Sneezy May Flowers? [Monday Meeting Notes]

Whew, yep it’s April Showers => May Flowers time – with all the nice weather and pretty colors! And all the pollen and allergies! Everything is (achoo!) beautiful.

No worries though, we’re still working and recovering from the dramatic end of the Exalted Essence: Players Guide crowdfunding campaign! In the end, we had a huge surge of backers, went into overtime, and did better than we expected considering the uncertain times we’re all in.

Thanks to everybody who lifted us past 500% of our goal, and whose support achieved THIRTEEN Stretch Goals! From our regular milestone markers to an expanded Companion book full of more options for your game and TWO novellas!

Now, we work on delivering those goals as well as the main book-

As for our next crowdfunding campaign, we’ll take a little pause before announcing that, as we’re re-configuring some of our thinking with our campaigns in these uncertain times. We’ve always done our crowdfunding to enable the creation of traditionally printed books, but there are a lot of other possibilities out there, so we’re thinking about those.

ALLERGY SEASON

Guess you can guess the theme of this week’s MMN blog! Yep, in our Monday Meeting today we were all comparing the nice weather from the mid-west past eastern US right across to the UK, but also our various allergies. So, lots of fun!

I kept my call muted through the meeting except for my part in order to block out my sneezes from the team.

More of a hiccup than a sneeze, but you might have noticed that we did not actually put Titans Rising up for sale last Weds as announced. We really don’t know what happened entirely, but there was a glitch in the file OK’d for the PoD printing that Mirthful Mike discovered during a last-minute check on PgXXs. A whole page was just blank; no text, no art or design elements, and the page wasn’t deleted – it was just totally white paper.

I’ve been doing game book layout since the first Clanbooks, and Mike almost as long, and neither of us have ever encountered that problem. So he pulled it back, fixed the file, and it’ll be OK for this Weds. We hope! 😉

Heads-up alert: the Spring Into Darkness Sale at IPR is ending at the end of this month – Wednesday is the last day of April – so if you’re interested in physical copies of our game projects, you can jump in right before it’s over here: https://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/Deals-and-Specials/

We’re almost a month away from this year’s Onyx Path Virtual Con and the time has come to lock in panelists and panels, game players and Storyguides. Travis is about to go all in on the tech needs and planning and getting people into those seats. Considering that that is all prep for getting you true believers the convention you deserve, as well as all the hints and actual announcements we’ll be making, it’s a huge task and we’re all contributing in one way or another to making it easier for Travis.

And remember, the panels are live, pretty much, so if you are on the Twitch stream you can ask questions for us to field live, so a full audio/visual AMA!

Speaking of Travis, here he is on the latest news about the Savage Worlds version of Scarred Lands:

I’m excited to announce that Gauntlet of Spiragos (SWADE) is now available in POD and PDF! This enhanced jumpstart contains six ready-made characters with new art by Rich Thomas, Setting Rules, Culture Packages, six playable Ancestries, and a complete adventure taking players through their first adventure using the Savage Worlds rules in the Scarred Lands!

The sequel, Dagger of Spiragos (SWADE), is due to release on Tuesday, May 6th in advance PDF! Dagger of Spiragos includes a new adventure to push forward the Spiragos saga, taking characters up to Heroic Rank! This book includes expanded information on the Fangsfall peninsula allowing you to explore this region of Scarn and expand your Scarred Lands games! Two new playable Ancestries are introduced including halflings and slitherin! Furthermore, there are over 60 Titanspawn and NPCs included in the book giving you a huge collection of adversaries to use in the Spiragos trilogy or to incorporate into your own campaigns!

Lastly, we’ve released our first four Scarred Lands Creature Profiles entries, and the next four are off for approvals! These releases each cover a new antagonist including plot hooks, their history, and their stat blocks. These are ready to drop into your campaign proving another tool for GMs running Scarred Lands in the Savage Worlds!

More to come!

As if he hasn’t enough to do, Travis also nurtures our social media presence and does a weekly report so we know how we are reaching our communities (I say that as a plural because we have pretty distinct audiences for a lot of our game worlds, which cross-references with pretty distinct uses of the various social media venues by our community). Our goal is to get our info out to the venue that is the favorite for the game line we’re talking about. So if you’re hooked into a couple of them, you might wonder why you need to see the same posts, vids, or what have you – it’s because our audience is so diverse in how y’all get your info.

