Go Go to GoGo! [Monday Meeting Notes]

Even if you have to teleport!

With almost a week in, our IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign Reprint Repro-A-Go-Go! is a bit over 300% funded (we hit funding the first day) and we’re looking at having nine days left of our mini-campaign to get three of our books reprinted!

So far, we’re thrilled that a bunch of folks have jumped in on this – it’s a really good deal if getting a reprint of the traditional printing is something you’re looking for!

It’s all about just kind of opening the door for folks to have some fun and a deal with us going to reprints (which is normally something that happens behind the scenes). But you know Onyx Path – if we can do things so it’s more fun for our community, we can’t resist!

It doesn’t hurt that these are the core books for their game lines. If you want to play and of the Trinity Continuum lines, you need TC Core for all the basic rules. And then if you have that and want to play TC: Aeon, well yeah, you need the TC: Aeon core.

Scion: Origin is a bit different as it is the first in a series of cores for Scion 2e: Origin, Hero, Demigod, God – and if you want to step outside the “main trunk” of Scion 2e and add in Scion: Dragon and/or Scion: Masks of the (Cthulhu) Mythos…you’ll need Scion: Origin as well.

For more info on what’s specifically in our three reprints: this coming Friday’s Onyx Pathcast features our hosts taking deep dives into the books in question and laying out their thoughts on ALL the content! Every lil’ drop of info will be put under a microscope and examined.

I mean, I guess! I’m told each week what they’ll be talking about, I add it into this Monday Meeting Notes Blog, and hope that when I listen to it on Friday that they’ll stay on target in the midst of all the laughter and digressions. And to be fair, they usually do!

Not to brag or anything, but just want to note that Across the 8 Directions for Exalted 3e is still #1 on DTRPG:

And Scion‘s Once and Future is hanging in there at #11!

OK, maybe a bit of bragging – but only so I can congratulate the creative teams on both books for their super efforts! In fact, we’re so excited and proud that we’re celebrating a different way this Wednesday: we’re offering Once and Future items featuring art and the pantheon symbols from the book on our RedBubble store!

Which leads to a quick heads-up because we actually don’t know how long it goes: RedBubble is having a 25% off site-wide sale – so if you’re looking for art and/or symbol emblazoned gear from our game lines, now’s a great opportunity!

Related to the reprints campaign and all, we’ve been notified that our overseas printer will be closed for some or all of February, and that will naturally mean that our traditionally printed books will be affected – although to what degree we don’t know yet as we were aware that this is one of the bumps encountered with printing/shipping overseas.

So we – led by Mirthful Mike – have been trying to space out what we have over there and trying to time it so any February Holiday gaps won’t slow things down too much. We’ll see, as this is our first year doing this with them.

They already surprised us with the speed that W20 Apocalyptic Record got shipped out to Studio2…it might be there already!

Some MMN Blog Thoughts

As y’all know, I’ve been knocking together the Monday Meeting Notes Blog for over a decade. In fact, I’ve been doing some version of this for years before Onyx Path, back in the WW Live Journal days!

Although the format has evolved in terms of just what info shows up here and how/where it’s presented, the methodology is pretty much the same: we have our Monday Meeting, I get notes from that meeting, and then I transcribe them in order to create the blog. These days, I can cut/paste a lot of info from the various reports that our Monday Meeting crew refer to during the meeting, so that makes it A LOT easier.

But the body of the blog – that stuff before I figure out a segue into “Many Worlds, One Path”, the blog title, and the Reason to Celebrate are all me. Can’t blame anybody else for all that!

So here still in January of a new year, I figure it’s a good chance to reach out to all of you and encourage you to let me know if the format and the kinds of info we’re putting out there each week, and that I’m spending most of Monday into the evening writing and formatting is working for you.

For example, last January we changed how we did the weekly Progress Reports so that we were talking about the progress made by those projects that had it, and not listing all the projects that were at a stage where they weren’t moving. Ian still provides a static list of everything each month with the Release Round-Up, though, as we figured that some folks would want to be sure their favs were still on the list!

