Things are go, go, going here at Onyx Path central! Lots of project discussions today, along with some tomfoolery, which makes for a fun meeting even when we’re getting things done.
So, let’s dive right into a heapin’ helpin’ of what we went over today in the Monday Lunch Meeting!
Big news for Exalted fans, and something we’ve been working on finalizing for a couple of weeks, is that the Exalted: Exigents crowd-funding campaign is going to be on IndieGoGo starting on Tuesday, May 24th, at 2pm Eastern US time!
You can go to the preview page right here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/exigents-out-of-the-ashes-for-exalted-3rd-edition/coming_soon/x/805340
If you listened to the Onyx Pathcast’s Exalted roundtables last month, Episode 204 is specifically about Exigents, with Dixie interviewing developers Robert Vance and Elliott Freeman. If you’d like to know about what’s in the book, there is a lot of fantastic info there as well as their experiences on bringing the book together. As always, you can check out the Onyx Pathcast on most podcast venues or right on PodBean!
We look forward to seeing everybody over on IndieGoGo next week!

Continuing with our May Scion celebration, that rascal Neall Raemonn Price will be talking all things Scion with Eddy on this week’s Onyx Pathcast. As I mentioned in this very blog last week (or the week before?), Neall was involved with Scion 2e from very near the start of our planning the project, and ultimately took over the project’s development.
So, what I’m saying, this should be a great interview!
One of things we’re discussing more is running around to various Conventions around the world. Eddy is attending Momocon in Atlanta at the end of the month, Matthew is taking an Onyx Path crew up to Tabletop Scotland in August, and we’re still looking at what sort of appearances we can make at cons later this year.
Plus, there are the virtual cons that are coming up soon, that we’re a lot more open to attending!
The biggest and coming very soon for us – in less than a month, in fact, is our own Onyx Path Virtual Convention! Lots and lots of talk and planning for that! The panel and actual plays are still listed below in the Conventions section, so sign up now if you haven’t already!
Because we want everybody to have the most fun, and that includes actually gaming, I’m again going to urge all you GMs out there to sign up to run games during the con. Remember, you get to charge for your game, and you’ll be keeping 50% of that amount – with the biggest chunk of the rest going to our designated charity!
Don’t worry if you feel like that’s a lot to jump into – you’ll have tech help, and once you start running the game, those “GM muscles” will kick in. That’s not just words – I recently ran my first game on Roll20 and I got the hang of it pretty quickly!
Just say “And what do you do?” and “Are you sure you want to do that?” a lot. Also, make them roll a lot of Perception or Awareness type checks – that always keeps the suspense ratcheted up!
You’ll do great, so sign up to run your game!
I was able to let our crew know that over the weekend I saw the third of our ads on the MST3K Gizmoplex event specials. The ads are a lot of fun, and it is really a kick to see our They Came From Beneath the Sea! book right there on the Satellite of Love in Jonah’s hands! They’re trying something pretty cool with the Gizmoplex, so if you’re already a fan, it’s worth trying out their new streaming site. And if you’re a They Came From fan, MST3K is a great place to pick up new Quips for your games. They have all the old shows plus they are rolling out the new season all this year!
Things got a little tense during our meeting today. I hesitate to say they got ugly, but… By the time you read this, the issue will be resolved one way or the other, but it appears that the two charity auction games during the SFWA con that are being run by Matthew and Eddy respectively have become a contest between our two team-members.
Eddy came in all bitter and hurt (he might have been weepy, but it’s hard to tell as it’s a voice-only meeting) that his game was slightly less highly bid on than Matthew’s. It’s Pugmire folks – dogs and cats and all in armor and casting spells. Who wouldn’t love that?
Well, apparently the people who want to play They Came From with Matthew. They were placing higher bids, and no doubt dropping amusing quips while they did so! When informed about this, Matthew seemed hard pressed to express sympathy or empathy with Eddy’s plight.
Hopefully, this can all be resolved and not turn into some sort of ongoing feud that lasts for years… of… hilarity – as it was all in good fun! The theatrics, while they lasted, were so unlike either of them that it made everything even funnier.
