And Goes Out Like a WHAT? [Monday Meeting Notes]

The old saying that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb (or vice versa) was once a skit on like first-year SNL with John Belushi talking about how March comes in and goes out in different countries around the world. In Norway, March comes in like a polar bear and goes out like a walrus. In Honduras it comes in like a lamb but goes out as a salt-marsh harvest mouse…and so on as he’s gradually getting more and more wild with both his claims and delivery until flipping over backwards out of his chair!

Other than always sticking in my head when the March “Comes in like…” phrase is mentioned, it just seems appropriate as it’s possible that most of us have already flipped backwards out of our chair with everything going on this March – so it’s good we’re getting to a brand new month, with new projects and releases!

And fortunately, April 1st is Wednesday, so we don’t need to do that sorta jokey stuff in today’s blog – or at all, this year. We realized that with everything else we were working on, it’s hard taking the time to create a joke project. Plus, when we just did some of the stunts other websites do, we actually upset a bunch of our fans.

Can’t have that, so the pranks on April 1 have gone the way of the dodo.

(Which is actually now an “extinct for now” phrase, as I’ve read that there are scientists convinced that they can bring back that bird. So maybe we’ll do 4/1 pranks again someday…)

But for now, real releases on Weds, and real projects being worked on, and real online activities coming up. Some of which we discussed in the Monday Meeting today!

Let’s start with the Onyx Path Virtual Gaming Convention 2026 that’s coming June 5-7th! For those of you who are interested in running or playing our games during the convention, we are partnering with Startplaying.Games to provide a place for folks to set up listings for their games! You can charge for games or set your listings up for free, and if you need an online place to host your game, we have several dedicated voice and text channels on the Onyx Path Discord for people to play! Sign up at https://startplaying.games/event/onyx-path-virtual-game-convention-2026

So if you want to be a GM, now’s the time to get your game(s) listed!

Our Onyx Pathcast team has been looking at the options for doing more shows after their year-long break, and have decided to consolidate our broadcasts, like a lot of podcasters are doing, and have them featured as part of our YouTube offerings! They’ll still be audio-only, although there’s a chance that we figure out something visually cool and special on occasion to take advantage of YouTube, and the old episodes are being migrated over there. Which means we’ll be closing the PodBean archive. So if you personally want to grab any episodes, you have until next Monday.

We talked a bit about the status of the Pandora’s Box project for Scion, as Ron Thompson spent a lot of last week inputting Knacks, Boons, etc. that we missed on the first Advance PDF. Thanks to everyone who sent us info on the missing stuff! What we’ll be doing is updating the current Advance PDF on DTRPG, so if you already bought it you’ll need to re-download it in your DTRPG Library at no additional cost to you. We’re including a link to the errata form and leaving it up for a week in case we missed any other stragglers, so do feel free to use that form.

Now, it’s a fair bit larger than the last one, so those who bought it earlier are probably getting a bit of a deal as we’ll probably need to raise the price for the Final PDF to compensate for the added material. Note the “probably” usage there; we really won’t figure out the final pricing until we get back any feedback and move to creating the PoD files. Our apologies for missing the material we did, and again, our thanks to all of you who sent us fixes!

April showers are supposed to bring May flowers, but in the world of Curseborne, the clouds may be hiding something far worse. Look to the sky this Friday…

I have this note from Travis:

The Storypath Nexus Game Jam is well underway! Awkward GM Corbin will be coming to the Onyx Path Twitch this Wednesday at 8 PM EDT to answer questions and help inform folks about the game jam! The game jam rules are posted here Pop in to the Twitch chat on Wednesday and let us know what you are working on for the Game Jam! If you’re not familiar with the process of uploading your Storypath Nexus project, Awkward GM Corbin has put together this explainer video to help you on your way:

And also this note from Travis:

Last week Aegis Studios released the Scarred Lands Creature Collection 1 (SWADE) in advance PDF at DriveThruRPG! Since release, this book has remained in the number 1 slot for hottest selling Savage Worlds books at DriveThruRPG and is nearly at Copper Best Seller status! Collecting all monsters and NPCs from the Spiragos Trilogy and the 2025 Creature Profiles in one volume, this bestiary has over 140 entries ready to drop into your Savage Worlds game. Whether you are playing in the Scarred Lands setting or not, this is a great expansion for Savage Worlds fans!

