Pages of Rages! [Monday Meeting Notes]

The Deluxe W20 Apocalyptic Record Kickstarter closes in on the mid-way point, and we’re about to release another section of the book’s text to backers! I think that happens tomorrow…

But it does definitely happen, as we continue our tradition of releasing the complete text to a Kickstarted book during the KS campaign. We want feedback and also to know that you – the reader and backer – know what is in the pages of the book you pledged for.

We really don’t want our backers raging, just our werewolves!

This week also brings us to the Online Save Against Fear Convention with our old friends at the Bodhana Group!

Long-time readers of these MMN blogs probably remember that Onyx Path has been a sponsor of SAVE since it started, and a huge supporter of The Bodhana Group‘s mission to use tabletop RPGs for therapeutic purposes. To me, this thing we all enjoy is both game and art, and like all art it can influence us deeply.

The team at Bodhana believe that the influence I speak of, from my lay-person’s perspective, can be part of the clinical tool-sets that therapists use to help assist people to deal with their psychological and emotional issues.

Which is a pretty amazing thing, really.

As part of our support, we’ll be appearing on several panels on the Bodhana Group’s Twitch channel, so here’s a run-down:

On Friday, the 8th, at 12:30pm Eastern US time, Eddy, Dixie, Matthew, and myself, will be talking about Turning Old Favorites into New Favorite TTRPGs.

Obviously, if you look at our resumes, we’ve done a lot of that very thing. From the multiple editions I’ve worked on during the old White Wolf days, to the 20th Anniversary Editions for WoD, the Chronicles of Darkness 2nd Editions, Exalted 3rd and Essence, and new editions of Scion, Trinity, etc… it’s one of the things Onyx Path has really mastered, and we’re going to share the thinking we used, and the experiences we’ve shared making that happen!

Then on Saturday, the 9th, at 10:30am Eastern US time, that same group of lovable lunkheads will be doing our signature convention panel: What’s Up With Onyx Path?.

This perennial favorite is always a lot of fun, as we talk about the various gamelines and projects – what’s in them and what it takes to make them. If there are announcements, we’ll make them. If there are special guests, we’ll chat them up!

Finally, on Saturday the 9th, at 6:30 pm Eastern US time, Dixie, Eddy, and myself, will be joined by Travis Legge and the grand-poobah of Bodhana himself, Jack Berkenstock, and we’ll be taking an in-depth look at the Crossroads Continent.

The CRC is my long-time game world that started with first edition D&D and is now being transformed into a 5e setting for all to enjoy. Several years ago, at the last physical SAVE convention, I DM’d for adults for the first time in 30 years, and Dixie, Jack, and Eddy, were in the group who played, so we’re going to have both the playing and the creating points of view represented.

It should really be a lot of fun, and hopefully a useful example of how to bring your own campaign worlds to publication. (Or at least what not to do!)

Now, ever the over-achiever, Eddy is actually on two more panels during SAVE:

  • Thursday, October 7, 7pm EST: Therapeutic Game Design
  • Sunday, October 10, 4:30pm EST: Games that Inspire Change

Like I said, these will be going out live on the Bodhana Group‘s Twitch channel, and then both Bodhana and we will have the vids available on our YouTube channels.

Then, Suddenly, the Monday Meeting!

At the beginning of each Monday Meeting, we start with “the Big Picture stuff”. Today, that took a long time as we went over some really fun possibilities that we’re setting up.

Unfortunately, every time I want to explain why we have a long part to the meeting and that means the rest is a bit shorter, I can’t actually explain why. Those sort of Big Picture discussions just are too tentative or involve other companies and so are secret. Like the whole time we were discussing the progress on the negotiations with Jenkins and Tate to do Scion the TV Series development.

So, uh, we talked about…something…and it took a longer time than normal.

Which means, I’ll briefly mention that our sales partners at IPR have a new sale, which is really the return of an old favorite sale: The Return of Halfoween Sale at IPR:

https://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/Deals-and-Specials/

Which seems like it could be some sort of supplement for It Came From Beyond the Grave!, but it’s just a really good sale.