Like I mentioned at the start, the meeting was busy and fun. Which is a pretty good way to describe these:

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!
Today, we’re celebrating a bunch of disparate Wikipedia entries (YAY!):
1532 – Sir Thomas More (the Man For All Seasons) resigns as Lord Chancellor of England. (This did not end well for him)
1568 – Mary, Queen of Scots, flees to England. (This will not end well for her).
1842 – The first major wagon train heading for the Pacific Northwest sets out on the Oregon Trail from Elm Grove, Missouri, with 100 pioneers. (And anyone who played the Oregon Trail games knows how well that turned out).
1866 – The United States Congress establishes the nickel. (This turned out just fine, phew!)
1888 – Nikola Tesla delivers a lecture describing the equipment which will allow efficient generation and use of alternating currents to transmit electric power over long distances. (Didn’t work out, Nik. Sorry. But we’ll be talking a lot more about Mr. Tesla and his work in a month or so…)
1920 – In Rome, Pope Benedict XV canonizes Joan of Arc. (Loved her in Bill & Ted).
1929 – In Hollywood, the first Academy Awards ceremony takes place. (A long time before the Slap Heard Round the World).
1951 – The first regularly scheduled transatlantic flights begin between Idlewild Airport (now John F Kennedy International Airport) in New York City and Heathrow Airport in London, operated by El Al Israel Airlines. (There’s a whole sociological thing about a shrinking world and all that, but let’s not get into that whole thing now. Yay for the planes!)
2005 – Kuwait permits women’s suffrage in a 35–23 National Assembly vote. (I’m not digging into this any further as I’m hoping this lets us end on an up-note).
Hmm, kind of a meh day for celebrating. Let’s hear it for the nickel!
Wow, I didn’t expect that color for the Exigents cover! How will that differ from the Abyssals cover?
Super psyched to spend money on the book, though! Please put the Lunars map as something we can add to our order.
My guess is onyx/basalt black. Maybe they’d add a cool “bound in human skin” texture similar to Wraith 20
It’s grey, not black.
Does that get into Alchemicals territory?
We’ll let you know when we get there!
Haha! Fair enough! And I can’t wait!
Any general advice for participating in an IndieGoGo fundraiser? I’ve only done Kickstarters before.
It’s pretty much the same in that James will be updating and walking folks through the process. They do charge you right as you pledge, so be aware of that in terms of your finances. There’ll be previews but they are set up differently – again something James has a plan for. Then we roll right into BackerKit and everything is like our other KSs. Hope that helps!
So excited for Exigents! Did I mentioned it? I guess I did. Did I mention it enough? I don’t think so.
Why IndieGoGo if I may ask?
It just doesn’t feel as user friendly as ks on about every front, but that is only my personal experience with it.
Rich covered this over the last couple of Monday Meeting Notes.
Sorry been busy few weeks recvering from covid and I just didn’t remember ever reading those, even though I am certain I read through the notes, so again Sorry on my part. I reread them now. And to be clear it is on IGG because KS has a possible delay on their approvals?
So IGG it is then, unfortunately. Any hope for EU friendly shipping?
what is the splash page (that top most image) from?
Looking at the name of the file, it’s from Exigents.
Will the Exigents book cover the “new Exalt types”, like previously planned? The Hearteaters, Umbral and Dream-souled?
Yup, but they won’t have as elaborate write-ups as the four Exigents.
I may have missed it but is Onyx Path doing events for GenCon?
The last Kickstarter project I backed, the system crashed as soon as it launched and caused huge problems because of backer rewards that had limited slots. I haven’t backed a lot of Kickstarters recently, so I don’t know if technical problems are more common these days, but trying out IndieGoGo sounds like a good idea. It’s always good to have more options.
It’s a shame this year’s Onyx Path Con won’t have an early Friday Panel hosted by Meredith. Those were great fun the last two years.
I hope that Ron Thompson is up to doing the layout for Masks of the Mythos. That way lies… madness.
