Everybody’s backing it!
(And so should you!)
Very glad to say that the Deluxe W20 Apocalyptic Record Kickstarter has hit 200% funded AND has achieved the W20 Icons of Rage Stretch Goal! That will give us the impetus to create a new book that details all sorts of famous and infamous characters from Werewolf: The Apocalypse!
Let’s keep this party howling and tell all your friends! It’s like in 101 Dalmations when all the pets and farm animals howl from one to another to spread the word – except it’s werewolves!
And speaking of making pop-culture references…
Over the weekend, our friends at Mystery Science Theater 3000 announced the sponsors for their upcoming season and their streaming site – and guess what? Onyx Path is one of them!
We are thrilled to announce this, and that we’ve been talking with the gang over there about the promos they are going to be creating for us that will run during the new season!
They’ve been great to brainstorm with, and I think you’re really going to get a kick out of what their creative and twisted minds have come up with! We sure are!
This is another one of those secret things we’ve been working on that I stamped “REDACTED” on many moons ago. Or was it “CLASSIFIED”? We have so many top secret initiatives percolating right now that I can’t keep track of the darn things!
There Was Also This Here Monday Meeting Thing:
Besides the above, we talked a lot about some other secret stuff that we can’t reveal right now.
Sorry.
But we did.
Anyway, we also chatted about this last weekend and our appearances at the Save Against Fear online convention run by and for the fabulous Bodhana Group to help finance their efforts to bring TTRPGs and therapy together for the betterment of all.
I’ll get to our panels, but just a congrats to the Group and their sneak preview/demo of their own therapeutic TTRPG. What a great step forward! I won’t even name it here, but you will definitely hear more about it in the months to come!
OK, now onto the non-secret part of things, with a look at our time at SAVE. First of all, I had no reports of tech glitches from our crew. Which isn’t to say that they might not have had them, but not with any panels we were on. Which makes it so much easier for our folks to stay on-mission and cover our topics.
Matthew, Dixie, Eddy, and myself started off Onyx‘s panels on Friday with “How to Turn Old Favorites into New Favorites“. We all shared our experiences doing new editions of well-loved games, from the very first days that I did that at White Wolf, to Eddy’s work on V20, to what has been effectively Onyx Path‘s MO with the 20th Anniversary Editions for WoD, CofD 2nd Editions, and Exalted 3rd and Essence. And new editions of the Trinity games and Scion!
Matthew, who has worked on new editions too, also brought up that the basic concept of the They Came From…! games falls into the topic for the panel, as we’re taking genres that are old favorites and then turning them into new favorite TTRPGs. Good show, old chap!
And I think it was a good show, so please do check it out on the Bodhana Group’s Twitch channel, and coming soon to our YouTube channel.
On Saturday, the same crew started with the “perennial favorite” (although this might be the third time we’ve done it this year) “What’s Up With the Onyx Path?“, which we started out with the very same MST3K announcement that I mention above! Then we did much banter, and filled in where our various game lines and projects were.
Finally, Dixie, Eddy, and I, were joined by Travis Legge and the Bodhana Group‘s grand-poobah, Jack Berkenstock, to take a “Deep Delve Into the Crossroads Continent 5e Setting“.
This is my very own D&D world that Travis and I are bringing forward into the D&D 5e ruleset, and the rest of the crew were there because they were some of the players when I dusted off the setting and DM’d again after several decades at the very last physical Save Against Fear Convention two years ago.
As I’d hoped, they were able to give a player’s perspective while Travis and I could talk world building and construction.
Overall, I was kind of embarrassed by all the very kind things that were said about the CRC and how much fun they had adventuring in it during that one late-night session. And I probably talked a tad too much about the formative years when I had game sessions at least twice a week, if not more, during high school and then college – when you have time for such things!
But I do feel that in the end, the whole panel was helpfully informative as to how to create compelling game worlds and I hope y’all get a chance to watch it once we get the panels up on our YouTube channel in the near future.
(I’m also doing a drawing a day of monsters from the CRC for all of October and posting to my social media channels, including @rich_thomas_op on Twitter, if you want snippets from the world and some ink-drawn/painted pictures to go with.)
Finally, DTRPG is having a Halloween Sale, which coincides with IPR‘s Halfoween Sale – so do take advantage of those this month! The deets are below in the Sales Partners section!
I said “deets”.
Just goes to show ya, and which was something pointed out in the CRC panel: you’ve got to keep growing, trying out new media and games and books and whatever your sources of inspiration are. Old classics are great to see with new eyes, and new ideas are great to stretch our minds and abilities so we aren’t _only_ doing the same-old, same-old.
