Really looking forward to the release of The Hedge!
A quick query, which you may or may not be able to answer… A friend and I were discussing Chronicles of Darkness as an IP the other day, and noticed that, while there are certainly several products coming down the pipeline, there’s been nothing new added to the board since The Hedge in 2020.
Obviously, there’s been a LOT going on the past few years, but it got us to wondering – is there a reason that there’s nothing “new” being added? We came up with four possibilities, while also recognising none of them (or all of them!) my be a contributing factor.
i) Due to the global situation, a decision was made to clear the board of existing CoD products in development, before beginning new ones;
ii) Ideas have been pitched to Paradox, but nothing has been cleared thus far;
iii) Paradox have made the decision to shutter CoD, given their focus on WoD 5, but it hasn’t been formally announced yet, so as not to affect reception of titles in development;
iv) Certain lines in the IP simply don’t need further expansion at present, and with the current workload with other IPs, fewer (or no) pitches are being made to Paradox at present.
Obviously I understand if you can’t give a detailed answer here,but I was wondering if some indication as to the future of the IP could be given?

We answer this question regularly — I think one of the recent Mailbag episodes of the Pathcast tackled it — but in brief: right now we can only discuss what’s on our release schedule. Anything else, like business decisions, is largely covered by NDA, so it’s not something we can legally discuss until we’ve been given the okay by Paradox to talk about it. This applies to all our licensing partners, not just Paradox, of course. That’s just the nature of the business.
