Feeling a lot better, but am still fighting the last bits of this flu or whatever it is. Last week, though, was a sort of semi-conscious staggering from the one thing I could focus on each day to trying to rest/medicate/cough this thing out until the next day and the one thing I could concentrate on that day. And so on.
I did manage to work with BackerKit to send out the links for the Backer PDF for Pugmire. There was a hiccup on coding that they fixed pretty fast, all things considered, and then I not only Locked Down the pledges, but charged them for any additional Add-ons they might have added on to their pledges.
I think the timing for these three steps basically worked as intended by BK, so that’s good to see happen with our first use of their system. Next will come the address corrections right before shipping; so a few months down the line. Until we Shut Down the project then, anybody interested can still “Pre-Order” a bunch of Pugmire things like the books, and dice, and such. Here’s the link: https://pugmire-fantasy-tabletop-rpg.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders
We’ll do a similar sequence for the Deluxe Changeling 20 KS, the Deluxe v20 Beckett’s Jyhad Diary KS, and the Scion 2e KS as their Backer PDFs get finished.
FYI, a Backer PDF is basically the beta version of the final book. Pretty much just like the Advance PDFs for our non-Kickstarted projects, we’re sending them out to folks to review and to get back to us with any errata they might find. Then, after we review and implement any errata that we agree needs tweaking, we replace the Backer or Advance PDF with the final version. Anybody who downloaded the Backer or Advance PDF can then re-download the PDF and get the final version automatically, and for free, as it sits in their DTRPG Library.
Strategy-wise, we’ve found that this errata phase really helps catch those last lingering bits that our developers and editors missed for any number of a variety of reasons. Most of all, though, it’s because no text is ever perfect. There is always something everybody missed. With this errata phase, we’re trying to get closer than ever before to catching as many boo-boos as humanly possible.
Thanks to everyone who jumped in and contributed to the Hunter: the Vigil Bundle of Holding that just ran. It was great to see so much support and interest in HtV, particularly with Hunter 2nd Edition starting to get fired up. And the Bundle also contributed to a great cause.
Going to keep this week short, and hopefully I’ll be back to my old self next week <hack, cough>.
BLURBS!
KICKSTARTER!
We’re exploring card game Kickstarters, packaging, and components, for Prince’s Gambit. I’m working on the KS pages this week for sure, and our videos are finished. Things look good, and we are all for starting the KS in Feb so long as the process of pulling the KS together cooperates. If so, then Monarchies of Mau KS would be next, after Gambit.

From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: Doubting Souls (Hunter 1690-1695 Salem). Immigrants and tribes struggled to co-exist on the Eastern Seaboard in the ever-expanding Colonies. Violent clashes, supernatural beliefs, and demonic influences spelled disaster for Salem Village and its surrounding towns, while others fought werewolves and vampires on the frontier. With so much at risk, only god-fearing men and women were deemed innocent — and those were few indeed.

From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: The Bowery Dogs (Werewolf 1969-1979 NYC). New York City in the 1970s. Crime. Drugs. Gang violence. Vast economic disparity. And werewolves. It’s a lean, ugly time to be alive, and the lone wolf doesn’t stand a chance out there. In the end, all you really have is family.

From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: Ruins of Empire (Mummy 1893-1924). Perhaps the quintessential era of the mummy in the minds of Westerners, this period saw the decline of the two greatest empires of the age: British and Ottoman. Walk with the Arisen as they bear witness to the death of the Victorian age, to pivotal mortal discoveries in Egypt, and to the horrors of the Great War.

From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: The Sundered World (Werewolf and Mage 5500-5000 BCE). At the birth of civilization, in the shadow of the Fall, the Awakened stand as champions and protectors of the agricultural villages spread across the Balkans. In a world without a Gauntlet, where Shadow and flesh mingle, the steady taming of the world by humanity conflicts with the half-spirit children of Father Wolf.

