Rust Or Bust! [Monday Meeting Notes]

As I write this we’re just under the 48 hours left mark for the Dead Man’s Rust Kickstarter for Scarred Lands! Where did the time go?

We have blown through a decent amount of Stretch Goals – and, in fact, backers are waiting for James to reveal the next ones – and we’re looking forward to the day that we can see DMR in game stores thanks to this Kickstarter!

So please do let your friends who love fantasy gaming know about this, if you haven’t already. And if you want more info before committing, please do check out any of the links below in the Media section.

Also, I was thrilled to listen to our Onyx Pathcast crew do an Actual Play of Dead Man’s Rust as last Friday’s Pathcast release. Just listening, I could tell that the gang had a blast, and even though this was a recording of a session where they clearly were using a VTT platform to play, the way they discussed what was happening made it clear just what the VTT visuals were showing them.

It was a really enjoyable peek into the terrors of the Scarred Lands‘ Hornsaw Forest. Sorry about Spike, Eddy (spoilers!). Check it out with all of our other Pathcasts (two years’ worth now) wherever you download your podcasts!

Next up on Kickstarter, we’re starting 2021 with a bit of a different kind of KS in that it’s a double-feature of Scion: Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos! We haven’t really done a double KS like this as both books are expansions on the Scion concept but they take it in different directions, rather than a book and then another book that builds on the first.

Expect that as early in January 2021 as we can after the holiday season!

The Meeting Today is the Last 2020 Monday Meeting!

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you, but 2020 was one messed up year! So I’m encouraging everybody in our Monday Meeting crew who can do it to take the last week in December off. Let’s ease on out of this year as painlessly as possible!

Of course, pretty much everybody has mentioned that one thing they still need to stay in contact on – a project, or a creator that needs help, or just one last meeting – but do expect that we’ll be less visible and responsive than normal.

Also, expect that next week’s MMN blog will be extremely truncated!

We do still have some things to get done before the holidays, though, and that’s mostly what we talked about in today’s meeting. We also touched base on a few holiday-themed things.

We’ve worked out a Holiday Surprise Giveaway that will be announced in Wednesday’s weekly sales blog message, so keep your eyes peeled for that! It’s a little something from us to all of you who have supported us this whole furshlugginer year!

(A tip of the hat to those of you who recognize the usage of that word ala Mad Magazine).

Creatures of the Deep art by James Stowe

We also mentioned our impressions of our holiday party that we held over Zoom last week. I thought it actually went pretty well and certainly a lot of laughs were had. Not a bad way to end the year with a whole screen full of our writers and devs having a good time.

Haven’t mentioned the Onyx Pathcast all that much recently – yet here’s another mention just today! I’ll be sitting down for a yearly wrap-up with the crew this week that will air next week, or later in January. And then being aired this Friday is the Pathcast‘s version of MST3K as they watch and riff on the third Hobbit movie!

Should be a lot of fun and we hope a listen fits into your holiday plans!

And here’s also hoping that your holiday plans include playing lots of games in our:

Many Worlds, One Path!

Dead Man’s Rust for Scarred Lands’s Kickstarter has less than 48 hours to go and we’ve already funded a bunch of Stretch Goals in addition to the main goal!

If you haven’t heard, though, Dead Man’s Rust is the most blood-spraying, face-melting, ass-kicking, heart-wrenching, undead-filled, heavy-metal pile of awesomeness ever conceived of for the fifth edition of the world’s most popular role-playing game!

As of this writing we have achieved four VTT Token packs and the exclusive Backer t-shirt discount, electronic wallpaper, and then a biggie:
Gazetteer: Dier Drendal – A supplemental PDF focused on the underground city of Dier Drendal, providing hooks and guidance on how to incorporate it into the Dead Man’s Rust mega-adventure.

You can check it out here:

Next Kickstarter in early January 2021 will be a double feature for Scion: Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos!

