No Leap Year but Lots of Jumps! [Monday Meeting Notes]

Standing on the edge of February, with it being the 28th since we’re not a leap year this year. So, a short month but a merry one!

Especially merry since February is the month we celebrate the World of Darkness in our year-long 10th Anniversary celebration of all of the game worlds we have created games/books for!

Let me repeat that for those of you in the back: we will be dedicating a month per game line! We’re counting all the WoD 20th Anniversary game lines together in a single month, and will do the same for CofD, and the They Came From! games, etc.

So if we publish the game line, there will be a month where we celebrate it (and give you a chance to buy the PDFs for 10% of the normal price!)

February has been a blast, with 90% off sales of WoD20 PDFs each week and WoD focused Pathcasts and Twitch shows all month! We wrapped up the very successful M20 Lore of the Traditions KS during the month, too!

Plus, non-themed, we’ve had a lot of things happen since last week, and a lot of things happening this coming week, so rather than a focus project (or a sermon like last week!) and then notes from our Monday Meeting, I’m just going to jump from topic to topic right down the line!

First, the IPR Deluxe WoD20 sale ends at 11pm tonight!

Then, here’s a heads-up that March is going to be Cavaliers of Mars month, with sales starting in a couple of weeks after DTRPG finishes their GMs Day Sale – starting March 1st. This week, Cavs creator Rose Bailey will be talking on the Onyx Pathcast this Friday in a deep dive about the game with our Terrific Trio.

As I mentioned in the beginning of this celebratory year, we’ve tried to arrange our massive discount PDF sales to avoid coinciding with DTRPG‘s big general sales, so that’s why we’re holding the sales later in the month. Interestingly, March 19th marks the 10th anniversary of the release of the very first Cavaliers of Mars project – its Quickstart!

We’ve got even more really fun excitement at the end of the week, as Mystery Science Theater 3000 starts its newest season on Friday, March 5th via its new Gizmoplex streaming technology! Why are we more than normally hyped for this?

Well, this season Onyx Path Publishing is a sponsor of MST3K, with special emphasis on They Came From Beneath the Sea!. Make sure you watch in order to see what I mean, because it will blow your mind!

Our tentacles are reaching out in all sorts of fun ways!

For example, last week we announced that a VTT character sheet for Scion Origin and Hero is now available on Roll20, the world’s largest VTT platform!

There’s more VTT material coming for both Roll20 and the Foundry, and we’ll be letting you all know about it as they go live! There should be a way on Roll20 to let the devs know what you discover about the sheets, so please do reach out to them!

Our friends at High Level Games made a teaser announcement for a new board game based on Realms of Pugmire‘s Monarchy of Mau setting.

Over the last couple of years Adam Ziegler and Josh have been diligently working on a board game set in the Monarchies of Mau, set in the Realms of Pugmire, which is owned by @pugsteady. The game, featuring art created by @TheOnyxPath, is moving fully into the playtest portion of development and we’ll be reaching out to folks to gauge your interest in playtesting this exciting new game. We wanted to share our excitement and success with everyone. Stay on the lookout for Monarchies of Mau: The Board Game, coming soon.

Speaking of Eddy Webb, the creator of Pugmire y’know, he and “The Crunch Doctor”, Danielle Lauzon, are continuing their lunchtime chats, this time about explicit vs implicit rules and how that relates to Storypath games:

We have finalized a lot of the content for our 3rd Annual Onyx Path Virtual Gaming Convention, and I can now announce that it will be in June – so keep your eyes peeled for more info!

I’m incredibly relieved to see that KS backers are receiving their Legendlore and They Came From Beyond the Grave! books and rewards! They are the first two of six KSs we had printed all in a bunch, after quite a delay due to repercussions from Covid, and that are now getting processed to be shipped to our backers!

We have another big batch of books headed to press in a few months, so in big jumps we’re trying to get caught up! Hopefully our printers can get things stabilized, and these big batches of multiple projects can get evened out again!

Finally, as we speak of Kickstarter projects, I have to let you know that James, our always-helpful KS Concierge, and I submitted the amazing and astounding They Came From [CLASSIFIED]! and They Came From the Cyclops’s Cave! Double Feature KS to Kickstarter for approval earlier today!

We will let you know when/if that gets approved and, of course, when it will run in March! Wow, already so much going on in this first year since we accomplished:

Ten Years, Many Worlds, One Path!