I mean, everybody reads this blog each week and gets the basic facts, right? It’s all the rest of the things that we take care to put in front of you on FB, Discord, Insta, TikTok, YouTube, etc. that we work hard to get out there.

Oh, and BlueSky, where our numbers keep going up and we’d love you to join us there! Which naturally leads into Dixie’s delightful invitation to everyone:

For those who aren’t aware, Onyx Path is now on Bluesky (https://bsky.app/)! Bluesky is a microblogging app similar to the old days of Twitter. One of the features on Bluesky is Starter Packs, which allow you to follow multiple accounts at once, so we’ve made one for our freelancers you can follow here: https://bsky.app/starter-pack/theonyxpath.bsky.social/3laz43eiw3u22

We’re continuing to update it as freelancers let us know their Bluesky handles, so never miss a skeet (that’s what they’re called) from the Onyx Path team! You can also just follow us for company updates at @theonyxpath.bsky.social

Hope to see you all in bluer skies!

Y’know, once again linking from one thing to the next, I got a FB Memory notice that 15 years ago today I was waiting in an airport with most of the CCP North America crew on our way to CCP‘s company-wide retreat in Mexico. Besides us, there were crews coming in from China, the UK, and Iceland – but the Icelandic team got stuck in the airport up there because one of their volcanoes had erupted! Fortunately the retreat schedule contained enough buffer time so that they could get a different plane and arrive not too late (after literally drinking their airport dry of all alcoholic beverages, and more of the other drinks as well).

In the end, our team had a great time, and although whether or not those sorts of trips were helpful or hindered the WoD MMO project is probably not an answerable question, it certainly gave us all a chance to get to know each other outside of our work roles.

And I didn’t sneeze once down there, but started again when we landed in the US!

We’ve been doing this thing of ours for a long time, and we’ve faced a lot of challenges – from sneezing to Covid and post-Covid to the recent tariff uncertainty – all in order to create and share with you our:

DEVELOPMENT STATUS FROM EDDY!

Here are the projects that moved to the next stage of production:

REDLINES

Exalted – Infernals

  • These sneaky, shifty Exalted have tried to weasel their way out of deadlines, but for naught! They’re now captured in the capable hands of the developers.

TC Steam Wars – Steam Wars Leviathan Companion

  • These giant warriors have clanked and stomped their way into redlines!

FINAL DRAFT

Realms of Pugmire – Pugmire and Beyond (was Expansion of the Realms)

  • Pugmire and Beyond is now back in the patient paws of the writers, after I carefully redlined their hard work. All in all, I’m really excited by this material, and I can’t wait to see the final result!

EDITING

Curseborne – Tangled Webs

  • Let’s peer into some of the liminalities present in the world of Curseborne, from labyrinthine tunnels and chateaus locked in time to liminal people and places that want to eat you.

Curseborne – Curseborne Tasty Bit – Symbol of Murder

  • It grins as it eyes you up. It wants you to join it. It wants you to become a part of it. Just like every other one of its victims, and the murderer who made this foul creature.

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!

Happy Birthday to the late Sir Terence (Terry) David John Pratchett OBE, who was an English author, humorist, and satirist, best known for the Discworld series of 41 comic fantasy novels published between 1983 and 2015, and for co-writing the apocalyptic comedy novel Good Omens (1990). (41! Discworld books and I know a lot of you out there have read all of them!) And along similar lines, today is the 50th anniversary of the American premiere of Monty Python and the Holy Grail – the number one movie quoted by gamers sitting around their game tables!

    • Mirthful Mike sez that it’s the city the Exigents are in, Two Forks he thinks. Not a huge map, only a half-pager, but complicated.

  1. I think I speak for most when I say, take your time before the next crowd-funding event. We understand the world is crazy right now. Explore new avenues & ideas, work on getting some of the many other crowd-funded books finished. We’ll all be here when you’re ready.

    • Thanks! We are always working on getting past rewards out, even as we come up with new crowdfunders, but now we have the added complication of looking at non-traditional printing options in the face of [waves hand about] all that out there. Your support and understanding is hugely appreciated!
