Yes, we have zoomed to the stars! The Trinity Continuum: Aeon Kickstarter has funded and six days in we’re actually over 200% funded and we have over 1200 backers!
It is so thrilling to read the response from not only our old Trinity fans, thanks to every one of you for keeping the love alive, but amazingly, we’re seeing tons of backers who are new to Trinity jumping into the KS! Which makes me really glad that Jammin’ James Bell, our Kickstarter Manager, has included a large selection of Trinity first edition PDFs so that new folks can get a taste of all the 1e magic. And that PDF set is growing bigger with Stretch Goal rewards that add more Trinity 1e PDFs.
Yes, a third of our Stretch Goals are for the PDF lovers and newcomers to Trinity. This does not in any way take away from the remaining two thirds of our SGs that add more stuff to our backers’ rewards. You see, Jammin’ James has arranged the SGs so that the added PDFs are at goal amounts that are designed to pop up as a fun thing folks can get between the SG amounts that we have to carefully set.
In other words, if we dropped the added PDF goals, the remaining two thirds of the SGs would not change their funding amounts one bit. It would just seem to take longer to reach them because there wouldn’t be one of the PDF SGs to hit. We do this because we have data that shows that folks tune out of Kickstarters that have long waits between the Stretch Goals. At the end of the day we want folks enjoying this KS and feeling excited that it is going along well, and shorter SGs make that happen better than longer ones.
Remember, like I’ve said a lot over the years here and on KS updates, most of our Stretch Goal amounts aren’t extra money to be thrown at a new section in the AEon AExpansion. Most of the, say, five thousand dollars we need to achieve that goal is from pledges by people who are pledging for physical books. Which is as it should be since getting those traditionally printed physical books printed and in stores is the stated goal of the KS.
But, that means that all those pledge amounts have to subtract out the KS fee and the cost of creating and shipping those physical books. So we are choosing to take the rest, which is a small percentage, and plow that money back into a new cool creation like the new section for the AEon AExpansion. There’s not a lot of “free money” floating around, and, in fact, our data also shows that very few folks will up their pledges just to get to a new Stretch Goal.
Once in a while, particularly for like that last Stretch Goal right at the end of a KS campaign that everybody is afraid won’t be funded, then we see backers adding in a bit without needing an Add-on or whatever as a thing they are justifying adding to their pledge for.
So what I’m saying is, Stretch Goals are for fun and to keep folks engaged with the Kickstarter. They cost us, but we arrange them so that their costs are covered even if that makes for larger goal targets. We do it because we want folks feeling special and enjoying their time spent with our KSs.
This is one of those bits of info I even hesitate to share here in the Monday Meeting Notes blog, but even though it is sad, I think it is important that you folks are aware of these sorts of things.
Last week, long, long time illustrator for White Wolf and Onyx Path, William O’Connor, passed away suddenly at 47.
I started hiring Bill, or WoC as we called him internally, to do illustrations for the Ars Magica line as things were getting big with Vampire 1st Edition. His professionalism and good nature made it easy to hire him again and again, and his willingness to try new subject matter meant that as WW added new game lines, he could be relied on to create unique and gorgeous illustrations to match those games.
For VtM, we got into a visual motif of “put the vampire on a high thing” which you can see here with some examples:
We also added that whole motif into other game lines:
When we needed card art, Bill was there, when I wanted to do a tryptic to open each Book of V20, Bill was there. I even talked him into doing behind the scenes blogs for that tryptic, and while he was terrified as to what the fans would say, he was game and the whole exchange between him and the community was fantastic for WW and V20, and I think a lot was learned on both sides.
Most of all, and you can see this in the many testimonials to him online, Bill was a friendly talented guy who loved to share what he knew. He was always learning and then teaching what he learned, as a voice in the TTRPG artistic community, as an art teacher, and as a father to his two little girls. He was an artist who was also someone I called friend, and he will be missed.
Last, but in no way the least, I want to let you all know that Rollickin’ Rose Bailey has decided to leave Onyx Path to pursue some pretty great opportunities. I’m sad to lose her as a full-time part of our Onyx Path crew, as she has done so much to help build Onyx these last years all the while keeping an eagle-eye on the quality of our projects, but am happy that she is heading to new amazing adventures.
The sheer depth of her effect on our projects is staggering; everything from her original concepts for Demon, how she pushed forward the overall tone and quality of the 2nd Editions for Chronicles of Darkness, and her absolutely integral work supporting our other devs. I don’t think we would have been able to ramp up our EX3 schedule with our new devs without her providing attention and guidance.
