…the Jadestorm, that is!
If I already did that joke or a variant sometime in these past 15 years – apologies!
What the headline is about is that like many of our crowdfunding campaigns, Jadestorm‘s is now in the lull of the campaign with ten days to go (as I write this). This is super-typical, and so far the only solution is for all of us to just put the word out there more.
If you backed and are interested in a particular aspect of the setting or rules, pop on your favorite site and let folks know about what’s sounding interesting to you. You’d be amazed at how much of a good reaction our campaigns get when somebody who isn’t us talks up about it!
And you don’t even need to go deep into the weeds about the game since you’re focused on that thing you like!
To help with finding those cool elements, here’s Emma to provide us with some more evocative writing drawn from Jadestorm itself:
Storms Across Eos
Eos has barely had time to even begin rebuilding in the wake of the Infernal War, the cosmic battle between Malefic that ripped Jadestorm’s world asunder one generation ago. The devils are unmade, but the nine realms, Temple Diabolik cultists, and the world’s newly minted Jadebearers all seek to exploit the devastation the Malefic left behind for their own ends.
Jadestorm contains reams of advice on how Storyguides and players alike can craft characters and tell stories befitting wuxia, xianxia, and the broader tradition of heroic fantasy, but this book also provides several pre-written adventures across all levels of play. You’ll even find a short adventure designed for use as a one-shot, which you can use to easily introduce the game to your playgroup, to run a game at a convention, or as a cold open for a longer Jadestorm campaign.
The formatting of this book’s adventures is based on Curseborne’s Accursed Adventures supplement, so if you’ve read that, you know what you’re in for: stories covering multiple scenes, with each of the combat encounters, investigation sequences, and roleplaying notes for the Storyguide pre-written and ready to go. Jadestorm’s adventures each take place in a different location across Eos and highlight different types of conflict, so they’re also a great guideline for writing compelling stories of your own.
Here’s the introduction to a mid-level story about the opening salvo of a full-scale war between the rival realms of Silvaerim and Soleos:
Solar Eclipse
The former dominions of Ara and Elion still hold fast to their hatred of one another. The Malefic may be dead, but bad blood takes far longer to fade. The Sunlit Land’s militant legates have prepared their armies to march on Silvaerim for a generation, yet ceaseless infighting has spared the Vale of Thorns from an invasion. Seeing an opening in the wake of an influential legate’s death, Silvaerim’s army launches a surprise attack on the heart of Soleos: the Crown of the Sun.
Where the Wild Things Are
The nine realms of Eos are rich and vibrant places, but the world of Jadestorm also contains countless lands in the Wilds outside society. The Wilds play host to most Jadebearer temples and philosophical orders, secret compounds belonging to the Temple Diabolik, uncharted wildernesses, forgotten dungeons, the kingdoms of primordial and natural forces, and much, much more.
This book contains a dozen lively sample settings across the nine realms and the Wilds for any Storyguide to use as-is, to adjust for their own version of Eos, or to take as inspiration for their own location design. Each of them mirrors what you’ll find in The World Below’s sample settings, including a general description, common threats to the characters, sample Enhancements and Complications, and several key sublocations with their own descriptions and read-aloud text.
I had a tremendously fun time writing the sample settings, so it was quite difficult for me to pick which one I wanted to tease for you today. Some of the runners-up were a subterranean city built into a volcano in Ferralim, the hidden temple of the Petal Order’s Ascetic philosophy, and a deadly pilgrimage site for Jadebearers holding a cinder of the Deep Sky Stormwright. But instead of any of those, here’s the introduction and one of the key locations for the elemental lord of life’s budding kingdom, which I couldn’t help but rewrite at the eleventh hour of this project after falling in love with Erica’s design for the adversary who rules this place:
Fire Lily Kingdom
Ash-Daun’s volcanic swamps turn to lakes of magma deep in the Wilds to the Flaming Dominion’s south. This impassable terrain keeps explorers away from the furthest reaches of the lava flow, where the flame meets fields of flowers that somehow resist the heat. The ground is in constant flux between unrestrained plant growth and pure lava in the land where the elemental lords of life and fire wage bitter war.
Volcanic Breach: A yawning pit of lava on the west side of Vyressa’s mountain, where her forces desperately try to beat back her rival’s cinder storms. Wooden soldiers swarm a fiery pit on the mountain’s western face, locked in perpetual battle with the forces of fire; Vyressa seems to have contained the fiery breach by lining its edges with densely packed fire lilies.

Since we’ve been asked about them, here’s a Matthew vid about the long-term baddies in Jadestorm – the Temple Diabolik!
Thanks… and spread the word!

NO BOOKS FOR YOU
We got a little silly today and channeled a certain Seinfeld character. Don’t worry, we don’t mean your books.
If it’s Curseborne books you’re thinking about – we’re pinning down the last details, I mean things like increasing a page cut by several mm’s, and both the printer and ourselves are very anxious to get the books on press and printing.
I’m really hoping that next week’s MMN blog will contain that happy news!
Meanwhile, expect to be treated to some new info and teasers for the Curseborne Covenant campaign this week and in the weeks to come before Oct 1 – but not all of them are going to be as overt as our long-running video teasers that are going up every Friday with some sort of new symbols now part of the vid.
In other topics, here’s Travis with a Twitch update:

Here’s Travis again with more news about Scarred Lands Community Content:
The Dragon Lands are coming to the Slarecian Vault for Scarred Lands!
On the southern end of Scarn rests a large archipelago known as the Dragon Lands. Called Tanaroth by some, the Dragon Lands is home to a rich culture ruled by true dragons. Prior to the Divine War, these dragons engaged in trade with other lands. Some even maintained kingdoms on Termana, their closest neighbor. In the early days of the Divine War, the Dragon Emperor called all dragons home, and the Dragon Lands fell silent to the outside world. Few people from other continents have dared to venture there since, and only the independent port of Wastedge has been accessible to outsiders.
Recently a new leader has risen in the Dragon Lands. The Kobold Empress has declared an era of reformation, opening the Dragon Lands up to the outside world, albeit slowly. As the true dragons and their subjects take the first steps onto the worldwide stage, leaders across Scarn seek information that might help them decide if these Tanarothians — these dragon people — are friend or foe.
Releasing this week, Secrets of the Dragon Lands brings the Dragon Lands to the Slarecian Vault and the 5e OGL. This book expands the setting, opening an entire new Great Land for people to explore!
So cool, we’ve really covered a lot of our many game lines this week, and I can add another as I have some Scion3 and Realms of Pugmire text to read through! And just to get in the mentions, Exalted remains really cool and loved here (and the second Essence PG novella goes live on Weds), Branch Riders is still a super good game to bring people into gaming with, and while Jadestorm is the fourth Earthbane game, the other three all have different bits of progress represented down below!

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!
Today is the US holiday of Labor Day, which is very probably Our Day! If you are reading this and don’t have to work to afford living: good for you! The rest of us, though, keep on working. Even your friends here at Onyx Path! Over the years I’ve been told that I’m “living the dream”, so I guess the dream includes working on, or thinking about working on, all of the phases of creating the worlds we make and grow, because our small team does indeed labor every day, as do our freelance talents all over the world. On this day then: thanks to everybody out there who is finishing a paragraph, a half-page piece of art, annotating or editing a manuscript, lining up artists and writers, or creating a design element or laying out a page today!
Hi Mr. Thomas. I’m very much looking for Curseborne Covenant
Although I want to see Accursed Seattle even more. Seattle is a pretty nice city if i say so myself
