Racist Skype

Meeting Notes

  • For some reason, Skype doesn’t like Spanish. I typed “Hola” to Rich and it promptly crashed. Although Rich is having problems with it crashing all the time anyhow, so maybe Skype just hates Rich instead of being racist.
  • I’m still sick, kind of. All weekend I’ve been exhausted, achy, and mentally fogged. Today is a little better, but it might just be a larval stage before a full-blown cold.
  • Rich went to see Tinker, Tailor. Gary Oldman was good, but he thinks the miniseries was better.
  • I have the Victorian Lost finals, which I’ll be turning around for edits this week.
  • Geist edits are behind, because the work is just so much heavier than anyone anticipated.
  • V20 Companion is also in the hands of the editor, as is the Werewolf Translation Guide.
  • Writers are hard at work on W20.
  • Rich might have jury duty, because that’s not at all inconvenient. He’s also working on the V20 Companion art direction.
  • Rich is having more conversations about upcoming Exalted products.
  • We talk a bit about the D&D 5e announcement. No one was surprised to hear about it, though.
  • The PoD proofs for V20 are okay. It should be live today or tomorrow.

Today’s Reason To Drink: On January 9, 1923, Juan de la Cierva makes the first autogyro flight, inspiring pulp writers for decades to come.

      • Imperial Mysteries will go live this week- Tuesday or Weds. (Depending on the whole jury duty thing sucking up my time to get the sales info loaded).

        • That’s great news. Been really looking forward to Imperial Mysteries. After a crappy start to the new year I need something to cheer me up. 🙂

        • “Your honor, I don’t believe I can be on this jury. I feel that because you are actually a Ventrue’s ghoul, your own opinion is overshadowed by your vampiric lord and I just can’t be a part of this charade. Besides, I’m pretty sure the next guy is a werewolf and he’s going to try to kill you when he gets in here. Can I go now?”

  1. 1) Rich is incorrect about the miniseries, though I’ll admit it’s far less dense and better-paced.
    2) Upgrade to the beta version of Skype; the crashing is a known flaw. My Sunday night Pathfinder game was delayed nearly an hour until we could all get online and get a stable call going, and even then it took a while to kill the lich.

      2) Yep, did it and it’s fine. I’d upgrade if they asked like other companies, that don’t have to crash me.
      1) WRONG!

      • Wrong, my foot. I’m a tremendous fan of the espionage genre – I tell you, this version of Smiley is the best one yet. Alec Guinness was wonderful and defined the character, but Oldman manages to let you know exactly how the character is thinking and feeling without changing his face or voice. It’s all in the eyes.

Also, some of the changes added some real nuance to the characters – I’m referring, mostly, to the sexual orientations.

  2. Ester-C. It has Bioflavonoids that get the good stuff into your system faster. No, seriously. It works great. Zinc and Echenasia as well, and tons of rest (like, 12-18 hours a day if you can manage.) 2 days down and back up to 100% rather than 7 days at 50%… math is easy. 😉

Hooray for Werewolf Translation! Now, for the odd question: Any chance that any parts of it won’t fit with W20? Or are you being extra-careful with its writing to make sure that nothing will be out-dated by September? I really hope that it helps both groups who don’t quite understand either game to get a better handle on the other by comparing and using concepts they’re more familiar with.

I can’t wait to see what the W20 writers are doing. 😀 *tries to peek* Damnit. Anyways, can’t wait for http://www.WerewolfTheApocalypse.com to go live (or at least for the blog to be linked to it. 😉 ) I expect that the W20 Open Development will be quite spirited and vocal. Perhaps much moreso than V20 was for many reasons. Nonetheless, I’m still very excited about it. Perhaps seeing your notes to the writers would be something cool to see?–your directions, ideas, and such?

  3. Most important thing first: Get well soon! 🙂

The more I hear that Geist edits are delayed due to underestimates, the more excited I am that 1.1 will be even cooler. My exams are finished in February, if it’s delayed for a couple of weeks after that I may be able to have a celebratory London Underground 1.1 ready and waiting for release day.

And Victorian Lost is making progress, so exciting.

  4. Victorian Lost. Talk more about Victorian Lost.

Because hanging on the Exalted forum has spoiled me, and now I cannot live without spoilers.

    Also, get well.

    • I just finished up the final revisions, and I’m talking with an editor now.

Also, I think Rich and I just agreed that the full title is now “Victorian Lost: A Maze of Smoke and Hedge.”

      • I think I would’ve preferred “Smoke and Brambles”, if only because it matches the syllables of “smoke and mirrors”.

        Thanks for the heads up.

How big is this book going to be, though? Will it be closer to Requiem for Rome (hardcover) or Mage Noir/New Wave Requiem (softcover) in length?

  5. Any word on whether there could be a GM for 2012? Reason is that I need to start putting my travel/convention budget in order 🙂 Thanks.

  6. Eddy, I have a couple of questions, maybe you can answer some of them:

    1) last time you said you were going to share some info about the plans for 2013 and some info on the Onyx Path. Are you cleared to share some info on these?

    2) are you guys/gals considering a 20th Aniversary edition for Vampire: the Dark Ages too? Any chances of this happening if the 20th Aniversary editions sell well?

    Thanks!

  8. Mmm i don’t want to complain, but I expected a little bit more of the Imperial Mysteries Book [perhaps more that 86 pages] … it’s not that I don’t like it, in fact I do, it’s just that maybe I had too many expectations about it. Sorry about posting this here, but I hope that you keep up the good work.

    • What did it not contain that you wanted? I admit, that book was pretty much Dave and Malcolm’s show and I was just there to ride herd and rein in the wordcount, but I thought it came out pretty well, given the space restrictions.

  9. For my part, Imperial Mysteries has exceeded my bests expectations.

I had curiosity about it, but I thought it would just be a book about new cool powers and may be some info about Archmasters. And I have found an excelent book that details a lot of the Mage Cosmology.

    Thank you very much!!!!!

    • You are most welcome. I would have liked more room for example spells, maybe character generation rather than relying on converting existing characters, but we pushed it to the limits as it was. MAR; what did you think was missing?