    • Lots of “depends” things there: the time it takes to process at DTRPG and did it process correctly, the time it takes to order a PoD proof, the time it takes for that PoD proof to be printed and sent out, the time it takes for shipping, the time it takes to review and be sure the PoD printed right, and then when do we next have an opening for a release. Anywhere along there could be an issue where we have to redo something to get on to the next stage. This is one of the reasons we don’t give release dates until we know for sure that its ready.

  1. With the CofD Kickstarted projects being shipped and the last non-KS CofD books progressing through editing this means that the CofD line is coming to an end, right? Given how there has been no new announcements and there’s this weird/ominous silence thing going on from Paradox

    Reply
    • No need be so pessimistic. A few years ago, when cofd was still owned by CCP there was another period like this one, where very few releases happened, after a few years, cofd returned. Keep in mind the entire goddamn world is it’s more chaotic state since 1941,when the pandemic and the war are gone. There will be more books,I’m sure of it.

      Reply
      • So, under strictly ccp there wasn’t a year without a new book. After OPP is created there’s a somewhat dry spell (2014 specifically) but we knew there were lots of stuff (aka second editions) incoming with lots of spoilers and what used to be the OPP model of allowing us to peer into the design processes.
        https://whitewolf.fandom.com/wiki/Chronicles_of_Darkness_books

I find it hard to feel optimistic when there’s a proffusion of other books being requested by the same owner (Paradox).

The teams that were more heavily affected by covid seem to be the non-ks cofd ones (cofd ks has been delayed due to printer/shipping issues, not writer issues), but this doesn’t preclude Paradox to ask for new cofd books for lines that clearly could use some (Geist and Promethean, for example).

        Reply
        • or, more simply put: why is covid/war a deterrent just for the release of CofD books and not WoD/They Came From/Trinity books as well? There’s a new WoD5 or WoD20 book being announced every other month. The fifth edition supplements I understand because it’s something they’re currently publishing. But why new WoD20 books that weren’t part of the original scheme?

          Reply
          • I don’t want to belabor the point here by engaging too much with this – but I guess I don’t understand the value in this question being routinely asked. OPP has made it clear that they don’t make those kind of decisions and cannot provide us with information at this time.

Continuing to ask just frustrates everyone. The OPP devs who can’t speak to the issue, the other fans who are hungry for content or news of content and yourself because there are no immediate answers.

The old adage is that no news is good news

      • That I don’t think so because this book doesn’t look like it’s going to be crowdfunded in any way. If it was its entry in Art Direction would have been marked off as “(KS)”.

Although I will say that, with the new format of MMN it is…strange that there’s no developer note next to M20 Sorcerer’s entry.

  2. The Scion: Demigod art panel has rather obvious censor bar on the page. Will it also be censored in the book itself?

    Reply
    • I suspect that is to avoid this site getting erroneously tagged as nsfw or adult. There’s been a few nipples displayed in previous Scion books and it would be odd now to go the direction of a big black bar rather than just creating a piece that avoided that.

      Reply
      • 🙂 It’s one of two things I included this week just to see if people pick up on it. I’m not one for censor blocks unless they’re an actual part of the character, so when Mirthful Mike sent me the art I figured it was worth using that one in the MMN blog and see what people said…

  3. Hi !
Is there a plan to ship Mummy and Deviant together – for the people who backed both books?
This could save some shipping costs.

    Reply
    • It’s an option if it makes sense, but could be case by case basis. There are a lot of places where it’s either the same or could be *more* to ship because it exceeds minimum value and stuff. But, yes, absolutely an option.

The main goal is to get the books out as quickly and efficiently as possible. The fulfillment team is stretched pretty thin still, so also trying to make it as easy as possible for them to manage.

  4. I think the real question for the State of the CoD is why doesn’t Paradox (owber of CoD IP) provide an outlet for these question that will be answered, and the answers could be …

    * We are veering away from CoD in favor of V5. I would be sad but at least there would be clarity.
    * we have have not decided the direction we are going with CoD.
    * We are considering rounding out CoD xyz and then will focus on extending ABC.
    * We are keeping CoD and moving it to Renegade, again I would be sad because I think Onyx has done a great job with CoD.
    * Some other answer.

Just my quick thoughts on CoD.

  5. When can we expect the quip cards for They Came From Beyond the Grave and They Came From Camp Murder Lake to be sold from Drivethrurpg?
