Ghost Hunting, I say, Ghost Hunting, that is!
TOMORROW! At 2pm Eastern US time, the WoD: Ghost Hunters Deluxe 20th Anniversary Edition Kickstarter carefully enters the fray! Probably wearing those low-light goggles geared up for ectoplasm.
I’ve mentioned before, but I think it bears repeating, this is the first book we’ve done that is for the WoD 20th Anniversary Editions but not specifically from one of the game lines. More generally useful, like the old-school “A World of Darkness” black border books.
So we don’t know how well this KS will go as support isn’t just because we’re doing a new book for a long-cherished game line, especially with the short notice we’re stuck with giving people! Everyone’s support will be hugely appreciated!
More Stuff We’re Doing!
And went over in the Monday Meeting today!
First up, we’re trying something different with our Scarred Lands Community Content. Which is not unusual, we’re always experimenting with different approaches and methods towards our projects and our community.
In this case, we are offering almost an entire continent in the Scarred Lands setting for Community Content creators to fill in with their own projects. Basically, we’re going to sketch in a few areas and important stuff creators need to work with, and then let folks publish their ideas for this section of the world on the Slarecian Vault Community Content site for Scarred Lands.
We’re hoping it’ll be a lot of fun, and that creators will start to bounce ideas off of one another and play off each others’ ideas. We’ll see how it goes. Meanwhile, who better than the project originator and coordinator, Travis (Pegge) Legge to describe the Frostlands of Fenrilik project:
Frostlands of Fenrilik expands the world of Scarred Lands 5e by introducing a new continent on which to stage your adventures! This vast land is dangerous and untamed, with deadly titanspawn and a perilous climate that challenges even the heartiest travelers. It is also a land of mystery, wonder, and opportunity. Secrets and treasures can be found hidden beneath the ice, and an underground network of caves and tunnel holds the potential for grand adventure and grander reward.
Creators at the Slarecian Vault will find ample opportunity to expand, define, and explore the Roof of the World. Frostlands of Fenrilik is littered with hooks and prompts for creators to build their own adventures, settlements, and creatures. The subterranean element introduced in Frostlands of Fenrilik allows for adventures that move back and forth between geothermal caverns ripe for development to the icy surface and the challenges that await adventurers there. Enterprising creators might define whole sections of this cavernous realm, making them their own.
Do not let the focus on Community Content creation fool you though! The hooks, environments, and creatures presented in this book provide ample material for a Game Master to pick up and play, including an adventure that introduces the city of Kovokimru, takes the party to a new frontier as they explore the Tobor Gorge, introduces a new playable people in the form of the Krampek, and gives the adventurers their first introduction to one of the greatest threats the people of Fenrilik face: the monstrous Skerrai!
Great care was taken while crafting Frostlands of Fenrilik to ensure utility for Slarecian Vault creators as well as Scarred Lands players and Game Masters. There is truly something for everyone within this volume. We cannot wait to see what the community builds with this tool set!
One more reminder that myself, Dixie, Eddy, and maybe even Matthew “It’s late in the UK, dammit” Dawkins, will be on a “What’s Up With Onyx Path?” panel at Save Against Fear Virtual Con this Friday, the 9th, at 4pm Eastern US time! https://www.thebodhanagroup.org/about-the-convention
Dixie is on an additional five panels and a game, Eddy is on three or four other panels, and Travis is running three games for us during the con – and other folks are also running our games, too!
So if you’ve been a bit leery of trying out online gaming, this is a low-stress way to start, and it’s for a great cause: our friends at the Bodhana Group who are one of the world’s leading advocates for the use of tabletop gaming for therapy!
Sort of along the same lines, we’re running two of our Developer Town Halls tomorrow, where we open up the floor to our many developers and we go over their concerns and trials and triumphs. We’ve been doing these all during the pandemic just to provide another venue for our folks to get some face-to-face time with the Onyx Path in-house crew, but also with their fellow devs.
If you have any questions or comments you’d like me to share with our developers, please go ahead and put them in the blog comments below!
Another thing you can comment on, if you want to, comes out of the idea that we think it would be helpful to send out an Onyx Path Survey for our community. It’s been an… unusual… year, and we’ve weathered the many storms and have put out some great projects this year and really built up our online presence, but we didn’t get to a bunch of the stuff we thought we would when the crew met last January.
We’re going to need to re-calibrate, for sure, as we approach the last few months of 2020, so we’re thinking some direct input from all of you might be really helpful. I mean, besides the direct “you suck!” kind!
So before we set one up and get it out with the kinds of questions we think we need to ask, we’d love to hear from any of you that have ideas for what we should put in the survey. Even what kind of survey as I know a lot of people have strong opinions on length and format. As always, just drop them right here in the Comments.
After all, we might make our many delightful, dark, and dramatic game worlds, but you folks are an important part of our:

Virtual TableTop!
Introducing a Virtual Tabletop adventure: the Gauntlet of Spiragos for Scarred Lands on Astral TableTop!
