Fifteen Years and Counting! [Monday Meeting Notes]

15 years! Wow!

Onyx Path is now in its 15th year of doing business, and it’s just amazing that we’ve been able to create in this funny lil business of TTRPGs for so many years!

I truly never expected that I’d be fortunate enough to still be creating worlds and drawing monsters when I founded Onyx Path all those years ago. I just had a lot of hope that we could restore a bunch of old game lines, and create a bunch of new ones, and that you would all like them!

Because, the biggest thing about being around this long is that we absolutely could not have done it without all of you! Our community, both past and present, is what keeps us going. Obviously, on a financial level, but also as the folks we create for. Without you, we’d be doing different jobs and have a stack of partial games on our hard drives or in our closets.

You’ve provided feedback that helps us make our game worlds cooler, and while folks come and go – both in our community and our creators – we’ve also been around long enough now that a lot of our creators over the years have come from our community. Which is pretty fantastic!

Onyx Path has never been set up to be a corporate behemoth – we’ve never been larger than a handful of full-time folks – but rather, our strength and wealth are in the hundreds and hundreds of freelance creators we’ve worked with all these years. Some that have worked with us all 15 years, some that come and go, and some that have moved on – hopefully to even greater success. We’re just glad that Onyx has been a place where so much creativity could be given a place to flourish!

15 years, at about a project released a week, is a lot of raw material for an enormous number of games!

So in honor of all those games over all those years, we’re going to be doing celebratory stuff all year. Special anniversary sales and discounts, new celebratory merch, some celebratory panels at Onyx Path Virtual Con, I’m sure, and we’re hoping to lure a few of our old friends back for some special projects. Stay tuned in the weeks and months to come!

Not directly tied to our 15th anniversary: but I guess we can only be part of the New Year, New Game Sale on DTRPG because we made it this far! Starting Tuesday the 6th and pretty much all of our core games and Jumpstarts are 50% off or even more!

Looking back very specifically at last year and not the other fourteen, Impish Ian has put together the famous Year End Retrospective for 2025, so please enjoy: https://theonyxpath.com/release-retrospective-2025/

And looking forward we have our Onyx Path crew with what they are looking forward to this coming year!

Matthew: I’m looking forward to what we have planned for the Earthbane Cycle! We’ve released The World Below, At the Gates and Monster Kingdoms are in progress, and another game in the cycle with a very different tone is currently under review… Stay tuned!

Ian: Trinity: Battleground just released via our partners at Faceless Publishing, so I’m looking forward to seeing people print and paint ’em all, maybe even at a larger-than-expected scale for all those sweet details! I’m also looking forward to seeing what people do with the big toolbox that is Storypath Ultra as the manual works its way out!

Mike:

  • Getting Curseborne printed and in stores… all of it book, screen, dice, all that jazz
  • Storypath Ultra Core getting out to backers and players soon
  • The three scheduled Aberrant books getting out there…

Travis: There’s plenty to look forward to in 2026! With more Storypath Ultra material making its way into the world I cannot wait to see how the fans play around with this ruleset! I’m also looking forward to getting the Scarred Lands Player’s Guide for Savage Worlds out to backers and released to the public! Planning is also getting starter for the next OPP Con and we have some very exciting ideas in the works for that. I can’t wait to see how this year plays out!

Eddy: I’m looking forward to Lair of the Rat Kings, the first (next if you count Curious Cats of Mau) big campaign for Realms of Pugmire. I really enjoy the slightly different flavor the Underneath offers to the setting, and I can’t wait to see what everyone does with their drafts!

Dixie: I’m looking forward to people getting to see and play Monster Kingdoms as well as more Curseborne. I’m also looking forward to some upcoming projects, both announced and not! I also always look forward to seeing the final art for anything I’ve worked on. Mostly, though, I’m looking forward to another year working with and alongside the brilliant creatives we get to work with over here at Onyx Path, from artists to writers to community-content producers to the in-house crew!

RichT: Right now I’m having fun with prepping for our crowdfunders this year, doing more work on the iconography of Monster Kingdoms, and the amazing next big Curseborne release that you’ll be hearing about all through this year. I’m thrilled to be working with Mirthful Mike and our new printer to get our traditionally printed books rolling out again – which we hope to accelerate in ’26 – and, of course, a bunch of secret projects you’ll hear more about this year, too!

Travis also wanted to talk a bit about our Twitch channel, so here he is:

Since we launched our twitch channel we’ve been sharing graphic and text schedules here on the Monday Meeting blog. As we enter 2026, we’ll be shifting away from that practice. The schedule will still appear on our Twitch channel at https://www.twitch.tv/theonyxpath each week, and we will announce special events, new show launches, and other items of interest here on the blog, but we will no longer be posting weekly graphics here.

If you want to make sure you don’t miss any of our actual plays, interviews, lore dives, and storyguide tips, be sure to follow us on Twitch and click the bell on our profile to be notified when we go live! We have plenty of new programming in the works, so keep an eye on this space as we announce new shows and bring a slew of brand new content to the Onyx Path Twitch!

And if you are interested in creating content, joining the cast of an actual play, or otherwise generating media about our games, please be sure to let us know by filling out our content creator form at  https://forms.gle/aqTBztswhRQLMADd9

Thanks, Travis!

As you can see from Travis’ note, even after 15 years, we’re constantly evaluating and adapting to the changing needs of our community (anybody remember LiveJournal and/or Eddy’s audio blogs back when we started?) We are always reinventing how we do things and just what things we do.

That’s how we stay fresh as a business, and as creators. Curseborne‘s “workshop” methodology I talked about last year was a huge stretch for the team here, as well as for a lot of our freelancers, but in the end we were able to create in ways we hadn’t before. Which is what a look at a 15 year span of time has to encourage, so that we’re all making all the cool for you in all our:

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!

Happy 85th birthday to Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎 駿 or 宮﨑 駿), the legendary Japanese animator, filmmaker, and manga artist. Throughout his career, Miyazaki has attained international acclaim as a masterful storyteller and creator of Japanese animated feature films, and is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished filmmakers in the history of animation. He wrote and illustrated the manga Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1982–1994) and directed the 1984 film adaptation. He co-founded Studio Ghibli in 1985, writing and directing films such as Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989), and Porco Rosso (1992), which were met with critical and commercial success in Japan. Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke (1997) was the first animated film to win the Japan Academy Film Prize for Picture of the Year and briefly became the highest-grossing film in Japan; its Western distribution increased Ghibli’s worldwide popularity and influence. Spirited Away (2001) became Japan’s highest-grossing film and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature; it is frequently ranked among the greatest films of the 21st century. Miyazaki’s later films—Howl’s Moving Castle (2004), Ponyo (2008), and The Wind Rises (2013)—also enjoyed critical and commercial success. He retired from feature films in 2013 but later returned to make The Boy and the Heron (2023), which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

    • Absolutely! And because Alex is one of our very long term freelance creators, going back to my WW days, it seemed fitting to preview that new art there in the blog as I’m talking about that very topic.