We will definitely miss our Rose. (Even though we’ll all be working on Cavaliers of Mars with her still, and I have a small inkling that her writing will still appear in various Onyx Path books.)
If you want to keep up on her latest projects and throw a little support her way, here is Rose’s Patreon link: https://www.patreon.com/fantasyheartbreaker
But, fear not True Believers!
Dynamic Dixie Cochran has joined us as a full-time freelancer and will be working with our developers for the Chronicles of Darkness and Exalted 3rd game lines, as well as hiring and communicating with our editors. As an editor herself, she has more than a few ideas as to the care of these unsung heroes of publishing.
If you’ve visited our booth at just about any of the conventions we’ve gone to this past year, you’ve probably met the powerhouse that is Dixie. In fact, she probably convinced you to buy a book or three, as well.
One of the developers Dynamic Dixie will be working with is Meghan Fitzgerald, who is going to bring the Changeling: The Lost 2nd main book to fruition. We had already intended that Meghan would then develop the CtL2 line after helping out on the main book with Rose, so we’re just swapping around the focus on who does what. Both Dixie and Rose herself will be backing up Meghan as she finishes up the big book and rolls into the Stretch Goals.
Lots happening here at Onyx Path, and we’re always looking at the best and better ways of creating:
Many Worlds, One Path!
BLURBS!
KICKSTARTER:
The Trinity Continuum Kickstarter went live January 30 and with almost a week in, we have pledges at 200% of our funding goal, over 1200 backers, and we’ve gone through six Stretch Goals including VARGs and Aberrants and their cults that will be added to the AEon AExpansion, and a scenario called “Caper, Incorporated” has been added to the In Media Res scenario collection PDF for the Trinity Continuum Core.
Trinity Continuum: Aeon, is our reboot of the classic Trinity (Aeon) game, and Trinity Continuum: Core is the core book that all of our Trinity Continuum game lines will spin off from. Both books will be a part of this Kickstarter and backers have already received the first two quarters of the Trinity Continuum: Core text, with more to come. James Bell, our Kickstarter Manager, has been keeping this KS hopping, so we hope you’ll check it out!
Our next Kickstarter is slated to be EX3‘s Dragon-Blooded.
As we try and find ways to enable our community to more easily play our games, the Onyx Dice Rolling App is now live! Our dev team has been doing updates since we launched based on the excellent use-case comments by our community, and this thing is both rolling and rocking!
Today the devs are adding a whole bunch of new game lines’ dice and rolling bg’s, so be sure to update your app!
There’s been tweaks to all elements of the UI, you can now preview every die type in the store, and you can use multiple die types per roll! Here are the links for the Apple and Android versions:

DRIVETHRURPG.COM:
Coming this Wednesday as an Advance PDF on DTRPG, we reveal The Secret of Vinsen’s Tomb, a Jumpstart adventure for Pugmire. (And yes, there will be a physical book PoD version coming soon).
A cat living in Pugmire disappears, but neither the police dogs nor the cats of the Cat Quarter know why. When zombies attack the heroes, however, all signs point to an invasion by the Monarchies of Mau. But how does this intrigue tie into the lost tomb of the first king of Pugmire?
The Secret of Vinsen’s Tomb is a Pugmire story for three to six characters. This jumpstart contains all the rules and characters you need to play — just grab some dice and go! You can also use this adventure with the full version of Pugmire.
The Secret of Vinsen’s Tomb contains:
• An evocative and mysterious setting that’s both family friendly and deep enough to create compelling stories.
• A summary of Pugmire’s traditional fantasy rules system. It’s designed for streamlined play, with an emphasis on cooperation and action over competition and violence.
• A complete adventure for a Guide to run for three to six players. Also useful for Guides running a full Pugmire game of first or second level characters!
• Six ready-to-play characters, so you can jump into the action.
Can your good dogs discover the secret of Vinsen’s Tomb?
Also releasing this Wednesday on DTRPG is the physical book PoD version of the Pugmire Core Rulebook itself!
Is a life of running and hiding a life worth living? We say yes. There’s always something between the running and the hiding, and those moments of grace make it all worthwhile.
The Huntsmen Chronicle Anthology is a perfect companion piece to Changeling: The Lost, 2nd Edition. These stories spin tales of the Lost, of those abducted and enslaved by fairies. Those who escaped, but whose captors will stop at nothing to find them. These fairies summon forth the Huntsmen, primordial hunters who understand nothing but pursuit and capture. The Huntsmen are unstoppable monsters, and the Lost can only look to each other for respite, rare comfort, and rarer trust.
