Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Wood! [Monday Meeting Notes]

Dragon-Blooded illustration by Priscilla Kim

It’s not our oldies prog-rock band, oh no.

Tomorrow (or today if you read this on the day after we post it), Tuesday the 27th, the Kickstarter for Exalted 3rd‘s Dragon-Blooded deluxe edition starts at 12 noon Eastern US time!

Since I went to great (or not so great, depending on your point of view) detail last week on how we have reconfigured this Kickstarter set-up specifically to avoid making the missteps made with the first Exalted 3rd Kickstarter, I won’t go into that here. But here’s that link: https://theonyxpath.com/dragon-blood-from-a-stone-monday-meeting-notes/

Instead, I just want to point out how much we are looking forward to this KS, and how great the communication, cooperation, and energy has been with our Dragon-Blooded KS team. Eric Minton and Robert Vance, our EX3 dev team, have been totally on top of getting James Bell, our Kickstarter Pooh-bah, info and guidance to set up the Kickstarter, and so that Mirthful Mike Chaney can deliver the illustrations and graphics that will make the KS page something really exciting and clear to read through.

And as for me, well besides gut-checking and working with James to fine-tune the whole shebang, at 12 noon Tuesday I press the big red button that starts the KS. (It’s not really a big red button, but in my mind it is.)

Woot!

If our boosting of the Dragon-Blooded KS is the start of a Kickstarter life-cycle, at least in public, then my next piece of news represents the delightful end of a Kickstarter campaign. Or several.

Our friends at Indie Press Revolution are running a super sale on Deluxe V20 books from various Kickstarters. Those books that we have left after shipping to all the backers, because we print more than we need in order to have replacement books for those lost or damaged in shipping. Here’s a little ad:

And here’s the link: http://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/Deals-and-Specials/

We’re always thrilled when we can get these to good homes, so please check it out and adopt one of these blood-suckers!

If you missed our announcement about Trinity Continuum: Aberrant last Friday (N-Day), we’ve confirmed that we are working on it, and that Ian Watson, Eddy Webb, and (Sturdy?) Steve Kenson, are the development team.

We are absolutely thrilled to be able to announce Steve’s participation, as he is both a huge fan of Aberrant, and a literal one-man army in terms of superhero TTRPGs as designer of RPGs like Mutants & Masterminds, DC Adventures, and ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying, as well as writing on RPGs like Champions, DC Universe, Marvel Super Heroes, and Silver Age Sentinels.

Plus, I think I asked him to join the Trinity Continuum team something like four years ago (it might be more) and he has been incredibly patient while we got things pulled together.

Finally, “When three become one” is your clue to something cool we’re cooking up. A number of things, into a single thing. Hmm? What could that mean…

Many Worlds, One Path!

BLURBS!

KICKSTARTER:

Our next Kickstarter is EX3‘s Dragon-Blooded starting at 12noon EDT in the US, Tuesday March 27th!

As we try and find ways to enable our community to more easily play our games, the Onyx Dice Rolling App is now live! Our dev team has been doing updates since we launched based on the excellent use-case comments by our community, and this thing is both rolling and rocking!

The devs have added a whole bunch of new game lines’ dice and rolling bg’s and got caught by a bug Apple needed to fix, so be sure to update your app and soon that should be fixed.

There’s been tweaks to all elements of the UI, you can now preview every die type in the store, and you can use multiple die types per roll! Here are the links for the Apple and Android versions:

Coming NOW as both PDF and physical book PoD on DTRPG, we reveal The Secret of Vinsen’s Tomb, a Jumpstart adventure for Pugmire. www.drivethrurpg.com/product/232337/The-Secrets-of-Vinsens-Tomb–A-Pugmire-Jumpstart

A cat living in Pugmire disappears, but neither the police dogs nor the cats of the Cat Quarter know why. When zombies attack the heroes, however, all signs point to an invasion by the Monarchies of Mau. But how does this intrigue tie into the lost tomb of the first king of Pugmire?

The Secret of Vinsen’s Tomb is a Pugmire story for three to six characters. This jumpstart contains all the rules and characters you need to play — just grab some dice and go! You can also use this adventure with the full version of Pugmire.

The Secret of Vinsen’s Tomb contains:

• An evocative and mysterious setting that’s both family friendly and deep enough to create compelling stories.

• A summary of Pugmire’s traditional fantasy rules system. It’s designed for streamlined play, with an emphasis on cooperation and action over competition and violence.

• A complete adventure for a Guide to run for three to six players. Also useful for Guides running a full Pugmire game of first or second level characters!

• Six ready-to-play characters, so you can jump into the action.

Can your good dogs discover the secret of Vinsen’s Tomb?

Also available NOW, are two physical PoD spell card packs and PDFs for Pugmire: the Artisans‘ and the Shepherds‘ spells.