Otherwise, I’m out of stuff this week, and I have to get this blog up and then turn right around and put up today’s Inktober drawing – this year I’m drawing a monster a day in ink for the whole month of October. You can find them every day on my Facebook and Twitter (@rich_thomas_op) accounts. But even when I’m drawing, I’m thinking of all of our:

On Sale This Week!

This Wednesday we have two releases from the Chronicles of Darkness! The Players Guide to the Contagion Chronicle and Dearly Bleak, fiction from Deviant: The Renegades – in PDF and PoD versions on DTRPG

The Contagion has come; it’s ravaged the world and left you in its wake. The few who are left band together, along lines you never once thought you would agree to. When your enemy becomes the only friend you have left, you make do the best you can.

The Player’s Guide to the Contagion Chronicle includes essays discussing how to combine multiple monster and supernatural types from the Chronicles of Darkness within a Contagion Chronicle game, including:

• An FAQ that covers common rules from all the Chronicles game lines and how they interact.

• A full explanation of how magic from Mage: The Awakening interacts with all other monster types.

• Essays on banding together as groups, and joining monster-specific groups such as covenants, Orders, and courts.

• An essay on sharing Merits, and new Merits to facilitate mixed character-type groups.

Once, there was a boy named Dearly Bleak. That’s not his birth name, but that’s not the point. Dearly became so deathly ill, his parents allowed a smiling self-help cult to turn their son’s body into a home for a cosmic maggot god.

Dearly was healed, and then everyone screamed. For a time, Dearly found himself all on his own, though never ever alone. One day, to his delight, he found fellow misfits and deviants like him.

This is the story of the boy and the Worm and what they are willing to do to the conspiracies that threaten their found family. This is the story of a boy who likes toys, lunchboxes, and catching bullfrogs. But most of all, he likes brains.

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!

It’s birthday eve (and let’s face it, probably the birthday itself as you fine people read these MMNs late into my Monday night and later into Tuesday) of the (in)famous Vampire: The Masquerade developer Justin Achilli! Happy birthday, JA!

  1. Now that Hundred Devils Night Parade is being prepped “to go on sale soon”, I have a question about it. Do you have some plans about the people who have bought some/all the single releases of HDNP that you made available on DriveThruRPG? Will they get some kind of discount or do you consider this complete book as something completely new?

    Reply
    • I’m very much curious about the same thing. At $2/per, all the HDNP monthly releases combined is comparable to a premium POD of Heirs.

      Reply
    • Yes, we have plans towards the awesome folks who bought the original run of PDFs, and once we have them cleared technically with DTRPG, then we’ll let folks know what they are. Thanks!

      Reply
  2. Any chance of getting the Deviant logos, as well as the 2nd edition Geist ones, added to the Rebubble store? As someone who frequently orders from there I’d love to see the latest CoD offerings included!

    Reply
    • Certainly a possibility! We create stuff for RedBubble when there’s a break in our schedule of working on regular releases, so one of those times could free up Mirthful Mike and crew enough that some new designs get added. Thanks!

      Reply
  3. The answer may well be “we can’t say right now”, but are there any more books planned for ÆON after Prometheus Unbound and Mission Statements?

Both those books are day one buys for me and, given the quality of the other books the team have put together for the line, I’d love to see more corners of the setting get explored.

    Reply
    • We’re going to let TC: Aeon simmer a bit and see what else the team submits for possible books. I think the TC: Aeon release schedule was one of our better ones in terms of the number of releases and the timing, so we need to review how that worked out. Shouldn’t be long, but it’s definitely a reason for saying “we can’t say right now”, rather than just saying it. And, as you’ve probably noted, there are TC: Aeon Tasty Bits still going in the meantime.

      Reply
    • In addition to what Rich says above, we’re also expanding the Trinity Continuum in ways it never has been before, with Anima, Assassins, Aether, and potentially more. While we (and I) certainly love Æon, we don’t want to stretch the Team Trinity too thin! So we’re going to look at how to juggle a reasonable number of releases among a wider array of game lines.