The Hedge has parted and you can get the PDF/electronic versions and the physical book PoD version of The Huntsmen Chronicle Fiction Anthology for Changeling: The Lost 2nd Edition at DTRPG.com! http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/210042/The-Huntsmen-Chronicle-Anthology

At last, one of the most legendary of Kindred will share his personal journal with you! V20 Beckett’s Jyhad Diary goes on sale in PDF and PoD versions on DTRPG.com! http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/225322/V20-Becketts-Jyhad-Diary
It’s ever been a loaded word among vampires. Jyhad is in force everywhere from lofty, perfumed Elysium to cloying, smoke-filled blood feasts. Jyhad’s the eternal game played by elders, Methuselahs, and worse — it’s the agenda of beings so utterly beyond humanity, one such as yourself could scarcely understand its movements.
Luckily for you, you’ve picked up a copy of my diary. With my help you may just take a step on the first rung of understanding. Information worth having is information you must earn through blood, and oh, how I’ve bled for what’s contained within these pages.
— Beckett
Beckett’s Jyhad Diary serves as the definitive book of setting and plot for Vampire: The Masquerade, containing 30 chapters spanning different geographical regions, encountering vampires of every clan, profiling obscure and profound segments of the mythology, and providing countless story hooks on every page.
Masterfully written by the likes of Neall Raemonn Price, Joshua Alan Doetsch, Myranda Sarro, Steffie de Vaan, Malcolm Sheppard, Alan Alexander, Renee Knipe, and Matthew Dawkins, Beckett’s Jyhad Diary is as fascinating to read as to use for your game Chronicles.
With a howl of RAGE, the W20 Changing Ways Advance PDF charges at you this Wednesday on DTRPG.com!
Changing Ways is an in-depth look at what it means to be a werewolf, both on a personal level and as part of a pack. It digs deep into what it feels like to have bones re-knit after breaking, the range of senses available across all forms, and the sudden heady rush of the Gifts and Rites bestowed by spirits. It also provides a look at what life is like for lupus and metis werewolves, characters who have had experiences alien to any person. It shows the many ways that werewolves organize in packs, and how those packs are designed as groups of warriors, rather than aligned to the behavior of wolves.
Changing Ways contains:
• A detailed look at what it means to grow up as a lupus or metis werewolf, and how that colors a character’s perspective.
• More information on what it feels like to be a werewolf, a creature that changes in both body and mind.
• Frameworks and organizations for packs, along with new tactics and systems for forging the pack as part of play.
Legacy of Lies, the V20 Dark Ages Jumpstart, goes undead in PDF and physical book PoD versions on DTRPG:

Discover the mystical power of the five magical materials and the secrets of creating your own Evocations. Wield weapons of fabled might and don the armor of mythic heroes, making their puissance your own. Claim Creation’s wonders: the miraculous tools of the Chosen, living automatons, flying machines, hearthstones, and more. And unleash the mighty warstriders, titanic god-engines of conquest and devastation, to once more shake Creation with their footfalls.
A Land Where Legends Walk
Drawing enthusiastically on Greek mythology, the revised and re-imagined Scarred Lands nonetheless retains its place as a modern fantasy RPG setting. This is a world shaped by gods and monsters, and only the greatest of heroes can expect to be counted among them. The most populous continent of Scarn, Ghelspad, plays host to vast unexplored regions, hides unsolved riddles from ancient cultures, and taunts adventures with the promise of undiscovered riches hidden among the ruins of older civilizations.
Yet the myths of the Scarred Lands are relatively recent events. The effects of the Titanswar still ripple through the world, and the heroines and villains of many of these stories are part of living memory, if not still living.
The Award-Winning Fantasy Setting Returns
Scarred Lands has been a favorite fantasy setting since the release of the Creature Collection for the d20 System in 2000. In subsequent years, over 40 titles were published for Scarred Lands, making it one of the most fully supported fantasy RPG settings ever and the premiere product line of Sword & Sorcery Studios.
Available in both 5th Edition and Pathfinder compatible versions! PDF and PoD formats available NOW!

TODAY’S REASON TO CELEBRATE: The Eagles win the Superbowl! The Eagles win the Superbowl! The Eagles win the Superbowl!
