Over Paths We Go! Laughing All the Way! [Monday Meeting Notes]

As we are all here at the top of a long slide into Xmas, and are still trying to tell Santa what we want (but before he boots us down the slide), here’s what our Monday Meeting crew are hoping for from the big guy himself!

From Matthew Dawkins:

My Christmas hope is pretty simple: for more people to discover the games we’ve made over the preceding and upcoming years, for gamers to embrace the They Came From line, and for my gaming groups to remain healthy, active, and always happy to try out new RPGs and board games. I’ve always been fortunate to have access to multiple groups of regular gamers and my wish is that they continue to support Onyx Path’s many excellent games.

And from Ian Watson:

I want people to be able to find a game that’s right for them, that they really enjoy — especially if it’s one of ours, and especially if it’s the Trinity Continuum — and I hope they’re able to find an enthusiastic group that can meet and play regularly.

A personal heartfelt wish from Lisa Thomas:

I would like good health for my mom in 2022.

Mirthful Mike Chaney chimes in his wishlist:

  • For smaller companies in the gaming industry to make a comeback in 2022. I’ve seen too many companies that I hold near and dear to me struggle or disappear since the world went to hell in March of 2020.
  • For the printing industry to possibly get back to some resemblance of normal… hell, I’d settle for 50% normal
  • To put a dent in my garage of shame… so many models, so many still in boxes wrapped in cellophane.

Eddy Webb sez:

What I’d love for Christmas is for the various publishing problems to just go away. The rising cost of paper, the shipping issues, the overloaded printers… it would be great if all these things settled down a bit so we could focus on making amazing games.

But, outside of that, a copy of the latest Yakuza game would be cool.

Dixie Cochran adds her thoughts:

I, like Eddy, would love for every publishing industry issue to go away, but I would also like to see new people pick up a lot of our games, especially the ones that we produce in house and love so much, like They Came from Beneath the Sea! and Pugmire. I hope to see some really cool APs in the coming year as well. So yeah, Santa, please bring us more people to play and love our games!

And as for me, I have these thoughts for Santa:

Get it together, man!
I’m asking for good health, safe lives, great friends, and fun gaming for everyone! Also, if you could get us a pick-up for the Scion TV pitch from Netflix or Amazon, that’d be great, y’know?

We’re having fun with this, but we do also recognize that this is a tough time of the year for a lot of folks – so please do the best you can and try and cut yourself some slack if you can’t dive in to all the festivities. If you can.

Here’s The Words From the Last Monday Meeting of the Year!

Yes, we finished up the TC: Anima kickstarter last week and topped over 1000 backers, which was what we were aiming for. It was closer than we liked, but the efforts of our backers paid off in the end and they succeeded in achieving the Stretch Goal for some companion book material at over 200% backing. A real nail-biter photo-finish!

I’m not going to list the next crowd-funding project we’ll put up right now, as there are several developing situations with Kickstarter that we’re still looking at. I will suggest that folks take the time to listen to last Friday’s Onyx Pathcast where Dixie and Eddy dig into some of our decision making when it comes to KSing projects and why we can’t crowd-fund every book we create.

The whole episode is excellent in giving some background to the decisions we make here, even beyond KSing, so please do give it a listen if you are perplexed or curious about how we do that voodoo that we do so well.

For the last couple of years we’ve been getting up to speed on offering official Virtual Table-Top materials, usually “non-denominational” items useful for any game, like our character tokens. But now, the first of our official sheets designed for, and available on, Foundry makes its debut this week!

As they say:
Direct Link: https://foundryvtt.com
“Foundry Virtual Tabletop is a self-hosted roleplaying
platform with support for hundreds of game systems with modern
features and a developer-friendly API. Foundry VTT is a one-time
purchase where your players connect for free using a web browser.”

We’re offering first the character sheet for Scion Origin and Hero, featuring:

  • A whole platform as a new place for Storyguides and Players
  • Fully integrated and up to date character sheet
  • Familiar to users of the paper sheet
  • Handles all needed rolls
  • Officially created and supported

More VTT offering and projects will be arriving next year!

Here are a few more items we touched on in the meeting today, like the second text release for Trinity Continuum: Assassin‘s Pre-Order having dropped last week to those who pre-ordered. We want folks to know how this is working and that pre-ordering does have its perks!

Another thing we’d like folks to know, or at least remember, is that even though WoD‘s Demon: The Fallen is having an anniversary, it’s still not our call to make any projects for it. Only Paradox can make that call, as only Paradox owns the game-line. And no, we actually can’t tell you if we pitched anything for it as we have contractual obligations there.