So then, this here January I ask: other changes?

What would you folks like to see? More coverage of some items, less coverage of others? More sales updates in the “body” of the blog, or let those be in the relevant sections in the Blurbs?

How about the Reason to Celebrate? Which goes back longer than the blog onto Live Journal, actually. (And might have been created by Eddy when he was posting these). Keep it? Only cover Onyx/WW anniversaries of releases? Don’t cover project stuff at all?

I know you all want to know about the birthdays and death anniversaries of 70s comic book artists and such. I’m sure that’s a favorite part. Right??

Seriously, please let me know in the Comments section below what you want to see here, and what really doesn’t work for you- we’re all in this together, after, talkin’ about our:

Many Worlds, One Path!

DEVELOPMENT STATUS FROM EDDY

Here are the projects that moved to the next stage of production:

Development

Scion – Titans Rising: Gifts of the Titans

  • Matthew: This book truly is a Gift from the Titans (and of the Titans) as it’s entered development on a nice, efficient schedule! I’ll try to get some previews for this one out in the next month or so.

ART DIRECTION FROM MIKE CHANEY!

In Art Direction

  • Ex3 Sidereals – I believe it’s all contracted out.
  • Ex Essence Pillars of Creation – Gonna see if Mel and Priscilla would like to do a larger batch of art than the 2 or 3 they usually do.
  • Ex Essence Tomb of Memory (Jumpstart) – Mel is on it… as is Mr. Wilson doing up the map.
  • SCION Titans Rising – Art buy configured, notes in progress.
  • TC Aegis – I still owe Eddy an art breakdown
  • COFD Contagion Chronicles RMCs – About half of the portraits are done… full and cover will probably end up being the last couple of items.
  • Curious Cats (KS) – Trying to get Navela back on track.

In Layout

  • Ex Essence Charm Cards
  • DTR Clade Companion
  • CTL 2e the Hedge – Art approved.
  • M20 Victorian Jumpstart
  • SCION God 2e – I’m knocking out the character sheet this week. I think Travis may have a proof… but i need to review it before I move it into proofing.
  • TC Aether – Finishing up the reassigning of the missing art.
  • TC Anima Terra Surge Screen – Trying to knock this one out this week…

Proofing

  • Many Faced Strangers

Indexing

  • They Came From the Cyclops’s Cave
  • They Came From CLASSIFIED!
  • Ex 3 Exigents

At Press

  • Reprints:
  • Scion Origin – Slowly but surely.  Been fixing some minor layout stuff as we have some text shift due to swapping out the invalid font types for current ones.
  • TC Core – Still need to make corrections. I don’t think font issues will be a thing on that one.
  • TC Aeon – Still need to make corrections.
  • W20 Apocalyptic Record – Should be at Studio2 today and backer shipping could start soon.
  • W20 Apocalyptic Record Screen & Booklet – At Studio 2.
  • Exalted Essence – At Press. Awaiting proofs.
  • Ex Essence Screen – At Studio 2.
  • Ex3 Exigents – Indexing.
  • TC Anima – Sending it off to press.
  • M20 Lore of the Traditions – Reviewing trad printer proofs.
  • They Came From CLASSIFIED! – Indexing.
  • They Came From the Cyclops Cave! – Indexing.
  • Scion Once and Future – PoD files uploaded to DTRPG.
  • Ex3 Across the 8 Directions – Errata closed.

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!

Some two-fers on Janus the 22nd: 1879 – The Battle of Isandlwana during the Anglo-Zulu War results in a British defeat. The Battle of Rorke’s Drift, also during the Anglo-Zulu War and just some 15 km (9.3 mi) away from Isandlwana, results in a British victory. 1968 – Apollo Program: Apollo 5 lifts off carrying the first Lunar module into space. Then, 1973 – The crew of Apollo 17 addresses a joint session of Congress after the completion of the final Apollo Moon landing mission. (And on Thursday the 25th, it is the birthday of both Lisa Stevens of Paizo fame, and your faithful correspondent RichT)

  1. As always, thank you for sharing. Will we by any chance get to see some art previews from The Hedge, while we wait for it to be finalized?