Just curious have you guys thought to make a show or movie again for any of your series like Kindred The Embraced given current technology
Even back in the day, we at WW didn’t make Kindred the Embraced, that was a license with the Spelling folks. So, would we like to license any of our settings for TV or movies? Absolutely! Do we have the connections in those industries? Nope. We’d love to have those, but we’re a pretty small fish in a huuuuge entertainment pool. Maybe the current WW can get something happening, though.
So, no current connection to Spelling’s new home in CBS?
Strangely enough, he hasn’t called.
I obviously mean Spelling as in Spelling Television, the same “Spelling folks” you were talking about. It was absorbed into CBS. You didn’t keep in touch after that.
It doesn’t matter, it was a joke. Kindred was a one-time thing, not repeated. There were no clamoring studio reps begging to make shows out of the other WW properties (unfortunately).
Judging by what you said about having no connections, you don’t still socialize with anyone who worked in Spelling Television at that time. But there might be people who, if the new WW were to try to “get something happening”, would remember working with you back then and think it was worth a shot?
Maybe, sure. All kinds of weird things _can_ happen, and I’m pretty sure almost any sort of reason to be interested is a good one from WW’s point of view.
Well, the new WW have repeatedly made the joke (suspected half-joke) that they would like to have a vampire netflix show by 2020. So, that’s on their mind, at the very least.
I for one, really, really, wish they take the time to do it justice if they do it. I don’t want a show just to have a show. I want a window into the worlds I love. There have repeatedly been adaptation of properties that led to less than stellar results which had little to do with the source material (Dresden Files, Dungeons & Dragons, etc.).
Thankfully in recent years, we’ve seen shows do adaptations with a more faithful approach which have accordingly risen to critical and fan acclaim as a result. (Handmaiden’s Tale, Game of Thrones, American Gods, etc.) But it is a very costly and difficult thing to do. I can only imagine the insane amount of extra work it is to plan and manage a fully faithful adaptation.
Still, that’s what I want out of this hypothetical show. I want to see Mascarade. I want to see Apocalypse.
Same here. I don’t want a clone of True Blood or Teen Wolf, with werewolves that have nothing to do with Gaia.
Ups and downs, it sounds like. I’m glad the Kickstarter is going well and I’m sure Rose is getting a good opportunity but it’s sad to see her go and obviously the passing of William O’Connor is a tragedy.
Absolutely – great stuff with Trinity, sad stuff with Bill’s passing, bittersweet news about Rose.
I’m glad Rose is following good opportunities, but I’m sad to see her leave after the impact she had! It’s a big loss for OPP for her to leave as a full time dedicated member, her writing and direction are very good. I hope her endeavors are successful, though!
I haven’t experienced much of O’Connor’s art, but it’s plain to see how striking it was, and it’s sad he’s gone and we won’t be able to delight at future works.
It’s one of those “door closes, window opens” sort of things. Rose chose her timing carefully and after much thought and care for how it would leave us, so we’re in a pretty good place to move forward still, even though we’ll miss her terribly.
So as a bit of a weird question. I submitted a message after Gencon to Eddie Webb after GenCon about interest in editing, and it kind of got lost in the fray and sent up to Rose back in December. Should I at this point simply email again on my interest in that again with her heading elsewhere, or will it be moved along to whomever it needs to in the future?
Thanks!
Editing inquiries will be handled by Dixie ultimately. It probably wouldn’t hurt to resubmit your interest to Eddy and let him put it in her hands.
Sounds good. Just wanted to be sure.
Indeed — I’ll pass any interested editors on to Dixie. 🙂
Rose has developed some of my absolute favorite Onyx Path books, and I’ll be interested to see what she does next.
By the way, any chance we can get a sense of how much longer you think Signs of Sorcery has before it moves out of development?
Agreed! Estimates of any kind on project movement aren’t something I do here, sorry.
Understandable. 🙂
Damn. Very crushing news. I am curious to see were Rose will turn up next though. Good luck to you!
Does KS art coming in for Dragon-Blooded mean that’s up next on Kickstarter? That would be very exciting!
At the bottom of the Kickstarter Blurb section above: “Our next Kickstarter is slated to be EX3‘s Dragon-Blooded.”
So yes, probably. 🙂
That’s what I get when I only read the picture as I go past the blurbs!
Couple of questions. Is the Wraith 20th going to be available for the public quicker than the other 20th editions? I didn’t get to back but, I’ve been following it’s progress and I understand that it will be available to the the backers some time soon. Also, after reading Beckett’s diary, there seems to be some info/revision of the Kindred of the Ebony Kingdom and Kindred of the….Obsidian Mirror (?). Are we going to see source books for African and South American Kindred?
