The Mage Mesa [Monday Meeting Notes]

At about ten days before the M20 Lore of the Traditions Kickstarter wraps up, we’re in what we call the “plateau”, that section of the KS where we see a steady but limited sequence of pledges. Soon, that will explode in the final days of the KS, but for now, we’re on the Mage Mesa!

But, because it’s Mage, there are still all kinds of comments and activities going on – our Mage community has always been one of the most active!

For our part, we’re encouraging folks to chat up anybody they can about M20, M20 Lore of the Traditions, and this particular KS. It’s a good period to get the word out!

Here are some of the Mage-based activities going on this week, freely copy and pasted from our own KS-Concierge James Bell:

… the third of three interview/discussions held by the Mage The Podcast team covering the Lore of Traditions book. This time Victor talks with Terry Robinson about his work on the book!Click to hear Terry talk about writing these sections of the manuscript!

Huge thanks to Terry and team and all of the Lore of the Traditions writers for having these discussions, recording them, and sharing them with us!For more Mage fun, check out all of the Mage the Podcast episodes!

Here are all of the interview links again, in case you want to binge them all at once (or missed one and want to check it out):

UPCOMING TWITCH SHOWS

Here are a trio of streams to check out on Twitch this week for Mage: The Ascension fans! If you want to see several of the writers for our M20 Lore of the Traditions book in action, check this out…

On Tuesday at 3 PM EST, Travis Legge is running the A Blessing and A Curse one-shot with Satyros Phil Brucato, Rachel Judd, and Hiromi Cota.

When a group of mages is seemingly steered toward a gas station by random coincidence — just in time for a robbery to occur — they discover strange forces at work in the life of an otherwise mundane woman named Jessica Brutelli. It seems as though fate is conspiring to the gas station attendant’s benefit, but nothing comes free in the world of magick. An inexplicable aura of Paradox surrounds Jessica, and the party may be the only ones who can rid her of it.

On Wednesday at 9 PM EST we have Walking into Shadow, an information and interview show centered around Mage: The Ascension:

From light casting images on a cave wall to data streams in the form of people, the true nature of Reality is known only to those who have Awakened. Throughout history they have been sages, wizards, witches, natural philosophers, and scientists – those called Mages understand that Belief controls the world, and they aim to be the ones in control. Open your eyes and enter a world of wonder, of gods and monsters, and the art of Magick.

Walking Into Shadow is an introductory series for the game Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition. Focusing on being newcomer-friendly, each episode will ease you into the secrets of this innovative role-playing game.

On Saturday at 10 PM EST Dork Tales returns with Breaking Tradition Episode Two, which will be broadcast from their channel https://www.twitch.tv/dorktales and will be hosted on the Onyx Path channel!

RichT back again, with one more item James didn’t cover, and that is our very own Onyx Pathcast! Last week, the first Mage Roundtable aired, hosted by the Gentleman Gamer, Matthew Dawkins, and this week there is a second Mage Roundtable, as the topic, it is a vast one!

Hope you get a chance to check out either show, or even both of them, as the guests are different on each of them!

No matter what, that’s sure a lot of Mage-y goodness!

To the Monday Meeting Uncanny Valley!

We shift this week to celebrating Werewolf: The Apocalypse 20th Anniversary Edition with an entire week where W20 PDFs are 90% off on DTRPG! (Links below in the Sales section). That’s 10% their usual price, just to thank you all for 10 years of supporting our efforts! This sale will run for a week – and all month our friends at IPR have all of the WoD 20 physical products they have at 20% off!

We talked about how to arrange the rest of the sales this month, and we think we’ll be doing a joint Wraith20 and Changeling: The Dreaming20 sale next week, as the M20 Lore of the Traditions KS will still be running, and we want the KS to have a bit of room to breathe.

That’s a bit of a catchall phrase, representing the overall idea that there’s only so much attention our community can give at one time, and only so much we can talk about different things before our signals turn to noise. It’s kinda the same thinking that I mentioned at the beginning of the year when I talked about how we are arranging which game lines are celebrated in which months. If there’s a big DTRPG sale, we’d like to avoid running a celebratory weekly sale at the same time.