But knowing how hard we went at the 20th Anniversary Editions; what we did in regards to pitching Demon, or Hunter, or whatever of the old game lines, should be a pretty easy conclusion to draw.

Speaking of 20th Anniversary books, we saw on our Twitter that someone ordered a PoD edition of Werewolf: The Apocalypse 20th Anniversary, and when they opened the W20 cover, they found that the interior was actually the inside pages of a bible. So a freaky misprint, for sure!

Misprints do happen, especially since Lightning Source, the PoD printer used by DTRPG, has been affected just like any other printer by the pandemic and is working feverishly to get books out. So if something, maybe not quite as bizarre as this, but similar, happens to a book you’ve ordered, please do contact the fantastic Customer Service team at DTRPG and they’ll get you fixed right up!

I’m reminded that during the meeting we went over a few end of the year sales we have going, so I’ll share them with you! For non-PoD sales at DTRPG there’s the Teach Your Kids to Game Sale at DTRPG!:
https://www.drivethrurpg.com/rpg_teachkids.php?manufacturers_id=4261

And check out this discounted bundle of Legendlore projects- both the comics and our TTRPG! https://www.drivethrucomics.com/product/378523/Legendlore-Collection-BUNDLE

It’s a great chance to get the deep source background right from the comics – the very material we drew from to create our updated and inclusive fantasy game!

For physical books, we’ve added an End of the Year Sale at IPR, too:
https://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/Deals-and-Specials/

Interestingly, we have two They Came From! Jumpstarts going on sale on Wednesday AND there is an Actual Play They Came From! Double Feature playing through those same Jumpstarts happening on Tuesday featuring our own Dixie Cochran as a player:

Starting at 6pm EST on Tuesday, we are presenting a They Came From! Double Feature! First up, Director Travis Legge is running Party Beach Creature Feature – a thrilling tale of a troubled town under attack by fiends from Beneath the Sea!.

Then at 9pm, we turn our attention to the horrifying halls of Abbeyham Priory as a cast of harrowed heroes must face horrors from Beyond the Grave! with The Haunting of Abbeyham Priory directed by Joshua Doetsch!
Each suspenseful story boasts a cast of faces familiar to the Twitch channel and features one of the jumpstart adventures available for They Came From! at DriveThruRPG! Pop some popcorn and prepare for thrills, chills, comedy, and calamity with the They Came From! Double Feature!

Finally, this is it for this year, folks!

Hard to believe we’re at the end of 2021 already.

Next year is, as I’ve kind of mentioned briefly before, our 10th Anniversary as a company – starting on Jan 1st. Now most of us will be out until the 3rd when we have our first Monday Meeting of the New Year, so that’s when you’ll see some of the changes to this blog, as well as some 10th Anniversary shenanigans and sales!

(I will actually be posting a Monday Meeting Notes blog next week, just to note any progress on projects, but we aren’t meeting as most of our crew will be on vacation).

Talk to you all next year all about our:

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!

Looking out at this whole week leading up to Xmas holiday, there are all sorts of anniversaries for books we released, like W20 Changing Ways in 2017 or V20 Lore of the Clans in 2015, or fictional anniversaries like the Pax Hermetica: when the Order of Hermes was formally founded in 767, but the most important anniversary this week is the birthday of everyone’s favorite RPG creator, the nicest guy in gaming, Eddy Webb. We couldn’t have made it through the last ten years without Eddy, and not just for Pugmire! Eddy is the consummate collaborator, and has engendered true team spirit on our projects and processes. And he’s a very good friend! Happy BDay, Eddy!

  1. Will official Scion sheet for Foundry will have Antagonists section? It was dearly missed in unofficial one on Roll20 so I needed to programmed that myself, to run normal fights on it. Where we can look for Realms of Pugmire support on Foundry?

    • The single sheet I had a jpg for is not all there is to these. You’ll be able to find support for other games as we announce them. Thanks!

      • Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! Troy is correct, its up to Paradox to make something like that happen, as we just have the TTRPG license. One quibble though, it’s just Paradox at this point, there’s no WW over there anymore.

  2. Happy Holidays to everyone at OPP.

My Christmas wish is that all current projects are done by the end of 2022 and out to the gaming community. And it is done without any mental or emotional stress/cost to the staff.

  3. Hey Rich,

I know it’s a dicey (hah) question to ask, but Saints and Monsters – is that gonna be a single book release or Kickstarter?

And is there a soft ETA?

I know in 2021 I’ve manages to snatch some moments of “normality”, and I’m wishing 2022 sees that become a more consistent thing. I wish the same for all of you.
