Serious Sirius! [Monday Meeting Notes]

Because Sirius is also known as the Dog Star!

The “star” part refers to the Sidereal Exalted – whose Deluxe Edition Kickstarter has just passed $200,000 in funding and over 2,000 backers with tons of Stretch Goals passed and several new ones just posted by our Kickstarter Concierge, James!

And we have more than two days to go (we end on Thursday the 22nd)!

Here now, at this point, we do still need to get the word out to those who have not yet heard of this Kickstarter – so, please do bang the drum and toot the horn and help us to let folks know throughout Creation!

We thank you – your support puts the stars in our eyes!

The “dog” part refers to last Thursday’s big Realms of Pugmire announcement that we are starting the 2nd Edition, along with Eddy Webb’s Pugsteady, with a crowdfunding campaign being planned for later in January!

In fact, here’s Eddy now:

“It’s been wild to realize that I started working on Pugmire back in 2014. On the one hand, it feels like yesterday, but on the other hand I’ve been living inside Pugmire for close to a decade! So it makes sense to take all the ideas I’ve come up with over the years to tweak and adjust the game, polishing it into its best possible form and giving the game a slightly updated presentation.”

In fact, I remember when Eddy first pitched me Pugmire way back eight or nine years ago, and then our beta-testing in two separate Mid-Winter Cons. It was great seeing the tweaks and improvements that Eddy incorporated based on those playtests (as well as all sorts of other feedback), and how the game grew and was refined until we ran its wildly successful Kickstarter.

Eddy has applied the same thinking to this 2nd Edition of Pugmire, and has refined and tweaked the setting, the very way we’ll be rolling out the releases, and he has refined the system so greatly that… well, we’ll actually be revealing the system – still based on the 5th Edition of the biggest and most beloved TTRPG system in the world – with a separate series of posts!

So over eight years of game design, drawing from our first years and then incorporating all the feedback from all the games played since we launched AND all the feedback from the crowdfunding campaigns and gameplay for Monarchies of Mau, Pirates of Pugmire, Squeaks in the Deep, and every supplement that came out. Drawn from all that, we have Eddy and team’s new iteration of the game: Realms of Pugmire! (Since we only just announced this last Thursday, and we’re smacking right into holiday season, expect that we’ll be gearing up for A LOT more talking about Realms of Pugmire in January.)

There was another announcement last week, as Ian let our forumites know that he is planning on shutting down our Onyx Path website forums on Dec 23rd – this coming Friday – in order to move them to the latest iteration of our forum software. If it works, that means we can replace and repair those nagging issues that have we’ve been dealing with for quite some time.

Like, we’d like a working Exalted forum, y’know?

While all these announcements have been blaring out, we’ve also been reposting the very fun TikTok vids that folks have been making about our games. Several a day as our social media team gets their hands on them. These are super-short vids, so please check them out if you get a chance as they don’t require a lot of viewing time investment. We posted a bunch last week here on the MMN blog, but you can also see some posted daily on our various Onyx Path social media sites.

Having passed the middle of December, we are now looking at celebrating the very end of Onyx Path’s 10th Anniversary year with classic Trinity PDFs on sale at DTRPG for only 10% of their usual price tag! On the Onyx Pathcast, our Trinity guru, Ian Watson will be taking Dixie on a guided tour of all of the Trinity Continuum. Ian is our walking encyclopedia of Trinity lore going all the way back to the original Aeon plastic cover edition, and has been involved with every book in the Trinity Continuum resurrection of the line, so this should be a fascinating journey to listen in on!

It has been just so much fun celebrating with you all this year!

Finally, for the fun of it, here are what your Onyx Path friends would ask for if they actually got to tell Santa what they want:

Mirthful Mike Chaney: “The Darkest Dungeon Boardgame Deluxe Set. But failing that, I’d settle for the smooth roll out of 2023’s KS and regular releases.”

Eddy Webb: “What I want from Santa this year is a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign for Realms of Pugmire! It’s been over eight years since I worked on the first edition, and I’ve really enjoyed going back and updating things to make it the best game it can possibly be, and I hope others are just as excited about it!”