We want our tenth anniversary to have room to breathe, too!

I let our “inner circle” know about the plans we hatched last week for the “They Came From [CLASSIFIED]! and They Came From the Cyclopes Cave! Double Feature” crowd-funding event, which should be a really fun one. Wait until you see the promo trailer for this one!

We’ve reviewed a ton of upcoming projects these last few weeks as well. Something about January seemed like it was more of a pause, and then boom! All sorts of new things coming forward, both projects and game lines, that we’re asking Eddy to take more of the organizational and scheduling duties onto his plate. (Both Dixie and Matthew stepped up to take over the uber-dev duties of some of the lines Eddy had been shepherding).

None of that should be obvious to anybody else, but we need to go over – and then go over, again – these sorts of things.

Twitch and Actual Play groups also seem to have recovered from the New Year and are popping into our schedule again, so take a look below on our weekly schedule as it starts to bulk up again. There’s quite a variety there, even with our Onyx Path crew adding on-theme programs to match each celebration month.

Finally, in discussing what we’ll be doing for Onyx Path Virtual Con #3, a request was made that I prepare an adventure for my Crossroads Continent setting for D&D 5e. This could be premiered there and put on sale for the Con.

Gulp.

There’s not a lot of time before June, and I’ll need to figure out which of my “smaller” dungeons could be converted in that time. It’s exciting, but also, yikes! Guess it’s time to put on the big-boy pants and get things rolling. (Also time to talk with Travis, my DD5e expert, and see if any of my adventures have understandable notes!)

Wish me luck with my first actual CRC adventure in:

M20 The Rich Bastard’s Guide to Magick materializes coincidentally at a reserved table in a fine restaurant this Wednesday, with its PDF and PoD versions going on sale at DTRPG!

This Mage 20th Anniversary Edition sourcebook expands on the mystique of the elite with an exploration of how the real movers and shakers operate when you throw magick into their world as well.

The Rich Bastard’s Guide to Magick contains:

  • An examination of money and mage society, exploring what it means to have magick and wealth at your fingertips.
  • Money Magic: viewing the technocratic concepts of Hypereconomics and the Primal Utility Sphere through a non-technocracy POV. Includes new money-based magickal effects.
  • Movers and Shakers: Organizations, private clubs, elite locations, and the sample characters you might meet in such places.
  • High-Ticket Items: A collection of the best talismans, instruments, devices, and wonders money can buy (or can buy you access to), plus costly enhancements for sanctums, laboratories, chantries, etc.

They Came From Camp Murder Lake! lunges out of the shadows as its Advance PDF goes on sale on DTRPG this Wednesday!

They Came from Camp Murder Lake! is a sourcebook for Players and Directors wanting to embrace the thrills and horrors of the 1970s and 1980s slasher movie genre, when arguably, it was at its peak. This game presents everything you need to play a terrifying horror movie in the style of Halloween, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and every other favorite of the slasher set.

They Came from Camp Murder Lake! uses the Storypath System, which you can find in the pages of the They Came from Beyond the Grave! rulebook.

They Came from Camp Murder Lake! includes:

• Five new playable Archetypes and a multitude of new Origins and Ambitions!

• New Cinematics, Quips, Stunts, and a new mechanic: The Twist!

• A panoply of dread-inducing slashers, including cannibals, dream stalkers, evil children, killer clowns, homicidal hitchhikers, chameleonic stepfathers, and many, many more!

• All the guidance a Director needs for running games filled with suspense and scares, including variant styles of gameplay beyond the expected slasher movie arcs and a thorough presentation of potential settings!

• A full scenario you can run straight from the pages of this book! Get murdering!

Remember: the Pre-Order page for Trinity Continuum: Assassins is open on DTRPG! https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/379041

Conventions!

Because dates for physical conventions are subject to change due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, we don’t yet have a list of upcoming physical conventions. Instead, keep an eye out here for more virtual conventions we’re going to be involved with!