The process of PDF delivery to backers, errata gathering and inputting, creation of the index, making the PoD and getting that live along with the final PDF on DTRPG, and then getting the Deluxe created by our printer and shipping those out still has plenty of points where time needs to be taken to do it right.
If Onyx Path creates anything for those, it’s timing out that they would be V5 versions, I think.
One thing I really liked about the original Aeon/Trinity was that, since a lot of it was presented in-character, a lot of illustrations got credited to artists in-universe.
William O’Connor’s art was credited to “Akira Van Woc” (the WoC was the giveaway).
I’ll miss him.
Ian, if you want to mention that on the KS comments, I don’t think it would be too distracting.
Thanks, Rich. I was thinking about it, but didn’t want to derail the fun train too much.
Oh, incidentally, I found the V20 blog posts mentioned above. Comments are unfortunately lost, since blog was originally hosted elsewhere.
– Richt Remarks with William O’Connor
– Rich’s Revised Remarks with William O’Connor
– Richt Returns More Remarks to William O’Connor
A sad, but fond, “Adieu!” to Rose! It’s great she gets to pursue what she wants.
Shit. I didn’t know William from his work with WW, but the Dracopedias were some of my favourite art books and really helped me up my game. He will be missed!
Per the Submissions Guidelines I’ve emailed Rose a couple of times. To whom should those emails be directed now?
All the best on her new path and congrats to OPP on another successfully funded KS! 🙂 Can’t wait to see the new Trinity line take off! 😀
Emails shouldn’t be going to Rose, but to the Onyx Path Submissions email listed on the guidelines. I’ve been checking that once a week. 🙂
Per the Submission Guidelines:
“7. If you are a previous WW freelancer, you don’t need to submit. Just make an inquiry with Rose Bailey and see if there’s work for you. In some rare circumstances we might ask for a recent writing sample, but generally if you’re already in a WW/OPP book, you do not need to submit.”
But no prob. 🙂
Richt, I really do not mean to intrude/insist, but, I assume this means the email I sent you a few weeks back was redistributed to Rose and will now be evaluated by Dixie?
Or, knowing now the proper person for that, should I rewrite it to Dixie’s attention? I mean, the original was a rather informal thing after all. Actually, did you receive it at all?
I understand this is horrible timing on my part, with Rose leaving and the big KS, and I apologize for that (I’m canadian, I apologize. We do that). I just want to do this right.
If it is the idea you sent me, I do those sorts of evaluations, so the various things we having going and getting Dixie up and running are indeed things that need doing before those sorts of evaluations, but only because they re-prioritize my time. No worries.
The idea I sent, yes. With what’s happening, it really couldn’t be any other way, I understand. It’ll be when it’ll be.
Thanks for letting me know, though. I really appreciate it.
I hope you’re not going to make any 1E or 2E bundles for the Dragon-Blooded KS. It works for new corebooks, but that’s not the kind of stretch goals we’re interested in when it comes to Dragon-Blooded.
As per the blog post you are commenting on, we create Stretch Goals for reasons and with the expectation that not every goal is for every backer.
I was wondering about Changeling: The Dreaming. How does the powers of other supernaturals affect Banality?
You might want to take that question to the forums were more people can offer you potential answers to that.
Any thoughts or plans on purchasing the rights to Exalted and moving it to the Storypath system?
Unless WW completely stuns me by offering it up for purchase, no. We like to stay focused on the stuff we can and need to do. 🙂
Well, let’s hope for a stunner! Any idea what WW is doing with the IP other than making licensing royalties off it? I’ve heard exactly nothing beyond what OPP is responsible for.
I don’t know about you but I hope they are trying to get Nickelodeon’s konietzco on board for an exalted anime because that would be just INSANE.
(Avatar: the last airbender’s creator is who I am talking about)
Yes, that would be awesome!
I do, but if I say anything then Shane DeFreest materializes out of a shadow nearby and kills me. 😉
I can say that the WW gang have lots of licenses they are working on. How many of those make it through all the stages to show up for all of us is always a crapshoot.
Fair enough, no one wants to be murdered by a shadow jumping assassin. Well, lets hope to see cool things in the future. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.
Best wishes to Rose in her new endeavors! My thoughts and prayers go out to Bill’s family and friends.
Might I ask what the next few planned kickstarters are? The Trinity kickstarter is going fantastically so I’ve got the Onyx Path Kickstarter bug 🙂
Dragon Blooded is next. Beyond that we have plans, but don’t like to announce anything too soon. Thanks!
Thank you!