  2. Yeah I think I created the Reason to Celebrate. I certainly remember scouring Wikipedia for things that happened on the day.

  3. Live Journal. Monday Meeting notes were something to read. *Still are.

It Came From!…Frank the Goat. It’s been Aeons since Live Journal. It certainly isn’t Aberrant that they stand out. Great art, great books and notes from behind the scenes are a heck of a Trinity. Onyx Path is an Aegis in a shifting market. Keep pulling great things from the Aether. I mean It Came From…

Right about of info about how the sausage is made without too many secrets divulged. Keep doing what yall do.

*Did a fast food challenge. No one will eat McGrittles anymore. 3/20 remained and got angry stares. Monday Meetings..

  4. I read the Monday Meeting Notes blog every week! I love the insight into what you all are working on and the hints and previews of things to come. I also like and appreciate the change to only showing projects that have moved forward with the full status report monthly. Honestly, the only thing I usually skip is the “Reason to Celebrate” section.

  5. I read the Monday Meeting Notes, the Project Updates and the Comments. That’s about it. So I start at the top and scroll to the bottom. The stuff in the middle tends to repeat week after week.

    Reply
    • Yeah, I skim all the repeat stuff. But I’m sure there are those that will come to the blog for the first time and find them valuable. And the specifics of some of those repeats do change from week-to-week.

      Reply
      • Yep, they basically do have changes when there are changes. Like the various sales throughout the year are mentioned in our sales partners’ entries in the Blurbs section, whether I mention them in the blog section or not.

        Reply
    • Do you think you’d check out the other sections if they only showed what changed that week? Like, only new VTT things in that section? Or at the end of the day, you’re not likely to read about VTT or our Twitch stuff because it’s not what you’re into – the books for our games is the subject matter you’re looking for?

      • Personally, I was in an Exalted 2nd Edition game that ended a few years ago. With Exalted 3rd Edition coming out, there was talk of starting a new campaign, but the slow pace of release of the rulebooks for the various Exalts has pretty much killed that. And Exalted is the only Onyx Path product that I am interested in , even through I have purchased several others to check them out. So the VTT stuff is irrelevant and I’m not into Twitch/podcasts/etc.

  6. On another note, I already own TC: Core, TC: Aeon, and Scion: Origin in traditional print format (which I vastly prefer to PoD), so there’s no real incentive for me to back the Reprint crowdfunding unless I have a better idea of the extent and kinds of editing the books are going to get. I know Origin and TC: Core both have some issues that make them confusing to try to run or play and have required a lot of discussion on Discords or in person to try to work out. If I knew all of that was getting fixed, I might be interested in backing for a new, corrected edition of those books.

  7. Hey, on an unrelated note, do you have a way to purchase Deluxe Editions after IndieGoGo campaign closes like you do with Kickstarter? I was traveling when the Abyssal campaign came out and completely missed it!

    Reply
    • Every time we do a crowdfunding campaign on any crowdfunding venue we then create a BackerKit page for all the post-campaign bidness we need to do, and that includes a chance for folks who missed the campaign to jump in. It generally takes about a month after the campaign for James to get the BackerKit page going as he needs accurate info from the campaign to put the BK page together. As Ian notes here, there’s links each Wednesday, and Ian also includes the open BK page links in each Monthly Round-Up blog on the last day of the month, so you can go right to them via those links.

      Reply
    • That’s usually something that James sends out with the Backer Updates. He usually gives a good amount of warning, at least a week IIRC his system, so you should have time to tweak pledges.

      Reply
    • Cool! No worries, no stopping! Just interested in what folks like, don’t like, ignore, in order to fine-tune it. And if there’s a section I can drop, that’s less I have to do each Monday! 😉
