Mummy: The Art

Hi, gang. Last week, we revealed one of the most important design elements of the new game — the guild — with a sneak peak at the Su-Menent guild, called the Shepherds of the Chamber. We’re coming up on the big day now, with GenCon just a week away, so now is the time to reveal the look of Mummy. The talent on the corebook/boxed set is so strong that we can only just skim the surface in a forum like this, but here’s a glimpse at some of the cool interior art we commissioned for the game. Rather than bog down the post itself with chatter, I’ve decided to answer any questions you may have about these pieces in the comments section below. In the meantime…

Enjoy!

  1. Is that an automaton/golem/stone scarab of some kind? Its cute! I want one.

I love the look of this so far. It reminds me a lot of my favorite pieces in the old mummy games, giving off that aged, exotic feel.

  2. Since this should rightly be the first question, the interior art for the Mummy core was provided courtesy of the mighty Aaron Acevedo (illo #2, above), Abrar Aimal, James Denton, Borja Puig Linares (illos #1 and #3), Johan Lindroos, Vince Locke, Marco Mazzoni, Andy Trabbold, Cathy Wilkins, and Tyler Windham.

  3. Pic # 1

Is the grail a Relic? If applicable is the picture something that is modern day or something from the past?

    Pic # 2

Rio huh? Didn’t see that coming. A VERY wild city from what I remember from almost twenty years ago when I knew a brother and sister from there.

Something akin to Ushabti from M:tR?

  4. Also crossing fingers on Mummy Kickstart happening a week after the W20 Kickstart. Probably not going to happen but still…a person can hope.

      • Expect the worst, hope for the best or however that saying goes. πŸ™‚

A few things that didn’t make as much sense or was as clear in the earlier blog posts(things on task, the idea of time running out and ways to extend that time at consequence, etc) have gained some new context. Never purchased an SAS before but that will change for obvious reasons. Might have to try out Falling Scales 2 as well from what I’ve heard.

    • We should get a new update tommorrow sometime when the next Monday meeting goes live. Hopefully we’re into proof territory and it doesn’t take too many passes to finalize that.

  5. lack of mummy news makes me a sad panda. =( how about checking in even with just a “we’re furiously working to finish the book.” =)

  6. Whoa! I was surprised when I recognized my own city on pic #2. Even more with the portuguese caption.

Btw, I must confess that, although I find egyptian mythology cool, I wasn’t keen on a “mummy” game, but after reading the posts here… bring it on, this’ll be a great game!

  7. Hi, guys!

Sorry for the brief radio silence; this is always a crazy time of year for us, and this year happened to receive an extra helping of the crazysauce.

As you can imagine, we’re nose to grindstone trying to get Mummy into your hot little hands (and get various other OPP gears in motion). The Kickstarter is coming together, and we hope to launch that sucker in the next couple weeks — at which point, I will of course become an intolerable Internet prodder until such time as the pledge period is over.

In the meantime, I’ll see about posting another blog entry, assuming you all are interested. Most of what can be spoiled has already been teased — for the core game/set, anyway — but that doesn’t mean there’s no trouble I can get into.

  8. Please… Update… Soon… I know you’re going to talk shit about this movie, but, I just re-watched 1999’s The Mummy, and Imhotep is SO badass in that… I have this burning NEED to be a mummy, and I need this book asap. Something, anything to satiate my immortal hunger.

    • Actually, I have next to nothing against that one. (The first one. *cough*)

Will post again as soon as I can. Thanks for hanging in there, and for your kind comment above. My writers and I will settle for it being the table-top game of the year. πŸ˜€

  9. Thank you so much for your time and energy. There’s no rush, whatsoever. Sorry, I was a little drunk when I wrote that last comment. Which reminds me, I need to WATCH that first-first one. That will keep me at Ardeth Bay. *ba-dum-tish*

    • Agreed. Checking the Dev Logs, the Monday Meetings, the Forum, and DriveThru RPG before and after work every day, looking for some hint on when it will be available, is really frustrating.

      • Holy heck, I thought I was the only one who checked this site everyday. You go the extra mile, but at least I know I’m not the only one super-excited for this.

  10. Officially, I’m waiting patiently. Because I appreciate the kind of juggling act the developers are doing, and know that they will let us know any information there is when they can, and will put the game out as soon as possible.

Unofficially… I want it now! Gimme gimme gimme gimme!!!

  11. According to the Monday Meeting, layout is happening “slowly.” The fact that it is still happening doesn’t bode well for a September release. Boo-urns.

  12. Thanks, Glen. When the only wiggle room you have is time, sometimes that’s what has to give a little. And I think I can safely speak for my fellow OPPers when I say how much I appreciate folks who appreciate a commitment to quality. Makes the hard work that much sweeter.

And apologies for the relative dip in communication of late, but hey, at least it means we’re all plugging away, still trying to make our schedule projections, still trying to make sure quality never suffers. I’m not an official source for such things, but I think the Kickstarter is closing in on a finished form, and the Mummy core set isn’t far behind. We’ll miss September for full release on these things, but not by much, it looks like.

What happened? Did the pcΒ΄s crash? πŸ™

    • Truly an unfortunate series of events. We may not be thrilled at the prospect of a delay, but at least we didn’t lose any pieces. Just a matter of putting them back together.

      • Hearing that half of it is back in layout was a nice sign though. Somewhat curious what that means for the Kickstart date and proofing process since last I heard the day of the Kickstart you can get the PDF. Though I think I also heard that includes PoD. Going to have to check.

      • I Still Believe!!! I know that digital crisis was the work of evil gnomes! That’s OK though, because I know you guys immediately went and got Evil-Gnome-Repellent, right? If not I may have some spare.

For now I will be patient. I know this will be my new favorite title. Seriously, I know it.

  14. It would be nice to get some more blog updates, just to keep the flames of anticipation from, you know, dying. There has been a dearth of updates in the last two months.

  15. Yeah itΒ΄s truly dying somehow. Take the net and post at least something “new” to keep the anticipation up, is what iΒ΄d say. But then, hey – iΒ΄m still just a fanboy with no patience πŸ˜‰

  16. I don’t have any statistical evidence to point to but I have to say I was a little surprised by the number of folks @ an rpg.net What are you planning to buy? thread who said they were going to get Mummy that were not people regularly participating in the Mummy threads there.

@Cameron: I have to say, I’ve been a bit busy to keep up with all the various sites, but if that’s true, it’s certainly encouraging. Thanks for sharing.
