Of course, I’m referring to the Jadestorm crowdfunding campaign that ended last Thursday in overtime, which was nice! Thanks to everybody who backed and also folks who took the time to make useful comments!
(It’s a good week for games in the Earthbane Cycle, with At The Gates going live on Weds on DTRPG, and Mirthful Mike sending me all Monster Kingdoms art for the blog this week!)
Now, with the accompanying dusty cloud of moths, comes Curseborne Covenant!
We’ll be going live with the Kickstarter campaign on October 1st at 2pm Eastern US time! Here’s a link so you can sign up for the pre-campaign page – that lets KS alert you when the campaign is going to go live, so you don’t miss out on all the fun!

Since we’re a couple of weeks out from the Kickstarter campaign, this might be a perfect time for me just to give you some “high-altitude mapping” thoughts about Curseborne Covenant. Sort of the big-picture as to why we’re doing this book.
As we’ve mentioned before, one of the really big goals for Curseborne when we were creating it, and revealing it to people almost two-years ago, was to create and present a dark world that included different types of monstrous but playable beings right from the start, all in the main book.
Since we also wanted to provide an entryway for players that were coming to our horror games fresh, we decided that the first main book, Curseborne, would feature the world from a street-level viewpoint, a viewpoint likely shared by characters newly aware that they were Accursed. We kept the “power level” limited so that players could grow those first characters.
And because these characters were new on the scene, they had their Families and Lineages to deal with rather than over-arcing organizations of Accursed. Part of the logic behind that being that these newly Accursed weren’t really allowed to see much of the machinations happening all around them because they weren’t yet proven to those behind those shadowy curtains.
But, as we promised at the time, those secret groups and histories did exist in the world of Curseborne and we would reveal them later.
Well, later is almost NOW!
Curseborne Covenant adds the next levels of Entanglement in the web of curses, and the increase and changes in the powers that such Entanglement provides. It adds details and histories to the Families, and presents the organizations that have formed over the centuries behind the scenes. Conspiracies that seek control, power, arcane wisdom, and sometimes that just want to mess with the status quo!
(And since control is such a sweet nectar, we’re providing rules and examples for territory seizure and control: make it your nightclub, your block, your city!)
In other words, Curseborne Covenant adds onto everything in the original Curseborne book (whether detailed or just hinted at) and widens the scope and deepens the lore.

In the next couple of weeks, you’ll be seeing more info on Curseborne Covenant that sets the stage for the book text we’ll be releasing during the course of the Kickstarter – so keep an eye out here, on the Curseborne website, and on our YouTube channel!
Finally, just want to emphasize that while we are thrilled that the Curseborne traditionally printed books and screens and the jumpstart and all the KS rewards are either “at press” or just about there after a quality control proofing check, we know it has been a longer than desired or expected slog. We’re truly sorry that it has taken this long. I really would have preferred to have backers have their rewards and Curseborne books made available to a wider audience in retail stores before we upped the ante with Curseborne Covenant.
Better for backers and better for us, too. We’re almost there, gang!

A….Chopping Mall?
A reply during the meeting to the idea that our next Curseborne Jumpstart should be set in a mall. We’ll be here all week, folks – enjoy the tofu-veal!
Besides awful humor, we have several sales-things going including the Superhero Sale at DTRPG where we have several TC: Aberrant books in the mix.
And ongoing, we still have two, count ’em two, Trinity Bundle of Holding deals happening right now!

Not much else really, the crew is pulling together all that Covenant stuff I mentioned, and still covering moving forward on all our other projects, so this was very much a “Get ‘er Done!” meeting and week to come.
Which, honestly, a lot of our weeks are, really. Because we have to cover:
Many Worlds… One Path!
Blurbs!

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!
Today is Yom Kippur and here are some thoughts from our friend Rich “The Deadguy” Dansky: “Sunday night at sundown marked the beginning of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement on the Jewish calendar. It is the last of the Days of Awe, when the Book of Life that we have all been inscribed in is sealed for the next year, a metaphor that I feel deep in my writer’s heart. It is a fast day, a day to chose discomfort in sympathy of the discomfort we may have caused others, a day meant to spent in contemplation of one’s mistakes and failures and misdeeds of the past year, intentional or otherwise. But it’s also a day of asking forgiveness of those whom you might have wronged, of recognizing your mistakes and vowing to do better. It is the reset of who you are for the next year, your slate wiped clean so you can inscribe it through your words and deeds as you will.” Here’s a link to his Patreon where you can read his complete post, and also his other cool stuff: https://www.patreon.com/RichardDansky/
Thank you for referencing Yom Kippur.
Is Curseborne: Covenant going to be Hope Punk?
Glad to do it! Curseborne Covenant, no colon, continues the themes and motifs of Curseborne but expands and deepens them, as well as the setting overall. And the rules, for that matter. A lot of the Hope Punk aspects will be carried forward, particularly by the PCs, as counterpoints to the more entrenched “controllers in the shadows” feel of the setting as revealed in the book. And it’s a great roleplaying question: How hard is it to maintain the ethos you started with when you are exposed to so much more corruption?
