The Kickstarter campaign for Titans Rising and Titanomachy is going great and was funded in about half a day! Whoooo!
We already achieved this Stretch Goal:
ACHIEVED! – At $35,000 in Funding – TITANS RISING STARTING ADVENTURE – A semi-jumpstart scenario designed to work with the Ready-Made Characters from Titans Rising (or your own characters) and launch a new epic tale in the World of Scion. This PDF supplement will be added to the rewards list of all backers receiving the Titans Rising PDF as one of their rewards.
And are pushing rapidly towards achieving this one:
At $45,000 in Funding – TITANS RISING HEROIC ADVENTURE – A continuation of the starting scenario to further introduce your heroes to the World of Scion and set up some plot hooks for ongoing adventures.
With plenty more on the way if we get the pledges!
All of which is really great news, because while us doing the two book thing on Kickstarter is not new, this is the first time we’re including a book that was already available in PoD. Titanomachy has already done well for us on DTRPG, and we wondered if enough folks would be interested in backing for traditionally printed copies for us to do a print run.
So far, and we’re not even a full week into this KS, the answer is a pretty clear yes! Getting that support from backers is vital, as it justifies and helps offset the risk and expense of doing the traditional print run to get the book into distribution and stores.
Since we started working with Studio2 to put our crowdfunded books into the hands of distributors and stores, and with IPR joining in too, we have put 30+ traditionally printed titles into stores. It’s an excellent way for us, as, you know, a business, to get our projects out to folks, and we have just a ton more waiting in the wings in various stages that will join them.
As I mentioned earlier this year, we’ve been working with several different printers to cover the traditional printing, and the first of those titles, TC: Adventure!, is printing as we speak. Now we do need to really push a bunch more of our crowdfunded books over the finish line to press and into stores, but we’re in great shape to do so. So if you see or hear anybody saying that we just don’t do stores, you can feel justified in saying, “That just ain’t true!” They’ll thank you for it. (I’m sure).
Back to Titans Rising itself!
If you’re interested, especially if you are on the fence over whether to back the KS, coming this Friday on the Onyx Pathcast there’s an interview with Scion creative lead Hiromi Cota that dives right into Titans Rising and the design decisions Hiromi and the team made in bringing more focus onto the Titans.
Also on Friday, we’re thrilled to present a Titans Rising Actual Play on our Twitch channel at 7PM EDT! If you want to see some pretty titanic fanatics bring these monsters to life, this is the time and place!
TITANIC MEETING
Our Monday Meetings through the Summer have tended to have a member or two missing as folks took some much-deserved vacays, but today the full crew was present and this led to the longest Monday Meeting in months!
Even though we had a pretty intensive review of upcoming projects today, we actually do have a production strategy meeting this week where we’ll get even deeper into the nitty-gritty of our schedule. But doing it today in the Monday Meeting was a good way to get our gang all on the same page heading out of the Summer.
Part of what we discussed is that The World Below is coming! Some of you might have already picked up its Ashcan version that allows play and a start for exploring both The World Below and the Storypath Ultra system that powers it. Expect a bunch of new blogs and videos soon diving into the delving that d’elvs and darvs do vell!
As our next crowdfunding campaign, also something you might not expect is that we’ve got some fun surprises beyond the books and screens we’re known for. Look for new and returning merch to be part of The World Below‘s campaign!
If you look down at our Sales Partners section below, you’ll see that DTRPG is doing a themed sale across all publishers each week through the month. Which is kind of fun, and fits in with the whole theme of experimentation I’ve been poking at in this week’s blog. This week it’s “Action Week” so expect the appropriate PDFs to have discounted prices!
Finally, part of what we did in today’s meeting was to review the possible crowdfunding campaigns coming up thru 2024, which are really built on our experiments this last year.
We moved toward a second edition that changed its rules system with Realms of Pugmire, we looked at whether a Players Guide type of supplement would be supported by a KS with the Trinity Continuum PG (it was!), we played around with how crowdfunding campaigns function by returning to voting for new chapters with They Came From the RPG Anthology!, we pushed the premise of a whole game line that is basically rooted in science back to the Bronze Age to see how it dealt with it with TC: Aegis, and now we’re doing two books together when one was already available with Titans Rising/Titanomachy.
And then we’ll be crowdfunding a whole new game line (and the start of an entire cycle of fantasy settings) with The World Below!
I mean, you know the year was experimental when our most “standard crowdfunder” is going to be Exalted: Abyssals at the end of the year!
Yep, this year was and is very much a series of experiments based on what was coming and what the game line needed. (And what platform we crowdfunded on!) Next year, it’ll be experiments in new games more than in methods.
That’s how we stay fresh and energized as we explore:

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!
Today is Labor Day in the US; celebrated on the first Monday in September to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. I understand that Canada celebrates Labour Day today, too! And tomorrow is the birthday of the hardest laboring member of the Onyx Path: our own Art Director, Mirthful Mike Chaney. Please join all of us in celebrating ChaneyFest, as he calls it, and paint a miniature, pet a dog, and/or sit back with your favorite caffeinated beverage, or two, and watch an old, bad, action flick! Just like Mike!
It’s so great that you have Ed Greenwood working with The World Below team.
If you haven’t seen it, I had the honor to sit in on a World Below panel at Onyx Path Virtual Con with Ed, Matthew, and Cat, and it was just a blast! Here it is on our YouTube if you haven’t seen it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xg17UxhofC0
Quick query about the statuses above. The ‘At Press’ section says an ExEss novel is out to backers. I checked and I’ve not received any email about that and it’s not in my Backerkit downloads. Should that be “going out to backers” as with the Adventure Addendum rather than “out to backers” as with the Dragon Jumpstart (which I gratefully downloaded last week)?
Did you receive Update 67?
I did indeed, thank you. I’d still be curious to the answer to my original question though, largely because I’m nosy and also because I’d like to be the hero in this tale who valiantly spotted a non-problem and stepped forth to vanquish it.
You absolutely utterly crushed that non-problem! It ain’t goin’ nowhere…
Obviously the maps are really important, but since they seem to be a huge logjam is there any chance we might get the advance PDF for Across the Eight Directions sans maps Ala Monarchies of Mau or other earlier OPP projects that released the advance PDF with incomplete art?
Sure, there’s a chance. I do think that with these maps, as opposed to art, there’s a desire to make sure that the “data” depicted in the map is complete and accurate and that may mean we hold off until they can be included. But that’s not written in stone!