Rawhead and bloody bones
Steals naughty children from their homes,
Takes them to his dirty den
And they are never seen again.
So says the nursery rhyme that gives birth to Rawhead, the most fearsome entity to imperil the living since the infamous Roller. Once an obedient mummy by name of Benefre, a desperate bid by his cult fails in tragic fashion, and in so doing, sends him to the Devourerís waiting, corruptive maw. What remains of Benefreís ambitious soul rises again, impure and unholy, set to the execution of a scheme so baleful, it constitutes a heresy even among his own misbegotten kind.
All that stands between Rawhead and his terrible aim are a lone mummy, Kemsiyet, and what little remains of her cult following its destruction at Rawhead’s hands. Declan, her prized security aide, and Fiona, an Irish researcher only just recently inducted into the cult and its blood-soaked world, must fight both the odds and the clock in order to prevent a calamity the likes of which the world hasnít seen since the days of the mummies’ creation.

TODAY’S REASON TO CELEBRATE: Feb 13th: QUICK! Get out tonight and buy some candy, a toy, flowers, adult novelties, a puppy, champagne, more candy – but different, or at least a flippin’ card, for your mostest loved one. Even though it’s a made-up, capitalist holiday…it’s the thought that counts (and that you’ll be judged for).
I hope you’re getting more feedback like this, but I really like the single chapter pdfs of Dark Eras and hope to see all of them alongside the companion chapters make their way to smaller pdfs and books. Personally I think it’s a better resource for players trying to get into the setting then pulling six hundred pages of “don’t you damage this tome” off the shelf. On top of that, a year from now maybe two I would imagine that the single chapters will be a boon to players getting into CofD come 2020.
Actually, let me thank you so much for your feedback on these. The more folks write in (and write reviews on DTRPG), the more data we have to work from. And we never get enough commentary, so please everybody, it really does help to hear these things directly from you all!
If I hadn’t backed the tome I would definitely buy the specific era’s of interest. I’ll also heartily recommend the single chapters to any of my friends that want an era but not the whole book. Its a great option for us – thank you!
Since there are artist shenanigans on Dark Eras: Companions, would it be possible to get a text preview of one of the eras to KS backers? Perhaps, the Mutapa Empire?
Glad you’re feeling better. The flu is no joke.
I would love this!
Yep, I’m not laughing. Just coughing 🙂
Previews are up to the developers – we’re always glad to post them!
The artwork for the mage book of secrets looks snazzy ! Also im glad that C20 is close to the finish line.
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Is that Perfect Soul and Karal Fire Orchid standing together in that picture (and Panther too, I guess)? ‘Cause Perfect Soul and Karal Fire Orchid standing together is the greatest thing ever.
That might be the best piece of exalted art yet in EX3, its not action packed or anything but still looks really accomplished and hits the tone of exalted right on the head. A lot of the core book still feels tonaly off to me, like they didn’t understand the setting or style guide. I’m not familiar with “Gunship”, but I hope we will see more of their work in the future!
The guys at Gunship Revolution worked on Ex2 back in the day… although I can’t remember what name the studio was using back then.
Glad you like it! All of the art was reviewed and approved by the developers, so if there were any images inappropriate for the setting of EX3, they would have let us know.
You’ll have to find out when the EX3 Jumpstart gets out to backers! 😉
I know a lot of people that catch the “Con cough” after conventions. It sucks, glad you are feeling better
Not sure this is a con-crud thing, but just this winter’s flu. But yeah, getting better – thanks!
Can we get an update about the W20 dice rolling app please? It’s in its 4th year of development and there havent been any updates via Kickstarter for a very long time.
We’re still working on dice-rolling apps, and our devoted Deluxe W20 backers are still set to receive their complementary version for W20.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before but the idea behind the Advance PDFs is great. I’ve read most of the earlier nWoD books (2004-2007/8) and found a lot of proofing errors that really broke the flow of reading sometimes (just look at the 1/4 page note about layout in “Lancea Sanctum”).
The most recent books are largely free of those problems and it helps with both read time and also comprehension.
Thanks! We’ve got a really great group of editors here that Rollickin’ Rose has worked really hard to pull together, but even they can miss things. It’s the nature of publishing. A couple hundred pairs of eyes are just more likely to catch those last things than a half-dozen pairs of eyes.