Scars of the Divine War, which ended less than 200 years ago, have still not healed. One such scar is the Chasm of Flies, a rent in the earth created when the titan Spiragos the Ambusher was smote down by one of the young gods, Vangal the Ravager. Now, the Chasm is inhabited by spider-eye goblins and their spider allies, but it is also thought to be the resting place of powerful artifacts from that elder age.
Gauntlet of Spiragos is a Scarred Lands adventure designed for 1st level characters, although it can be easily modified for characters of up to 5th level.
Astral TableTop is the easiest way to play any tabletop RPG online, free. Astral already supports popular systems like D&D and Pathfinder, and Astral can support virtually any tabletop roleplaying game. Get started quickly with built-in support for most popular game systems. Whether youβre brand new to TTRPGs or a veteran tabletop gamer, Astralβs ease-of-use and built in automation is designed to streamline gameplay.
Astral is browser-based and uses the latest technology to streamline your storytelling experience. Connect with your party online and run your campaigns however you like. Astral offers tools optimized for phone, tablet, and desktop devices, no installation required.
Build epic battlemaps using Astralβs enormous collection of scenery, props, and tokens or upload your own. Pro users gain access to over 12,000+ assets and fresh new packs every month. Add weather, visual effects, triggers, and so much more with easy-to-use tools
Build your own adventure, or choose from pre-generated game kits like Gauntlet of Spiragos. Create character sheets, craft maps, or just jump right in to connect with your friends and start your adventures!

Once they reigned over the First Age alongside the Solars, but in this fallen era, ten thousand Dragon-Blooded sit upon Creationβs stolen throne. It details the Silver Pact, its ancient vendetta, and the Lunar dominions spread throughout Creation. It also contains Lunar character creation, Charms, and rules for shapeshifting, as well as new Merits, spells, martial arts, and artifacts that can be included in any game.

Todayβs Reason to Celebrate!
Lot’s of Onyx Path-y stuff this week:
- back on Oct 2 was Scarred Lands‘ 20th anniversary!
- Today is Justin Achilli’s birthday – Hooray to Justin for living another year!
- Tomorrow is the anniversary of the release of the original Scarred Lands Campaign Setting: Termana!
- Friday is the 1 year anniversary of the Pugmire Phone PDF!
Lunars PoD this week? What a perfect early birthday gift! Thanks to everyone on the OPP Exalted team for putting out such an excellent product!
We’re really glad that folks seem to really like this newest edition’s Lunars. The team did a huge amount of work on them, and with this Weds’s releases and the KS, we’re thrilled that everyone can start playing them! Thanks!
Ghost Hunters!
Boo! Um… In a ghosty way, not the other kind.
Yes, also excited!
Yes! In a little over an hour as I write this!
Wit the new of WoD: Ghost Hunters Deluxe 20th Anniversary Edition coming I’m wondering if Paradox has shown any interest in going forward with more 20th Anniversary editions of the remain core books like Demon the Fallen or some version of KoE? If so is there motivation to develop those core books or revist their material?
Casey,Casey, Casey I feel your pain. We still haven’t heard of any changes to their plans, sorry.
Oh yeah, you guys suck …
… The money right from my wallet. hehe π
So basically over the last few days I bought pod versions of the 20th anniversary editions of both Vampire and Dark Age Vampire and also Mage the Awakening 2nd edition. (I super like Atlantis and wasn’t really a fan of Vampire 2 or God-Machine or Contagion but really liked Mummy 2 and so I have been on the fence on Mage 2nd but after some further looking into it I decided to give it a go.)
So yeah, with my now owning the 20th anniversary of Mage (I bought that a while ago), Vampire, and Dark Ages Vampire I totally will be looking at the Ghost Hunters kickstarter. If nothing else I will look at the previews by sponsoring it at a low level in order to see if the topic is super interests me or not.

Other comments. I saw Anima moving up a bit, that’s cool.
I’m not seeing any movement in Mummy 2e, Aberrant, or Adventure! which is a bit sad but at the same time understandable.
Though, honestly, truthfully, out of the three I really really really, like really, would love some Adventure! love. Its like calling to me and I hope that call can be answered soon.
I will finish this comment by saying, if you post a survey I will look at it. That said I hope its a bit better than the survey put out by White Wolf like a year or so ago wherein it was like “do you like Vampire a lot or a little.” Which at the end made me go “this really didn’t seem that helpful to anyone.”
(I get that it wasn’t you guys, I’m just sayin.)
So yeah, you put out a survey, I will answer it.
Beyond all that, good work you all, thumbs up, and I’m looking forward to what the future brings when it comes to your products.
Good points, there, and I also appreciate you providing an example of a different company’s survey that didn’t work for you. These are the sorts of potholes in the road we want to avoid. Thanks!
Also, TC: Aberrant has moved, just within the proofing phase – which can have many back and forths.
Talking about Aberrant, I hope your notes are short and very positive!
Positive? Yes, they are not bad. Short? Pretty much, but the effort to make the changes will take longer than it took for me to write the notes, so….