Right now, we’re planning our first plans for the 3rd Onyx Path Virtual Con later this year. Can we pull it all together a third time? Wait and see!

And now, the new project status updates!

Our full list of projects will be available monthly on our blog!

Development Status from Eddy Webb!

(Here are the projects that moved to the next stage of production):

First Drafts

Trinity Continuum – Talents Player’s Guide

  • Eddy: This is a project we’ve been mulling over for a while now, so I’m happy to see it becoming a reality! It’ll be a fun grab-bag of new things for Talent characters to play with.

Exalted – Sidereals

  • Dixie: I am so unbelievably thrilled this book is in first drafts. Everything already coming out of the team is amazing, and I can’t wait to share previews in the future!

Final Drafts

TC: Adventure – Adventure! Addendum

Eddy: One writer had to drop off, but the rest are full-speed ahead, and everything should be all together by the time it’s ready for approval.

Scion – (Tasty Bit) So Now You’re a Hero

Eddy: I think this will be a great little PDF of advice and suggestions on what stories to tell to get Origin-level characters to the Hero level.

Development

Pugmire – Squeaks in the Deep Jumpstart

Eddy: Another project where one writer needed to be replaced, but I was pretty happy with what I saw in the first drafts, so I’m expecting the development phase to be reasonably quick.

Post-Editing Development

TC: Aberrant – Panopticon novella

  • Eddy: Everyone enjoyed reading the novella, even the editor, so again post-development should be pretty quick.

  1. How would one access the Blog for the full list of upcoming releases? Also how would one find out the lastest information for the SCION television show? Thanks.

  2. Hey Rich, you keep copy/pasting the spelling error on Heroes in a World of Horror week to week. It still says “TCFGtG!” instead of “TCFBtG!” 🙂

  3. The appearance of Sidereals on this list restores my faith in tabletop role-playing! Maybe there is hope for the future after all! Seriously, though, that is VERY good news. Long live EX3!

  4. The “At Press” list is getting better. I’ve got at least 8 items in that section. The next few months should hopefully bring lots of long awaited gifts!

      • From talking with our KS fulfillment folks, they are still scrambling to hire up enough warehouse crew to get back to their standard turnaround from before Covid. So it looks like it’ll be one KS fulfillment then the next one, then the next one, although depending on which ones you backed and what you backed for, the deliveries may be closer or further apart.

    • Yes, our printer has been good as their word – even if the initial situation with the delayed print time was quite a shock to our system.

  5. This question is for Ian. Do you have any plans to do a Nova’s in the Aon Timeline? As Allie’s/ antagonists and what some of them have been doing aka plot thread ideAs?

    Reply
    • Not at this time. The Æon era is about psions.

If you want to play novas in the Æon era, there’s plenty of material available in the form of the TCÆon core’s Aberrant rules, the Æon Æxpansion’s Superior rules, or TCAberrant’s own nova creation rules.

If you’d like a collection of nova-oriented plots, that sounds like a good candidate for community content on the Storypath Nexus.

  6. We’ve got the sun, the moon, the earth, and now the Stars will be coming soon to a solar system near you. Woo. I realize we’re a ways off from that, gotta get the exigents first, but I’m excited none the less. Perhaps we’ll get those frankly bizarre getimians, next.

    • That’s because it didn’t move forward to another phase of production. Check out Ian’s monthly roundup for January to see where it was at the end of that month.

  7. Rich,
It seems like it might be work it to include a link to the previous monthly roundup in each week’s blog, if just for the people that don’t read every week and don’t remember where to look. Might that be a possibility?

The blurb for Dead Man’s Rust mentioned July’s “to press”. Do I take it correctly you already have a second mass print run on the printer’s schedule for July? If so, bravo, and thanks for the secret handshake, wink, and a nod!

    Reply
    • Thanks, that seems like a reasonable idea. As for press dates- whoo boy, that’s a can of worms still. We won’t be confirming any of those dates because when we go to press has so many factors influencing whether a given date sticks that are out of our control that anything we say could be contradicted twenty times before a book is actually at press.
