Terra Incognita [Mage: The Awakening]

We’ve spoken a lot about Mysteries and Obsessions so far in this blog, and how mages become attracted to, obsessed by, and sometimes killed by the many supernatural aspects of the World of Darkness. Most such things are unique – central Mysteries that individual chronicles revolve around, like the Secret Concord / Prince of 100,000 … Read more

Editing, ho! [Werewolf: The Forsaken]

The big news? Werewolf: The Forsaken 2nd Edition has gone off to editing. I’ve compiled everyone’s final drafts, incorporated playtest feedback, and cross-checked as best one person can that everything lines up. It’s taken a while, not just because of little things like the W20 Book of the Wyrm kickstarter, but also things going on offline. Anyway. That’s all sorted and the book’s hit a blood great milestone.

Hurt Locker: Alpha Outline [World of Darkness]

This more or less speaks for itself, right? I’ve been super busy with the V20 Dark Ages Kickstarter. If you haven’t seen it, you should. It’s hot. I sourced a bunch of ideas. I compiled them, reinterpreted them, and this is the book I think I’ve got brewing. Check it. I’d love thoughts. Sooner than … Read more

Alchemists: Mixologists of Evil [Promethean: The Created]

Look, you want updates while I’m mid-coffee, you take your chances with the post titles. Now, glib titles aside, alchemists are not necessarily evil. Mark Stone proposed, while we were brainstorming Promethean 2nd Edition (then known simply as The Firestorm Chronicle) that we should include mortal alchemists as antagonists. I had to noodle that – I knew … Read more

Sewing Parts Together: Playtests Begin [Promethean: The Created]

I’ve sent out, and received back, NDAs from a few groups who want to lend us their help in making Promethean: The Created 2nd Edition awesome. Honestly, I was thrilled by the response. Promethean has always been, to my thinking, the NWoD game that was amazing in concept but didn’t quite get the play it deserved (much like … Read more

Carthian Merits and Law: The Voice of the People [Vampire: The Requiem]

There’s a difference between vampire revolutionaries who see humans as the proletariat, and vampire revolutionaries who see humans as the means of production. –Greg Stolze Since we got into the grisly magic of the Circle of the Crone last time, I thought this time we’d talk a little about politics. Of course, the Carthians would … Read more

Drawn to the Flame [Mage: The Awakening]

It’s another layover week, which after last week’s vote means it’s Obrimos time! First, a mood-setter. The Obrimos are unusual in our Path refreshes; they’re the least-changed Path with the most-changed Arcana. We’ve used the opportunity of our two-fold Path schemes to promote non-religious Obrimos as valid characters, but despite or possibly because I’m a … Read more

Alchemical Recipes [Promethean: The Created]

So, it was a close vote, but Lineages won out (32 votes for Lineages, 20-some for Refinements, and one inexplicable vote for “alchemical burps”). Promethean 2nd Edition includes seven Lineages: Frankenstein, Galatea, Osiran, Tammuz, Ulgan, Unfleshed, and Extempore. But why, you might ask, is Extempore included out of alphabetical order? Well, because the Extempore aren’t properly … Read more

Sympathy for the Sinister [Mage: The Awakening]

When You’re Evil Mage is well served for antagonists. The game has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to opposition, and many of them are close to my heart. There’s just something satisfying about a good antagonist. So let’s take a look at the bad side of the road. Before we even get to … Read more