Oh, oops hit enter too soon, so one more question. Speaking of the WoD 20th Anniversary editions, I was wondering if there has been any talk about Dark Ages Mage. I totally love the Foundation and Pillar system of magic in that book and would be interested in seeing a more updated version. π
Fun fact: My dad wanted to name me Peg if I was a girl, Harold if I was a boy.
Peg or Harry Legge? Cruel man.
He had a particular sense of humor. My mom won the debate and I was named after a soap opera character.
I kinda wish she had lost.
So you could have been Brock, Ridge, Thorne, or Storm?
I’ll definitely take a survey, the longer the better! As far as questions, some ideas, depending on how you focus it:
* if we KS in the next year, (how) would you back?
Broad
* which aspects of an OP game/book have you taken and applied to other games (OP or not)?
* Relative to other RPGs, how hard do you find it to start games? To maintain them? Why?
* What is your impression of OP compared to other RPG companies? What do we do better, worse, just plain different?
Line-by-Line
* which game lines have you purchased? Physical?
* which game lines have you played? Run?
* which game lines do you tend to ignore?
* which game lines are an immediate buy/KS-back?
Non-game activities
* what would you like OP to do as far as Community Content? (shutter it all, good as is, more experiments like Frostlands of Fenrilik, community or OP “bounty board”, etc.)
* what would you like OP to do as far as virtual gaming? (more assets, community play, etc.)
* what would you like OP to do as far as Actual Plays? (more “normal” ones, more “weird” ones, more tutorial-focused ones, etc.)
* what would you like OP to do with Monday Meeting Notes? (remove X section, talk more about X, add collapsible sections, etc.)
apparently I used bad characters. Was supposed to be:
* if we KS (Book) in the next year, (how) would you back?
I was struggling to come up with worthwhile suggestions so I am glad to see your well thought out list! Consider it seconded.
Excellent and varied list! Thanks!
Richt, are we really just your notes and some art away from TC: Aberrant? I’m super excited!
Well, sure, but bear in mind that my notes may or may not involve changes that take time, or even a lot of time. Proofing is very much a back and forth thing.
Noticed the art note about Masks of the Mythos being KS ready. Thanks for giving my wallet at least a month to recover from Demigod. π
This is probably the most straightforward feedback I can give you, survey or no: I have a tight budget and Scion is getting the lion’s share of my disposable income (and were it not for a shift in my gaming group’s focus, CofD would be getting it instead). That means that out of all the games or hobbies I could invest in, Onyx Path has both the first AND second slots. I vote with my dollar and you all have repeatedly earned it over the last 8 years. Please, keep up the amazing work!
Thanks so much!
I would like to know if, going forward, you could mark what books will be full kickstarters and which ones will just be available when the work is done on them?
There are very few lines of yours that I do not back but it would be good to know if I have to wait months for the kickstarter for some products (since you usually run a KS for about a month) or if we can know that we can get X book just by itself.
We only plan our Kickstarters one or two ahead of time, and sometimes we consider something to be a Kickstarter that we later decide to just release, so that’s not something we can provide. But keep reading the Monday Meeting blog for updates!
Trinity Continuum: Anima? Please, tell us more…
Announcement: https://theonyxpath.com/onyx-path-publishing-announces-anima-for-trinity-continuum/
Onyx Podcast: https://theonyxpath.com/episode-105-wats-up-with-ian-a-a-watson/
Polyhedron interview: http://metahedronstudios.com/polyhedron/2020/6/4/polyhedron-ep-109-what-is-anima-w-ian-watson-and-eddy-webb
It seems like it would be valuable to include some questions in the survey about overall transparency on the part of OPP: do readers/players feel that the company communicates well with customers and how?
On an entirely unrelated note, the Exaltcast episode on Alchemicals has made me excited at the prospect of playing one for the first time! Very cool π
Fair question! Thanks!
I noticed the Trinity Continuum: Aberrant main book is not only the list of projects anymore. Does that means it is just about to be released??
No, it’s in layout proofing. Still work to be done on it, but not tons.
Will Ghost Hunter include any content geared towards incorporating into a Hunter: the Vigil or Geist campaign? For instance, new ghost hunter Compacts?
It’s WoD: Ghost Hunters, so it won’t be written to include direct references to any Chronicles of Darkness game lines. That being said, it could be useful to pull from. You can judge that yourself by backing and reading the text as it is released to backers over the course of the KS. If you don’t like it, you can drop your pledge before Halloween (Oct 31st) and no harm, no foul.
Oh, right! WoD, not CoD. I should’ve picked up on that. (I suppose what threw me was that all the other recent “World of Darkness: X” titles have been for Chronicles before it was Chronicles.)
Crucible of legends has been in manuscript approval for like 2 months. Just curious if there is any update or movement there? Been itching for new exalted content!
Us too! The degree of info and granularity you see in the Monday Meeting Notes is as detailed as we can get without spending all of our time sending out updates – because we have a lot of projects we’re working on across all of our game lines! Once Crucible moves into another phase you’ll see it happen on the MMN progress report, no worries!
