RUNNING THROUGH THE GATES! [Monday Meeting Notes]

Running up that hill! Running through the Gates!

Or something like that.

The point is: we funded At The Gates on Backerkit Crowdfunding in less than a day, and here we are juuuust not quite a week out with over 777 backers! Four Stretch goals achieved!

Thanks to everyone who pledged so far – you’re getting us up a metaphorical hill by backing and letting other people know about the campaign! You are letting other people know, right? Please do, as the hardest part of that hill is getting the word out to folks who would be interested if only they knew about it. Even letting one other person in on this wild new game is a huge help!

And with that urging, let me step back so you can hear from At The Gates creator Danielle Lauzon about this last week:

We’re not even a full week in and we’ve funded, hit four stretch goals, and hit over 750 backers. To say that I’m overwhelmed by this response is an understatement. Every time I think the campaign has slowed down, another bunch of people seem to find it and join in. I’m so thrilled that we’re hitting these stretch goals, because I came up with so much fun stuff to unlock for y’all. I know a lot of you really like more content, and I’ve got so much additional content I want to add, from fleshing out the companion book to making an adventure book.

We’ve also got some additional add-on unlocks that I think people will really enjoy. If you’re a “get all the things” kind of person, I’m so stoked for you to see what we have coming up. I know some people have asked about At the Gates specific dice, and if we somehow manage to go through all the stretch goals I’ve come up with (which if we do, I’ll be floored, BTW), then I just might be able to convince Rich to let us do some sharp resin dice. But that’s a gate we’ll stand at when we get there.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has pledged to make this campaign successful. Every one of you are my heroes.

Danielle is out there doing all sorts of interviews explaining just what At The Gates is all about, and here she is in an interview on the Bonus Experience show hosted by Monica Speca (well known to Exalted and Exalted Essence fans): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3LhNcxxYF4

Plus, this coming Friday Danielle leads the Onyx Pathcast team of Eddy, Dixie, and Matthew through their first adventure in At The Gates, using the characters they made in last Friday’s episode!

What Is This Strange New World Inside This Gate?

Why, it’s a brand spankin’ new Onyx Path website!

In case you missed it – because I know y’all jump right into our merely magnificent Monday Meeting Notes blog each week – over the weekend we unveiled our new website! Now please bear in mind, that just like with our other projects, we’ve revealed it as we’re upgrading, so it is indeed a Work In Progress.

And it has been a Work In Progress going as far back as right after Ian was able to figure out what needed to doing on the software end of things late last year. (Although we have discussed a website redesign as an idea for years). Once that stuff was updated, the door was opened to a site redesign.

Or even “the GATE was opened”!

We definitely wanted our overall look freshened up – not hard to understand after over a decade of the same format! But even more importantly, there are just so many back-end improvements making the site far more secure and easier to update. So when we do want to swap out graphics, add and/or highlight a new gameline (or drop a gameline!), it’ll just be a matter of accessing that part behind the scenes and making a much simpler to accomplish change.

So, again, the site design is a Work in Progress. We’re tweaking it behind the scenes even as I speak. In fact, part of today’s Monday Meeting was reviewing and noting possible changes. G’head and check it out – you can even send us a note or two if you experience a problem. Same thing goes for this very blog, as that’s a new format I’m working through right now. Mistakes will be made! Thanks!

Just a note from our meeting to let everybody know that there’s a Bundle of Holding running right now featuring They Came From Beneath the Sea! books – the uproarious TTRPG set in a world comprised of 1950s – 60s monster invasion themes and tropes, specifically those that come from, uh, beneath the sea. Matthew noted today that one of his local gaming groups almost got kicked out of where they were playing because all their laughter freaked out the Magic players! Here’s a link:

Following up on new opportunities for Community Content creators, here’s Travis with the lowdown on a TC: Assassins project that provides a jumping off point for any other Community Content folks who want to use it to create and sell their own projects on the Storypath Nexus:

Last Wednesday we released our first free preview of Bloody Boroughs, a Storypath Nexus supplement for Trinity Continuum: Assassins set in New York City! This supplement supplies players and Storyguides an overview of the Big Apple within the world of Shadow, creating a jumping off point for stories taking place within the city. While this supplement is neither exhaustive nor the final authority on The City That Never Sleeps, it provides a launch pad for new ideas and stories while illustrating an example of how to bring any city into Shadow.

We’ll be releasing a second free preview on Wednesday, and an advance PDF the following week! Bloody Boroughs was written by Corbin Bogert, Joshua Heath, Melody Haren Anderson, Simon Kaye, Zachery Naldrett, and developed by Travis Legge. It expands Assassins by adding new minor societies and provides hooks and resources for Assassins games in New York City useful to Storyguides and creators on the Storypath Nexus. The book also uses an updated Community Content template for Assassins which will be released soon!

We’re still hard at work pulling together the many games and panels that will be offered for your enjoyment at this year’s OPP Virtual Con! Towards that, I’ve added a new sched showing the programming being offered on a Twitch channel besides our own, b’low in the Conventions section of The Blurbs!

Speaking of b’low, I’m b’lowing my nose a lot right now as the allergies seem to have kicked in. Yuck! So I’m gonna sign off for now, as I know you don’t come here to hear about that! You’re here to find out more about our:

  1. OK, gang. Went through and changed the fonts by hand. we’re still exploring this new set-up’s functions – including default fonts – so hopefully by next week we can knock this into looking as we intend.

Hope everything reads easier for you now!

  2. Trying not to step on any toes, or steal the thunder of announcements that may or may not be pending at OPVC, but I noticed when the con schedule was first posted, lo these many weeks ago, that one of OPP’s partner games was getting a panel, and I further noticed when the website design went live o’Monday that that game now had its own section, separate from the partner games.

    • On whom? Can’t really speak for the artists, who may or may not be fans of either, but you’re the first to reference them in my discussions about the art.

        • That aspect was part of the setting since Danielle and I first talked about it; I don’t recall her using either of them as examples. But there certainly have been plenty of JRPGs and media with those characteristics, so Did those influence something else that influenced Danielle, or did the same earlier influences influence Danielle and Faunus and RWBY? You should pop on at the Onyx Path Virtual Con in less than a month and ask her while she’s on a panel!