There are some things that even a Demon fears – Night Horrors: Enemy Action for Demon: The Descent arrives now as an Advance PDF on DTRPG.com! http://drivethrurpg.com/product/236133/Night-Horrors-Enemy-Action

Fighting the Machine is like fighting the ocean. You literally cannot hurt it. Doesn’t matter how much poison we dump into the ocean. We’ll only kill the things in it. We’ll never kill it. Same with the God-Machine. Kill angels, traitors, stigmatics, cultists, cryptids, whatever, you’ll never hurt the Machine Itself. No, that doesn’t mean we stop trying. You stop trying, you drown. Screw that.

—Mr. Bliss, Guardian Inquisitor

Night Horrors: Enemy Action includes:

• Dozens of Storyteller characters, including Unchained, angels, exiles, cryptids, and stigmatics, for use as antagonists, allies, or just inspiration

• Multiple plot hooks and story seeds for your Demon: The Descent chronicles

• A brief look at cults in Demon, including the Ten Thousand Names of God, a secret society fueled by the God-Machine

With a howl of RAGE, the W20 Changing Ways PDF and physical book PoD charges at you now on DTRPG.com! http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/229183/W20-Changing-Ways

Changing Ways is an in-depth look at what it means to be a werewolf, both on a personal level and as part of a pack. It digs deep into what it feels like to have bones re-knit after breaking, the range of senses available across all forms, and the sudden heady rush of the Gifts and Rites bestowed by spirits. It also provides a look at what life is like for lupus and metis werewolves, characters who have had experiences alien to any person. It shows the many ways that werewolves organize in packs, and how those packs are designed as groups of warriors, rather than aligned to the behavior of wolves.

Changing Ways contains:

• A detailed look at what it means to grow up as a lupus or metis werewolf, and how that colors a character’s perspective.

• More information on what it feels like to be a werewolf, a creature that changes in both body and mind.

• Frameworks and organizations for packs, along with new tactics and systems for forging the pack as part of play.

Question about the development process: can books in post-editing development stage get held up due to art not being ready?

I ask because I noticed that stuff like CtL2e and Kithbook Boggan has been stuck at post-editing development, but Art Direction lists those two’s art as “Contract”.

AKA it can’t move to Layout because art’s still not ready?

Or are there completely other reasons for why those two have been stuck where they’re at?

    1. richt Avatar
      richt

We certainly can and do start layout as the art is coming in, so no, there’s not an absolute connection between those two stages being where they are.

I remember (maybe from kickstarter) a “Book of Oblivion” for Wraith20. Is “Handbook for the Recently Deceased” its new title?

    1. tasti man LH Avatar
      tasti man LH

      Nope. They’re two separate titles.

      From the KS:

-The Book of Oblivion…The BoO will contain: Tempests and Maelstroms, Spectre Castes and Dark Arcanoi, the Labyrinth, more Shadow material, and Spectre Cults.

-The Handbook for the Recently Deceased, a 24-page guide for the newly dead.

Nope, they’re two different books. Handbook for the Recently Deceased is a 24-page guide to starting existence as one of the Restless Dead, while Book of Oblivion is a book covering the Tempest & Maelstroms, the Labyrinth, Spectres and Shadows.

What is the Contagion Chronicle? I hadn’t really paid attention to it before because I’m a bit out of touch on CofD at the moment.

    1. Victor J Kinzer Avatar
      Victor J Kinzer

OPP talked about it a fair bit at Gen Con. It used to be called the Crossover Chronicle on the projects page. It’s a Core Book/Dark Eras size ish book that creates a chronicle/a bunch of chronicle hooks that can be used for games that leverage multiple titles from the Chronicles of Darkness. So a big central plot that all the various supers from CofD have a vested interest in. Still not any kind of canon, just a big optional Chronicle framing

I’m sure the OPP crew can describe it more elegantly than I have, but that’s my very awkward understanding of the pitch.

    2. Jonathan Lang Avatar
      Jonathan Lang

Contagion Chronicle is the big “hope to do crossovers” book. In keeping with how Chronicles of Darkness does things, this is further supported by a Chronicle setup that’s designed specifically to highlight crossovers: that would be the Contagion.

      1. Matthew Dawkins Avatar

Both Mr Kinzer and Mr Lang are correct. Contagion is the big crossover book for Chronicles of Darkness.

Excited to See Deviant and Contagion moving forward! I think that just leaves Mummy 2E as the last CoD line not yet seen on the Monday lists. Will the Mummy 2E team be sharing some of their notes with the Contagion team for the future cross-over-ings of Mummies? (I know that was a horribly constructed sentence. Hunger afflicts me with lunch approaching). I like how the rest of the CoD lines have reached Development pending approvals, so that the Contagion team has had a full set of lore and mechanics to bind the lines together. and welcome Steve to Aberrant!