Hello, why is the hardcover from nWoD corebook not available anymore? My book is in bad condition and I want buy a new one.
Also I look for POD option for nWoD Immortals and CtL Swords at Dawn.
Will we get this in future?
That’s not something we had anything to do with. As for the two books you mentioned, it’s all about whether the files are still good, and how hard it is to recreate them for PoD printing. Knowing how things work, I bet they both had issues. DTRPG try and get to those as time and resources allow, but Onyx Path doesn’t actually make those happen.
Just a question, but the Hurt Locker PDF on drivethrurpg was recently updated. Was that just for minor editing corrections, or was something significant changed?
That was probably the finalized PDF.
We release an advance PDF and collect errata from fans, then we incorporate those errata and release a final PDF alongside the print option.
Nice!! I am really looking forward to getting my hands on the Lore of the Bloodlines and DAV20 Companion, VtR: A Thousand years of Night , C20, Becketts Jyhad Diary and M20: Book of Secrets. Most of these books are on the way so I could not be happier right now. Have been looking forward to read the new material on the various Bloodlines since the LotC Kickstarter. Just hoping my beloved Salubri and Kiasyd were given a fair representation and that there is a lot of new lore, mechanics, merits + flaws and the like in the Lore of the Bloodlines Book. As a small question, do we have any estimate on when the LotB Book will be released? Thanks for taking your time and reading and responding to this. I will eagerly await any news about the releases of these and more coming books from OPP. Thanks alot for the awsome work you guys do and for the sheer fact that you exist.
Thanks! No, we don’t give out estimates on the timing of the production stages right through to release. But we provide the weekly update so you can see as the stages are completed.
I fully 2nd this for LotB, DAV20 Companion, and Beckett’s Diary. I can’t wait to give you my money for these.
We’ll be thrilled to take it once the books are ready!
Geist 2E is in Second Draft stage!!!!! Awesome!!!!!! Really made my St. Valentine’s Day. Is there any chance of applying to be a Geist 2E playtester?
I don’t know. We’ll ask Travis. Thanks!
I was curious about the Changeling 20th Anthology. Given how quickly most anthologies go through art direction and layout it seems viable that the anthology could be finished before C20. Is releasing the anthology before the core book a possibility? Personally I think that would be pretty cool as the fiction would sort of develop and appetite for the game itself, but I wasn’t sure if that was something you would do.
We’re open to the fiction hitting before, after, or at the same time- so long as the stories are evocative of the direction the line is heading. I had intended all the CofD 2nd Editions to have fiction out earlier than the game book release for exactly the reason you suggest. As an appetizer before the main course.
Awesome. Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it especially since I recently got over a wave of coughing crud and I know taking the time to go through these is probably a bit more of a lift that normal. I’m really excited about the C20 Anthology especially given some of the comments Matt made about themes for this edition in his playtesting forum posts, so this is definitely very cool.
Good luck on clearing out the seasonal ick. I just hope yours doesn’t stay with you as long as mine did.
It really has been a longer bout than what I remember.
Really happy to see Sin-Eaters 2nd Edition moving forward. I have a whole group of players ready to the new version.
I missed Ghost Hunters entirely and seeing that pop-up makes my day. I had a lot of fun running ghost stories for mortal characters previously.
Glad to hear it! All kinds of spooky goodness is coming your way!
Please do take care of yourself, Rich.
Thanks, getting there.
I have to say, I’m super looking forward to Arms of the Chosen, as an Exalted fan-person, I’m super hyped to see Realm and Dragonblooded as well, but yeah, arms of the chosen plz.
I hope we get a Changeling the Lost 2e Kick starter before it’s released.
We’re still considering that possibility. Thanks!
I’d like to second that motion.
I joined the club on Pugmire through Backerkit after the kickstarter was over. Will I get to help edit the pdf too? I never saw the links come to me, but perhaps that’s because I’m not as specials as the Kickstarterers 😉
The Backer PDF is exactly that, a benefit folks get for backing the KS when it was running. There’s no value judgment being made on folks who come along via BackerKit, we’re glad to have you involved!