Remember: anyone who picks up the advance PDF prior to the POD release will receive a discount POD coupon when the POD version is released! In case you missed the Scarred Lands Player’s Guide (SWADE) Kickstarter, you may still preorder that book as well!

And then I got this note from Jack Berkenstock from the Bodhana Group:

For those who missed it, Jack from The Bodhana Group was on the Roll2Heal nonprofit Twitch channel Saturday the 28th to discuss several important topics.  We discussed therapy gaming vs. therapeutic gaming, safety tools, and our partnership with Roll2Heal  a non-profit that uses gaming with veterans, first responders and emergency personnel.  We of course also talked about Branch Riders!  Please watch the video (its a long one) at this link: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2734416324

This is also important because Jack will be appearing over the next three weeks as they feature a three episode special about Branch Riders.  April 4th will feature a discussion about Branch Riders, including live creation of characters to prepare for April 11th, when Jack hosts an actual play of the system with members of Roll2Heal.  And if that weren’t enough, on April 18th – Jack will appear to wrap things up as the Roll2Heal squad debriefs the session and offers its thoughts about Branch Riders and their play experience.  Please join us each Saturday listed above on the Roll2Heal Twitch channel at 10PM EST to join us and have some fun.

And just when you think that’s it…ANOTHER note from Jack that could also have come from Travis:

And that’s not all!  Jack will be launching a deep dive series on the Onyx Path Twitch channel starting Tuesday April 7th at 8PM EST!  This series will focus on discussing Branch Riders in depth and how to use the system’s elements to their greatest potential for fun!  How do our game’s unique mechanics lead to faster play?  We’ll tell you.  What if my table wants to tell darker stories? We’ll show you how.  Want to learn more about each realm setting and how to get the most out of them?  We’ll give you more than enough to add to your game.  This special seven week series will not only help get your adventure kitchen cooking, but will also set us up for the actual play of Branch Riders, which will run on the same night, Tuesdays, after our deep dive concludes.

After the Expanding Your Realms series, join our players for realm hopping adventure as the team chases a dangerous renegade Branch Rider who has embarked on his own mysterious mission as they prevent his actions from tearing the Curtain!  Join us for THE CHASE!

Also, thank you to everyone out there who has been spreading the word about Branch Riders!  We have now been deemed a Copper Best Seller!  Keep spreading the word – the Nexus needs more Branch Riders to fight off the Blight.  Eight realms… One Mission!  Silver level – here we come!

I’m buried under all these notes!

But, at the same time as I’m doggedly digging out from under the pile of notes, I’m really glad that we have folks who share how excited they are with their projects, and working with Onyx, and are spreading that excitement via a whole bunch of media!

For another exciting bit of news, I’ve been told that our shipment of Deluxe Exalted Exigents books are in the port in New York, although they still have to move through the port customs authority and then get picked up by truck to get to Studio2. And Studio2 is all ready to roll and pick and pack when they get there (give or take however long it takes to check them into their warehouse) as James has mentioned in Backer Updates!

It’s been a long time coming, and multiple cases of us having to pick ourselves up off the floor after flipping backwards in our chair in shock and surprise at how in-flux things have been, but we never stopped moving forward to the day when Backers have their books and we can add more projects to the “At Press” queue – soon many books will be in the hands of many folks wanting to enjoy:

  1. Mr.Thomas
The book I’m mostly looking forward now is the Scion Jumpstart. I totes understand it isn’t ready yet
But do you think you can ask someome to post a preview of it?

    • The Scion God Jumpstart? That’s in Layout now, so any previews are unlikely now that we’re headed to the PDF. But in general, I don’t ask for specific text previews from the developers – unless we’re in a big campaign. We do have a standing offer to post previews if a dev wants to select a bit and send it up the line to the managing devs for a preview post. Hope that helps!

  2. Do we have any information on back order books and when those will be available? There are several backerkits Im still waiting on the physical copies of.

    • If you’re asking about books we are creating from crowdfunding campaigns, we have had to hold off for about a year or so in order to navigate the threat of tariffs, but we are getting our first reward book out this month, with more to follow. If you mean Add-ons that were part of BackerKit pages, but not the main books themselves, you can check on them on this very site by looking them up on Ian’s monthly project schedule blog post – I think one of them went up either yesterday or today, in fact! Hope that helps!
