together. As for The Skinner, if last year’s Wrecking Crew use of Dust to Dust is any indication, there will be comment forms for participants at Atlanta by Night.

And it’s all a transitional period and some things don’t need changing right now-

  3. Crossing fingers on a speedy layout to approvals to proofs on Mummy. Might have to check out the W20 Kickstart as well. Thanks for the updates.

    • Neither the regular sale PDF or the PoD will be out for a while- at least as long as it takes to prepare and go through proofs for the PoD files.

    • According to the Gen Con W20 panel (the last question asked), the public may get to purchase the PDF/PoD as early as a few weeks AFTER the KickStarter ends (so that KickStarter funders get the first crack at it, and can catch any errors that might have slipped through and be fixed before being printed. If you want the PDF earlier, I’d suggest a pledge on the KickStarter when it goes live (soon).

  4. Just woke up wondering.
With all the changes between CCP, “White Wolf” and Onyx Path Publishing happened, will there be another Grand Masquerade next year – or any year to come?

    • We sure hope so- but right now I’m looking forward to Atlanta by Night- as the name implies, it’s in ATL not NOLA, but it should be a blast and there will be lots of appearances by WW and Onyx folk.

      • Good luck in Atlanta πŸ™‚ I am sure it will be great πŸ™‚
        Would have joined if circumstances would be a bit more favorable so I’d be able to slot in a new ‘big’ travel ^^;

  5. I just got my copy of the Deluxe V20 Companion (first thoughts was “It’s really that small?”) and I’m relieved to finally have it plus the Colour V20 for my friend at last. Is there a rough ETA for when the Children of the Revolution copies will hit the printer?