As we find ways to enable our community to more easily play our games, the Onyx Dice Rolling App is live! Our dev team has been doing updates since we launched based on the excellent use-case comments by our community, and this thing is awesome! (Seriously, you need to roll 100 dice for Exalted? This app has you covered.)

We’re told that the App Dev is currently creating an updated version for the latest devices, so keep an eye open for those! The App was also pulled down from the Apple store in order to make some required updates – it’ll be back there soon!

Virtual TableTop!

Two Virtual Tabletop adventures: the Gauntlet of Spiragos and the Dagger of Spiragos for Scarred Lands on Astral TableTop and DriveThruRPG!

Scars of the Divine War, which ended less than 200 years ago, have still not healed. One such scar is the Chasm of Flies, a rent in the earth created when the titan Spiragos the Ambusher was smote down by one of the young gods, Vangal the Ravager. Now, the Chasm is inhabited by spider-eye goblins and their spider allies, but it is also thought to be the resting place of powerful artifacts from that elder age.

Astral TableTop is the easiest way to play any tabletop RPG online, free. Astral already supports popular systems like D&D and Pathfinder, and Astral can support virtually any tabletop roleplaying game. Get started quickly with built-in support for most popular game systems. Whether you’re brand new to TTRPGs or a veteran tabletop gamer, Astral‘s ease-of-use and built in automation is designed to streamline gameplay.

Astral is browser-based and uses the latest technology to streamline your storytelling experience. Connect with your party online and run your campaigns however you like. Astral offers tools optimized for phone, tablet, and desktop devices, no installation required.

Build epic battlemaps using Astral‘s enormous collection of scenery, props, and tokens or upload your own. Pro users gain access to over 12,000+ assets and fresh new packs every month. Add weather, visual effects, triggers, and so much more with easy-to-use tools

Build your own adventure, or choose from pre-generated game kits like Gauntlet of Spiragos and Dagger of Spiragos. Create character sheets, craft maps, or just jump right in to connect with your friends and start your adventures!

    Happy Winter Solstice

    1. richt Avatar

      And to you, too!

  2. perverseness Avatar

Damn, Dixie. You have my sympathies. That is a fat pile of stuff in edits. Good news for us, but, damn.

    1. richt Avatar

Yep, our editing crew are working full-out on getting through that pile. Thanks, Covid!

  3. Possessed Avatar

Damn it. Going through a tough christmas and have to redo plumbing of the house starting january, and taking nearly 3 months to complete, so this is literally the worst time, for me, to kickstarter the Scion book I have waited the most… and to do a double feature with the Dragons, meaning double the cost.

    Well happy holidays regardless!

    1. richt Avatar

Sorry to hear it. We’ll have the books up on BackerKit afterwards, and one of the chief purposes of the KS is to get the books into retail – so you will have a chance to get them later on. No worries!

Been thinking of getting the Scion books in the IPR sale, but now I’m thinking it’s prob more useful to you to buy them as part of the January Kickstarter. Will the 2e Origin and Hero books be available as add-ons?

    1. richt Avatar

Add-ons and in Tiers are both likely. The actual mix of what is where is still being hammered out. Just a caveat: IPR will ship pretty close to when you order, but we don’t ship physical books until the main KS’d books are ready to ship. All rewards in one box, as it were. So, that could take many months to happen for this dual Scion KS in January. Thanks!

  5. GREEM Avatar

    Eeeee Dragon~ So excited~

I mean, Masks will be interesting too, but I’m FAR more excited for Dragon.

    1. richt Avatar

Good thing is, you’ll be able to try both of them during the KS as we release sections of the text!

  6. Jusenkyo Avatar

Just thought I’d mention that my Kickstarter copy of the Contagion Chronicle showed up today. I know in the last update James said they probably wouldn’t ship until January, but I guess we got lucky. Watch your mailboxes everybody!

    1. richt Avatar

Excellent! They had said they would try starting in Dec if they had the manpower – great to hear!

  7. B Avatar

I’m so glad the Kickstarter met all its stretch goals and Dier Drendal and Burok Torn will both be flesh out!