Which is why we keep exploring and creating:
Many Worlds, One Path!

On Sale This Week!
This Wednesday the door bursts open and in come google-wearing humans seeking the paranormal: Ghost Hunters for the 20th Anniversary WoD lines is here! – in spooky PDF and scary PoD versions on DTRPG!
These ghosts, and more, haunt our world. They watch us, they torment us, they play with us, they find themselves locked in Sisyphean cycles, where the only respite comes through the haunting of the living.
It is our role to hunt these spirits down. Some believe we’re laying them to a deserved rest. Others hunt for the renown and to put down the homicidal dead. Others believe they’re doing God’s work, or with every hunt, their knowledge of the paranormal world increases.
We are ghost hunters, and regardless of our motives, it is our task to ensure the dead may no longer torture the living.
Ghost Hunters includes:
• A broad, deep history of ghost hunter cells, and catalogue of weapons and artifacts ghost hunters might use in the World of Darkness.
• Playable options among the hunters that fight with bullets and blades, and those who fight with belief and supernatural power. Alongside them, those hunters who would track, cage, and study the dead.
• A wide array of story hooks and rich storytelling advice for those who wish to run a game of Ghost Hunters set alongside any of the World of Darkness games.
• An appendix containing a selection of antagonists your ghost hunters may come to face.
Conventions!
Because dates for physical conventions are subject to change due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, we don’t yet have a list of upcoming physical conventions. Instead, keep an eye out here for more virtual conventions we’re going to be involved with!

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!
It’s International Coming Out Day today! If you choose to come out, we hope it is a great moment for you!
Hmmmm. Will lore of the traditions the last ks before Christmas?
It could probably be TC Anima if we are lucky.
It should be, that’s what we’d like to do.
Timing, really. It could be, or it might lead off the year, or it might take longer. A lot of that is out of our hands and relies on Paradox and Kickstarter approvals.
Rich Bastard’s Guide is listed as ‘At Press’. When does the preview manuscript get updated?
After the book is on sale, in case there’s something wrong with the printer that we need to fix in the files.
Will the full advance pdf be posted this week? The pre-order on Drivethrurpg I made back in June still provides only the cover and first page.
As above, this week we’re putting Ghost Hunters on sale.
Should be when it goes on sale and pre-order folks will the final version then, too. Thanks!
I love the new Mythos Companion title. Seems very appropriate. I’ve got BIG plans for the Mythos (and Scion in general):)
Excellent! Keep us informed, love to hear about how those plans come together. I love it when a plan comes together!
Will do! I plan on sharing it in the Scion forums once I have something together enough to share.
And Liam Neeson was amazing in that reboot. I’m disappointed it didn’t go further.
Exxxxcelllllent!
“Overall, I was kind of embarrassed by all the very kind things that were said about the CRC and how much fun they had adventuring in it during that one late-night session.”
Well, too bad, because it was all true!
And it was certainly nice to hear. I could tell everybody was having a good time, at least until it hit 2am or whatever and folks’ eyes started glazing over, but so glad that the world came through so well and so quickly. Travis and I are very much committed to being sure that the CRC is accessible in presentation to everyone – both players and DMs. I don’t want it to feel so dense that you have to be me to run adventures there. Of course, the fact that I always forgot half of what happened from one campaign to the next might be why it feels more open for everybody to get into and make their own! “Sure, you travel four days to get there. But you said it was a week’s journey in the “evil” campaign. Uh, yeah, well time and distance can get distorted on the CRC…because of all the magic and dimensions and stuff. That’s the ticket!”
Will miss you all at PAX Unplugged this year, Rich! Though your absence is totally understandable given the (still) sh*tty circumstances. When will we all emerge from this real life Contagion Chronicle?
Time will tell, my friend. Meanwhile, I hope you can sit in on one of our online con appearances and we’ll see what 2022 brings us!
I’m tremendously excited to see what happens when Onyx Path intersects with MST3K. I learned of this from the MST3K KS monthly email, but I’m still quite gobsmacked. Can’t wait for more!
Glad to hear it! We’re pretty excited too, and we’ve had some great talks with the MST3K gang, so I guess we’ll see…
It looks like you might have stopped tagging MMMN blog posts. The last one to show up in the page linked on the Current Projects menu heading was from May. Could you start tagging those again? It’s nice to be able to look back through a few weeks and see how things are progressing over time.
I have not stopped tagging them, some folks are not seeing them listed there, and others still do. We have tried several fixes but none of them fixed the issue for everybody. You should still be able to move forward and backward through time and the blog entries via the entries themselves.