Dixie Cochran: “This year I just want good health and easier roads for our team, our loved ones, and everyone in the OPP community. (I also want an iPad, but I think my partner has that covered.)”

Matthew Dawkins: “This Christmas I want some nice food and drink! It’s a pretty simple ask in the great scheme of things, but for me the best thing about the season is the excellent food I get to eat, and my preferred gifts are almost always consumables over little items that quickly become clutter. And in a more altruistic sense, I’d very much love for the Russians to pack up and piss off out of Ukraine. I don’t think Father Christmas can do much about that, but maybe he can take out some drones with his sleigh.”

LisaT: “I would love a professional organizer. My office has not recovered from the move. There must be a good way to do this.”

Travis Legge: “I would like Santa to bring a peaceful and gentle holiday season for all.”

Ian Watson: “I want Santa to ensure a smooth uninterrupted forum conversion process for me this weekend. We’ve been building up to it for six months, and I really need this to work.”

Danielle Lauzon: “I want Santa to ensure I don’t lose power this winter while dealing with Texas weather. Also, if he could also give me smooth and easy development cycles in the new year, that would be fantastic as well.”

RichT: “I’d ask for all of our creators to see just how awesome and creative they are. To be able to cast off all their accumulated doubts and fears, and enjoy making games and writing and art for this most creative of industries. I’d ask that all of our community be given the chance to enjoy all of the amazing projects our creators put together, to enjoy having fun reading or playing or even just talking about our worlds, no matter where they are in the world, or who they are economically, culturally, or personally. Also, an original, working, Strange Change Machine.”

Thanks to everyone who has boosted, contributed, and commented all this year, and if you can’t check out the blog next week, well, then I’ll talk to you next year!

Pretty sure I love that joke so much I’ve made it every year for:

TEN YEARS, MANY WORLDS, ONE PATH!

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!

Happy Hanukkah! As I write this, we’re in the first day and the celebration will end with the evening of next Monday, the 26th. “Eight crazy nights”, as Adam Sandler used to say! Enjoy! And Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays for everyone who observes any or all of the other celebrations occurring throughout these next two weeks! Hope you all have great ones!

  1. All I want for Christmas is a reasonable space between Sidereals and Pugmire 2E, so my poor pocket book can take a bit of a break.

And good news, Mr Mike. Last I checked Mythic still has some of the deluxe editions up on their site! Absolute madness that has been that crowd fund campaign aside, it IS a really nice board game.

    • If about a month is reasonable space, then your Christmas wish has come true! If not…we will still hope to see you late in January for the Realms of Pugmire campaign!

      • Whether or not I’ll be there for the KS isn’t even a question. The question is will I be able to go all out during the campaign or have to back enough to make sure it gets through and then add on all the shinys in the pledge manager ?

  2. For those who don’t celebrate various winter holidays, my birthday is also this Saturday, and you can celebrate International Eddy Day. Traditional gifts are Transformers toys, Sherlock Holmes books, and squeaky dog toys.

    • Holiday babies have it rough once they realize the holiday’s not their birthday celebration. Some never recover, as in the sad case of Eddy Webb.

  3. Hi All, I was just wondering if the TC sale at DTRPG was still ongoing. No problem either way, but I am not seeing it. Have a great holiday season

  4. Enkidu! Of all the things I threw at the wall as a freelancer over 30 years, Enkidu has endured. This is the best Christmas Gift Ever.

    • So are we! Not to spill anything early, but the way we’re releasing Realms of Pugmire is set up so that we don’t lose any possibilities from 1st Edition, and so we can expand the fun parts. So we’re mixing some stuff in earlier – because we know what they’re about now – but also putting some info in other releases in order to really focus on them. I know I’m being vague, just hang on by your paws until more info is released in January!

  5. Hi, For Pugmire v1.0 or V2.0, do you plan to make vtt compendiums/ modules? At the moment I am trying to do a foundry one and… I don’t have the required skills for myself.
