Chicago is!
If you remember the original Chicago By Night cover art, this is the same scene – this time illustrated by Adrian Majkrzak – but the point of view is reversed. A nice call-back!
Of course, all this Chicago referencing is because we are currently running a Kickstarter campaign for our new Chicago By Night book for Vampire 5th Edition. So far, we crushed the funding goal in half a day and have blasted through several Stretch Goals.
Sincere thanks to all of you who have backed and made this possible!
We’re very excited about the additional projects being built by the Stretch Goals: first, the Chicago Folio, an in-character artifact book compiling diary entries, transcripts, emails, and other treasures to use in the course of a V5 chronicle, especially useful when utilizing the characters and plots from Chicago by Night. We’ve already added the Camarilla Record section and the Anarchs Accounts section to the Folio via Stretch Goals, so let’s see what else we can add!
Second, we have Let the Streets Run Red, a PDF supplement set in and around the Chicago and Midwest area, incorporating characters absent from V5 Chicago by Night and exploring the activities of Indianapolis, Milwaukee, and the rural Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana areas. The first section, starting in Chicago, is our current Stretch Goal and almost achieved at the time I’m writing this!
If you are interested, you can check it out here:
Like all of our recent KSs, backers are getting sections of the text that will add up to 95% of the full text for the book before this KS is over. So if you are concerned over the writing direction, or that it might get changed before it’s published, here’s your chance to see all the words before they go to editing.
As part of our ongoing outreach to let our community know all about the V5 Chicago By Night Kickstarter, the developer, our own Gentleman Gamer Matthew Dawkins, will be hosting a Q&A to answer your many many questions! In fact, here he is now:
“Matthew here! I’ll be hosting a live Q&A on my YouTube channel focused on Chicago by Night, but in which you can ask me anything (within reason) and I’ll answer (probably)! I’d love for you to join me, and we can all discuss the Chicago project and how it’s doing so far.”
Plus, Dave having worked on so many of our game lines means I can segue right into him knowing all about:

TODAY’S REASON TO CELEBRATE:
Remember, remember, the fifth of November
Gunpowder treason and plot
We see no reason
Why Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot….
I just love V for Vendetta!
Tormented!
Yes it is!
I ask for no details. timing is a touchy subject. BUT, is it likely we will see one more kickstarter before the end of the year or is Chicago more than likely the capper for the year?
Last I heard, they still intended to get the They Came from Beneath the Sea! KS done this year.
Yes, although we are running out of available time and may need to extend They Came From into January to leave space for the holidays. We’re still discussing it.
Yes, please push it into next year. My wallet begs you!
Now I understand why that image seems familiar. That’s a nice Easter egg.
Yes, I agree, and it also suggests that while there’s a link to previous editions, this book and V5 as a whole are coming at this from its own point of view.
Why Tales of Excellent Cats is in Manuscript Approval? The Pugmire and Mau is in-house brands in Onyx Path Publishing, not licensed games, don’t they?
I think that technically it’s a Pugsteady game, so Eddy may have to do approvals if others are writing the book?
Or it’s just part of the process, regardless if it’s an in-house, or out-of-house product.
Your first suggestion is the correct one. Eddy needs to review Realm of Pugmire projects for those he didn’t directly develop.
Yes, because I license it to Onyx Path. 🙂
Onyx Path owns: Scarred Lands, Scion, They Came From Beneath The Sea!, Trinity Continuum.
Onyx Path licenses: World of Darkness (White Wolf), Chronicles of Darkness (White Wolf), Exalted (White Wolf), Dystopia Rising: Evolution (Eschaton), Legendlore (Caliber), Realms of Pugmire (Pugsteady), Cavaliers of Mars (Rose Bailey).
Can we start referring to Dave Brookshaw as DDB? It’s kind of a wrestling rev so Eddy and Matt should love it.
You do what seems right to you. So far, I’ve seen it linked to wrestling, Van Halen, and the diamond in Mage: The Awakening.
It’s more appropriate than Dapper, whatever it means!
I’ll have you know that in the meeting it was ME who made the Diamond Dallas Page reference! They’ve corrupted me with wrestling knowledge! Oh no!
That’s not a corruption, it’s a refinement.
No no, it’s a corruption. Matthew and I have been working very hard at this.
The idea of a Milwaukee by Night in V5 (even as a stretch goal content) makes me chuckle.
… Any chance of a connection to Under A Blood Red Moon as an intro to W5 in the book?
As an intro to W5? No. Which is not saying there couldn’t be veiled references to UBRM in there somewhere.
I’m hoping for a Trinity or Dystopia Rising demos at the OPP booth and V5 demos at the WW booth come PAX Unplugged.
Also, I was trying to find a book that Rich, Eddy, & Dixie were all involved so I can get it signed in but I don’t think I have any. I believe they are all KS books that have not been released yet.
Pugmire and Beckett’s Jyhad Diary?
Thanks, Matthew! I have the PDFs but both those books are on my shopping list. I’ll have to get one or both to get signed. Shame you won’t be there. It seems like I’ve gotten to know you all by listening to the pathcast. Maybe next year.
Yep, sadly no PAX for me! I’ll be at Midwinter instead.
Is there any idea for when the final Monarchies pdf will go live?
First we get the backer rewards shipping, then retail stores and the PDF/PoD versions on DTRPG go live. Not long now!
Was this the same process that happened with original Pugmire? I was confused that products were shipping but the pdf wasn’t updated, but your comment reminds me that this is only the second KS I backed for a regular book that has completed. All my other fulfilled projects were deluxe editions where the pdf dropped well in advance because fancy books take longer
The key thing, as you touch on, is that as we are running KSs to get books into stores, the methodology used for other KSs that had different goals needs to change. And we are still working on developing our best practices for retail destination KSs. Mau is using a tweaked methodology based on Cavaliers, which used a tweaked methodology based on Pugmire.
Oh, okay. Awesome! Good to hear I’m not crazy (… in this regard…) Hope the experiment works out well for everyone.
RichT. Are there be Beast:The Primordial books being planned ?
Right now, I’d say Beast is in the part of the cycle where we’ve published the main projects so folks can play with rich experiences, and we’ll give everyone a chance to get a hold of those. Meanwhile, there are still Beast-focused Dark Eras that will be arriving very soon.
My group keeps asking about the timeframe for when we can order PDF’s of Changeling 2nd, and I keep telling them “the printer is warming up.” Now, i’m not exactly sure what that means, so when I got asked this week why the heck the printer needs so long to warm, i figured I’d ask on here. Is that a pdf that will be available before December, before 2019, or just straight up TBD?
Right now, it’s TBD. We really try to steer away from estimates, although we know everybody wants them. Just keep your eyes on the blog and be aware that traditional printing isn’t like going to Kinkos, but an involved process of proofing first, and then the printing, and then the binding. And then shipping to our fulfillment partners. It’s really a manufacturing process, and like those processes, we have to deal with quality control and drying times and all sorts of press time issues.
Know it’s bit late but how long is backerkit gonna accept pre-orders for Dark Eras 2? trying do some budgeting this month.
The next two months, at least.
AH, thanks!
